Community Theme Creator for BigBox 1.0.8.95

About This File

The Community Theme Creator for BigBox is still in development and should be treated as an Alpha build, however it has enough features in place that would allow you to start building your own Themes.

(Please see Pyramids by @Rincewind)

 

As I have no documentation at this point, please visit my YouTube Channel as I demonstrate some of the various features.

Installation

1. Download .zip file

2. Unblock (right click on the .zip file, select properties and click on Unblock)

3. Unzip where ever you like

4. Go to the unzipped folder and go to folder ".Install these fonts first to allow the demo theme to load correctly in the editor"

5. Install the 2 fonts (these are only needed for the included Theme)

6. Click on the "COMMUNITY Theme Creator for BigBox.exe"

7. Fill out the setup properties (userid / name and location of the BigBox.exe )

 

8. Enjoy!

 

FYI.  If you wish to design a Theme in either 4:3 or 16:9 or any other aspect ratio then simply change your windows desktop settings to the desired resolution and open the editor.

  • Application startup - 2 folders used to gather fonts, not always 2 on a variety of PC's, added validation. @chrisk11
  • Parsing XML files, Platform Name can contain "/" which is an invalid file name, scrubbed so "/" becomes "_" @Rincewind
  • Loading games via Playlist - was looking for "IsAutogenerated" which is not always included in XMLs. @Fry
  • Playlist Names, they now appear as defined in the .XML instead of using the XML file name.
  • All Published TextLists, fontsize was incorrectly calculated and was visibly different from the editor
  • Custom Image Rendering - Platform & Playlist Names are scrubbed (invalid characters replaced with _)
  • Release Date and Last Played Date default to a date format when initially adding the element to a view @Rincewind
  • Playlists with no roms are now visible

Installation

** UNBLOCK the ZIP file before you UNZIP **  (right click on the downloaded zip and selection properties, then click on unblock)

If you have a Theme or Themes you are currently working on, simply drag the content of the Theme Preferences folder from your current build into this new build.

You can also drag the settings.txt from your current build into the COMMUNITY Theme Creator for BigBox folder so you don't have to go through the setup

 

Transferring your existing work to the new version. Simply open both the new and old versions, open the old "My Theme Projects" folder and move the content to the new "My Theme Projects" folder

I have included 1 Platform and 1 Game Custom Image template for you to experiment with.

The video below will go into the creation, rendering and how to use them with your theme in greater detail.

Also, the theme creator comes with 2 themes, do both of those themes display correctly when you select them?

no, for example on your youtube videos i can seethings animated and using for example clear logos videos in your actual programme, this is my screen before i publish then i have to launch bigbox to see the logos videos etc

the app i installed into another folder so its not in the launchbox main folder

Videos will play via the editor, it looks like you didn’t unblock the .zip file prior to unzipping

@horse(y2guru correct me if I'm wrong) You need to publish your theme to see the final result, you will not have an optimal result and you will not see for sure the modifications you made without it. In any case at home without publishing the theme, I am like you, I see almost nothing of what I have before. I am sure that in a few months we will most certainly have real time previews;)

The only thing you will not have real-time  previews of are the wheels ( graphical ) , if you are not seeing previews like my YouTube videos then there is a problem

I plan to do a livestream this coming Sunday, I’ll show off the new animation features plus some other little tweaks, talk about what’s next then open it up to questions and how to’s plus anything else you may wish to suggest.

for example in a gamelist , if i click on game name , title game details display but no images nor video

I see that both game name and notes are being displayed so you have metadata from launchbox for that particular game, if you were to select that game in bigbox (with a default theme) would you see a video?    By the way what ui element are you using for the video onscreen?   Selected item video or User defined video?

i have meta plus images and video

but for some reason not displayed in editor.

so my videos are not displayed in editor nor game title logos, images etc only text

The wheel won’t display anything in the editor but there’s no reason for the video and box art not to show... very odf

Hmmm humor me and in the editor , go to ssx 2 again, click the video and scroll down thru the properties and click display when  active / selected (radio buttons)  see if the video displays when clicking either option, same for the box front image also

ok will do, in settings my external plugins are empty could this possibly be the cause?

To get the Game Description to scroll make sure you use a low number in the scroll speed, I use "2" that was a mistake I was making thinking the higher the number the fast it would scroll :)

please go to your launchbox file path, for example... D:\LaunchBox\Data and send me the Platforms.xml file (send to me directly, not here) I have a sneaky suspicion that the location of your meta data images, videos etc.. differ to mine and others, which is not your issue, its mine as I need to cater to that, I just want to confirm that's the issue.

not at the moment, I plan to do a livestream this coming sunday, after going thru the newest stuff I will open it up to whomever is on the stream and they can ask questions, make suggestions or ask to see how something is done
