Community Theme Creator for BigBox 1.0.8.92

About This File

The Community Theme Creator for BigBox is still in development and should be treated as an Alpha build, however it has enough features in place that would allow you to start building your own Themes.

(Please see Pyramids by @Rincewind)

 

As I have no documentation at this point, please visit my YouTube Channel as I demonstrate some of the various features.

Installation

1. Download .zip file

2. Unblock (right click on the .zip file, select properties and click on Unblock)

3. Unzip where ever you like

4. Go to the unzipped folder and go to folder ".Install these fonts first to allow the demo theme to load correctly in the editor"

5. Install the 2 fonts (these are only needed for the included Theme)

6. Click on the "COMMUNITY Theme Creator for BigBox.exe"

7. Fill out the setup properties (userid / name and location of the BigBox.exe )

 

8. Enjoy!

 

FYI.  If you wish to design a Theme in either 4:3 or 16:9 or any other aspect ratio then simply change your windows desktop settings to the desired resolution and open the editor.

  • Parsing XML files, Platform Name can contain "/" which is an invalid file name, scrubbed so "/" becomes "_" @Rincewind
  • Loading games via Playlist - was looking for "IsAutogenerated" which is not always included in XMLs. @Fry
  • Playlist Names, they now appear as defined in the .XML instead of using the XML file name.
  • All Published TextLists, fontsize was incorrectly calculated and was visibly different from the editor
  • Custom Image Rendering - Platform & Playlist Names are scrubbed (invalid characters replaced with _)
  • Release Date and Last Played Date default to a date format when initially adding the element to a view @Rincewind
  • Playlists with no roms are now visible

Installation

** UNBLOCK the ZIP file before you UNZIP **  (right click on the downloaded zip and selection properties, then click on unblock)

If you have a Theme or Themes you are currently working on, simply drag the content of the Theme Preferences folder from your current build into this new build.

You can also drag the settings.txt from your current build into the COMMUNITY Theme Creator for BigBox folder so you don't have to go through the setup

 

Transferring your existing work to the new version. Simply open both the new and old versions, open the old "My Theme Projects" folder and move the content to the new "My Theme Projects" folder

I have included 1 Platform and 1 Game Custom Image template for you to experiment with.

I waited with great impatience

@y2guruEdit : However, I have a little problem at startup,(a Application exception) it tells me that the format of the input string is incorrect. I filled all the boxes, erased some, changed big box (so hard disk). I do not see too much where it can come. I restarted by erasing the settings but at each problem the theme appears back white, but the window (the log I guess) prevents me from doing anything; thank you in advance for the answer!

When in portrait mode the UI elements box is too skinny to click the add button.  Is there anyway to fix that like dragging the box or somewhere in the code to make it wider.

After I input all the requested informations I get a grey screen. Then windows offers me to close the program because it's not responding.

Things to know that may be the issue:

  • I've installed the fonts
  • I'm using 3 screens setup
  • One screen is ultrawide
  • I only have the Arcade system with some playlists

Love the app so far, but when I try to publish a theme I get the following error. I'm on the newest build 1.0.2.

@y2guru Here you go, it's very much just me playing around so far, but hoping to make a full fledged theme out of it.

I am a little confused on what you sent, its looks like a consolidation of the Theme Design and the Published Theme as it contains files from both, the design folder content should look like this..

I thought it looked a little different than the neon theme. Let me delete what I have and see what happens when I re-create it. I haven't added anything to the root folder, but it may just be me, doing something I shouldn't be.

Stellar work!

I'm having difficulties with nested platform categories, but that may not be a problem with your application in particular, but rather how theming works in BigBox? If I choose a platform category, I get the hourglass cursor, and it just loads infinitely.
An example is:
Genres (Platform Category)
-- Action (Platform Category)
---- Beat'em Up (Playlist)

I’m assuming the infinite loading occurs in the editor, if so, yes ... I have basic filtering  logic in place, nested and playlist selections will result in a code loop,  it’s a known thing and on my to do list to fix

Oh, okay! Yes, it happens in the editor. There are no themes that supports this kind of nesting as far as I know, which is why I was hoping that this editor could be an easy fix for mye particular use case. Anyway, thank you for creating such an easy-to-use program!

Overview of changes made in the past 6 weeks plus changes in the upcoming build 1.0.3.

The video also covers a new feature added in the past week that should assist new Theme creators.

Presets / Assists are a great addition, and the sneak peek to the Animation Editor element is even more fantastic. Can't wait for the that to be a usable feature... Great work as usual and thanks again for putting this together.
