  1. For my scummVM box project, I'm now at the living books, educational games. I've had to create some back covers for the Crazy nick's software picks. all in all I'm making good progress. over 160 boxes are done.. and I'm currently wondering if, when I'm done, if I should take on the list of SVN game titles. I probably will. I'm not going to make a box for each game version. So there will not be 8 different boxes for each version of Monkey Island. I'm assuming most people will just group them under a single title. After scummvm I will do a small box collection for residualVM, I mean 3 or for boxes nothing, I will just have to modify my template . So for all you lurkers on here. now you know. enjoy

  3. Decided to create and post another video to demonstrate a little more of the Theme Editor but focusing on the Video positioning and sizing, I threw in the scroll text positioning for good measure. I have only skimmed the surface on what this editor does so far and it will do much much more in the coming weeks.

  4. Beta 15 is out now with just some minimal changes: Fixed a crash on single-core/single-threaded machines Prepped the changelog and the release notes for the translators @kmoney I looked into the volume control differences between VLC and WMP, and that's unfortunately a pain to solve. It seems like they're the same at 100% volumes but for some reason VLC and WMP behave entirely differently at various volume levels, so I'm not sure if there's even anything I can do about it. Strange, but I guess it's just how they made them. Also, I'm still waiting to hear back on the hopeful fix for freezes loading up the .Next Options screen, and the hopeful fix for the disappearing boxes. If anyone can test and let me know, I'd appreciate it. I'm sending this release over to the translators for translating, so hopefully we can get the official release out in a few days or so.

  5. Archive Cache Manager View File A LaunchBox plugin which caches extracted ROM archives, letting you play games faster. Also allows launching individual files from archives, and loading preferred file type from an archive. Description When a compressed ROM (in zip, 7z, or other compression format) is first extracted, it is stored in the archive cache. The next time it is played, the data is loaded directly from the cache, virtually eliminating wait time. As the cache approaches its maximum size, the least recently played games are deleted from the cache, making room for new games. Features NEW FEATURE - Keep select ROMs cached and ready to play. Games marked 'Keep' won't be automatically cleaned from the cache. Useful for less frequently played games which you still want to load without waiting (party games, favourites, children's games, etc) NEW FEATURE - Select and play individual ROM files from an archive! Useful for GoodMerged sets, or archives with mixed ROMs and cue sheets (MSU). Skip the extraction wait time for recently played games. Configurable cache size and location. Configurable minimum archive size (skip caching small archives). File extension priorities per emulator and platform (cue, bin, iso, etc). Example Usage Why use Archive Cache Manager? Here's some example use cases. Zipped ROMs located on network server or cloud drive, where disk read or network transfer time is slow. ROM library maintained as accurately ripped/dumped collections, where specialised compression formats not an option. Extract and play archives from location other than LaunchBox\ThirdParty\7-Zip\Temp, such as high speed SSD. Playing ripped PS2 games with PCSX2 where the disc image is bin/cue format, avoiding the "CDVD plugin failed to open" error message. Your library contains GoodMerged sets, and you want a quick way to play individual ROMs. Installation Download the latest release from https://forums.launchbox-app.com/files/file/234-archive-cache-manager/ or https://github.com/fraganator/archive-cache-manager/releases Unblock the download if necessary (right-click file -> Properties -> Unblock) Extract this archive to your LaunchBox\Plugins folder, then run LaunchBox / BigBox. Within LaunchBox, ensure the desired emulator has the "Extract ROM archives before running" option checked. Uninstallation Quit LaunchBox / BigBox, then navigate to the LaunchBox\Plugins folder and delete ArchiveCacheManager. Delete the archive cache folder (default is LaunchBox\ArchiveCache). Usage Archive Cache Manager is designed to run transparent to the user. All that is required is the emulator has the "Extract ROM archives before running" option checked. Extraction and cache management is carried out automatically when a game is launched. Selecting and Playing Individual ROMs From an Archive To play an individual ROM from an archive containing multiple ROMs (different regions, hacks, or discs), right-click it and choose "Select ROM In Archive...". A window will popup with a full listing of the archive contents. Select the desired ROM file, then click Play. That ROM will now launch with the configured emulator. Keeping Games Cached Games can be marked 'Keep' so they stay cached and ready to play. To keep a game cached, open the plugin configuration window from the Tools->Archive Cache Manager menu. From there a list of games in the cache is shown. Check the Keep box next to the game, then click OK. Configuration Configuration can be accessed from the Tools->Archive Cache Manager menu. An overview of each of the configuration items is below. Cache Details This section shows a summary of the cache including the Cache Path, Cache Size, and Keep Size. It also displays a list of the items currently in the cache. Cached Items & Keep Each item in the cache has a Keep flag, which when set will prevent the item from being removed from the cache when the cache is full. This is useful for less frequently played games which you still want to load without waiting (party games, favourites, children's games, etc). Items marked Keep are not included in the cache size calculation. The total size of Keep items is listed in the cache details summary. Configure Cache Clicking the Configure Cache... button opens the cache configuration window. Configure Cache - Cache Path This is the path of the cache on disk. The path can be absolute or relative, where relative paths are to the LaunchBox root folder. Default: ArchiveCache If the cache path is set to an invalid location (LaunchBox root for example), an error message will be displayed when clicking OK. If the cache path is set to an existing path that already contains files or folders, a warning will be displayed when clicking OK. Click Yes to proceed, or No to go back and change the path. Configure Cache - Cache Size This is the maximum cache size on disk in megabytes. The oldest played games will be deleted from the cache when it reaches this size. Default: 20,000 MB (20 GB) Configure Cache - Minimum Archive Size This is the minimum size in megabytes of an uncompressed archive to be added to the cache. Archives smaller than this won't be added to the cache. Default: 100 MB Open In Explorer Clicking the Open In Explorer button will open the configured cache path in Windows Explorer. This button is disabled if the cache path does not exist. Refresh Refreshes the cache summary and list of cached items from disk. Delete Clicking on the Delete button will remove the selected items from the cache (including items with the Keep setting). Purge Cache Clicking on the Delete All button will delete everything from the cache (including items with the Keep setting). File Extension Priority This defines the file extension priority for the specified emulator and platform combination. Use the Add / Edit / Delete buttons to manage file extension priorities. File extensions are a comma delimited list, where the highest priority is the first extension, the next highest priority is the second extension, and so on. If the file extension is not found in the archive when a game is loaded, the default LaunchBox priority is used. Note that the extension priority is applied to all archives, even if they are not cached. Default: PCSX2 \ Sony Playstation 2 \ bin, iso Source Code Source available on GitHub, licensed under the LGPL: https://github.com/fraganator/archive-cache-manager Submitter fraganator Submitted 01/03/2017 Category Third-party Apps and Plugins

