About This File

97991971_AC2P-Banner.thumb.png.4e9cca9386a1e8ba8bde4669f80d9a34.pngThis project is made possible by @Antny, @Kondorito, @Mr. RetroLust, @dssbob and @Orionsangel

*IMPORTANT*: If you want to stay up to date of new packs and updates use the "Follow" button in the upper right corner. Any future updates will not be displayed in the "What's New" section.

The aim of this project is a complete overhaul of the often used cabinet images (Arcade machines, Pinball, and Slots/Casino), including but not limited to:

  • Higher resolution and quality versions of up to 2160 pixels vertically (Ultra HD)!
  • All images have a transparent background!
  • Higher accuracy of different regions and versions of cabinets
  • All color corrected and optimized to get the most out of any image
  • Many many new cabinets, previously missing from collections
  • Reconstructed images, either entirely new photo realistic reconstructions or existing images which had previously missing parts added

The possibilities of this project are endless, it will let frontends and arcade collections look much better as theme creators will be able to use the arcade cabinets category much more efficiently. Creators, Bloggers, Writers, Reviewers etc. will be able to use these images directly in their media and content enriching the community and history. Arcade games databases can be updated. Any creative process you can think of will be made much easier and look better.

Please note that future Mame updates might change names of some roms, you might have to manually change the file name of the image in those particular cases, however when this project is eventually finished it will be uploaded completely to the launchbox game database so renaming them won't be necessary.

So, follow this thread for any new updates!
It will take a while before we finish the entire project but you will be able to download updates along the way :)

An early impression of the project using the FutureState Neon Deluxe theme as an example how we can use these images.

Very cool and great project! I actually use the game title screen shot as my 3d box and the cabinet as my cart image in the Unified theme.  i think there are two naming errors.  Ragnagard/Shin-Oh-Ken rom name is ragnagrd but the cabinet file is listed as ragngard and Tecmo World Soccer '96 rom is twsoc96 but the cabinet file is listed as tws96.

Thanks man for having a sharp eye, Ragnagard filename has been fixed now, tws96 is the right name see: http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=tws96&arcade_only=0&autosearch=1

Let me know when you find any other names that should be fixed

No problem. I think MAME must have changed the rom name for Tecmo Soccer recently.  I have a complete .201 non-merged set and just checked the .202 and it is twsoc96.  I searched a few rom sites and they all had it listed as tws96 just like the link you had.  Here is a screenshot of MAME .202.  Maybe just add a note that depending on someone's romset, they may need to manually rename that image. tecmo.thumb.PNG.ef49adeca158c6067bcb9d2ba91af57d.PNG

Looks great! I just wonder if the theme could do with a re-jig. It looks a bit cluttered with visual overload. The cabs don't always stand out as they are superimposed right over the gameplay video. They would pop more with a static darker background. Maybe some kind of shadow effect behind the cabs would go some way to remedy this?

The big box theme is just an example of what can be done with the cabinet images, it does look better with gameplay footage in the background instead of the theme videos in most cases as the theme videos have a lot of detail already and in some cases a cabinet already. The theme does have a drop shadow generated beneath the cabinets but cant make it more black with the code, but it might not be very visible in the video due to loss of detail.

Ps keep in mind the video is an impression, most cabinets get a higher quality version and color correction has not been done for these mostly, which will let them "pop" more as well.