  9. Hello all, the first 8.4 beta is out. I'm at family camp this week, but I've been working in the mornings. However unfortunately I have zero reception out here so once I head back to camp in a few minutes, so I won't be able to check up on anything until tomorrow morning. If you're skiddish about betas, you might want to hold off on this one just because I won't be available for a day. Anyways, the focus for this beta so far has been to attempt to improve performance with the box images and the caching for .Next. The app will automatically cache images in the background for the active view (the currently displayed games). In addition, there's a small progress bar that shows at the top while images are being cached in the background. If you want to precache all images, just go to All Games, set the image group you want, and wait for the progress bar to complete. It's still a work in progress, and I haven't been able to test anywhere but on this laptop, but I'm hoping it's a significant improvement.

  15. Hey all, it's that time again. Everything is ready to go for the 8.4 release, and all the translation packages have been updated. There is one new form for translating called NextAvailableForm.resx, which prompts users to try .Next instead of the original LaunchBox interface. Other than that, there's probably only stuff in the Strings.resx file that needs updated. Thanks so much as always. I'm hoping to put out the next official release on Thursday, but we can wait until Monday if the extra time will help (especially since there's not a weekend in between now and then). 20. Amazing work, I was getting really bummed out lately due to themes lacking any individual character for each system - right when I was about to reluctantly settle, I spot this thread! Incredible stuff, I'm super grateful for your efforts. Any plans for Wii U, 3DS, NDS and PS2?

  22. I looked around as well and couldn't find anything else either. If you don't mind a repro box then I can try taking the artwork from one of the few boxes there are and recreate the english box front. While there's no images of the actual box back, Broderbund boxes weren't all that complex and there's plenty of game images that I could try to make a mock box back if you don't mind that. Let me know if this is something you want me to mess around with and see what I can come up with, also what image size if anything specific do you want?

  25. Beta 14 is out now with the following: When starting up OG LaunchBox, there is now a window prompting you to use .Next instead, if you wish. There are options for yes and no, as well as options to always start .Next or stop prompting entirely. This should inform anyone who isn't aware of .Next about what's coming. Fixed a few .Next translation issues. Fixed .Next to behave correctly with image groups and selecting All, or when a particular image group is not remembered via platforms, playlists, or platform categories. It should now show the default image group properly instead of just using what the previously selected image group was. Implemented "Colorize Background Fade" in .Next Added an option to revert to OG LaunchBox in the .Next main menu. This is necessary due to the option to "always use .Next" when starting up OG LaunchBox. Hopeful fix for the occasional .Next freezing issue when selecting Options Hopeful fix for the boxes not displaying properly issue in .Next with certain box and window sizes There are still a few one-off issues out there with .Next that I have heard from a few different people, but I believe that the remaining issues are due to driver or MS bugs, though it's hard to confirm. Hopefully we'll get more feedback from people after the official release comes out (which should be very soon, early next week at the latest, but hopefully sooner). Anyways, please let me know how this beta fares and if the above listed issues are indeed fixed for you.

  28. Hello, I am currently working on a Soundtrack Player Plugin. It is a standalone executable on top of the plugin that currently plays mp3 files and uses the graphics from Launchbox Here is a preview: Small Video: SoundTrackPlayer-Alpha.mp4 Video on Youtube Within Bigbox (Only shows up if you have a Soundtrack): Soundtrack PlayerCurrent Features: Dynamic "Listen to Soundtrack" option added per-game basis if the Soundtrack exists. Random Background Selection Background can change every X seconds (User Configurable) or not at all. Description Text (Scrolling) (Scrolling can be disabled) Input from Keyboard and Xbox Controller (Should work with many other input devices) Volume Controls Repeat Options: All / Single It still needs some polishing and bug fixing before I can release it, but wanted to share it already.

  29. No plans yet, though I see now that the feature didn't make the cut after being asked about in the previous LB poll. I'll give it some thought as to what's involved, and what would be the best end user experience. A naive, always show the picker dialog would be the simplest, but for non-merged zips that might get annoying. Maybe a per platform setting to show the picker? As I mentioned before, don't hold your breath!

  30. Just a video showing off my favorite parts of my set up. Features: -Wireless via wii remote multi controller set up if you're in that nostalgia mood -Alternatively one can use the Xbox one controller if you're feeling lazy (except for Wii/Gamecube I am having issues setting up alternative controllers with Dolphin, so in the meantime I have to use either an oem wii remote or gamecube controller.) -Press the center button on any controller (Wii remote, PS2, Xboxone) to load/exit big box, holding center buttons turns off controller without exiting or launching. -Television automatically turns on and tunes into correct HDMI input when launched from controller -A splash screen with a 5 second timer shows up on monitor before bigbox launches to give me the option of loading big box on to computer monitor instead (in case someone is using the TV screen for something else.) -Custom X link Kai semi-transparent interface for simulated LAN play over the internet. -3D printed Gamcube port where a CD drive normally sits in PC (+ wavebirds!) -BIGBOX UI SHORTCUTS! select + right -> Audio and video sent to TV Select + Left-> Audio and video sent to PC Select + Down-> Audio sent to headset Select + Up-> Custom semi-transparent X Link Kai interface pops up. When interface is up Select + Down hides the interface again Select + Triggers or (- and 1 or 2 on wii remote) -> Volume control Controllers in my collection thus far: 2 NES Classics 2 SNES Classics 4 N64 4 Gamecube Wavebirds (wireless gamecube controllers) 4 Wii remotes 2 Wii Classic controllers 2 Sega Genesis 2 PS2 2 Xbox one (would like 4 eventually)

  31. Thanks for the update, glad to hear both LB and ACM are working now. I did suspect a space in the path might be an issue so tested it on my end, but it all seemed to work. I'll try reproduce the exception with Box Sync.

  32. Hi azuravian, Thanks for that info. I added some exception handling for the exception plus some other mitigations. 33. Hi azuravian, thanks for detailed error report and log file. I just have a few questions: Does ACM work after you run into the initial error, without re-installing it? What version of LaunchBox are you using? Does launching a game cause the exception? (try games across different platforms) It's not entirely clear why the exception has occurred, but the fix should be straight forward. I'll update this thread when a new version is ready to test.

  34. Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I meant that now that LB Next is included with official releases (not the beta releases). It's looking good btw, and very fast too.

  35. Now that LaunchBox.Next is out of beta, support has been added to the new release. I've only done some quick testing, so let me know if there any issues
    1 point
  36. Thanks for the heads-up! I was out of the loop with the LB betas, but this .Next version looks nice. The archive manager plugin currently checks the calling program is either LaunchBox or BigBox, so the error you're seeing is expected. It'll be easy enough to add a check for LaunchBox.Next.

  37. @NahuelDS Not a problem, thanks for letting me know A file picker when launching a merged rom set would be useful. I'm not sure if it's beyond the scope of what this plugin is designed for, but technically it can be done. I'll have a think about whether adding to this plugin makes sense, or if it's better handled some other way. Don't hold your breath though!

  38. New version is released which adds emulator + platform file priority. See the release notes for details, but it's just a matter of adding a <Platform> tag after the <Emulator> tag, such as: <FilePriority> <Emulator>Retroarch</Emulator> <Platform>3DO Interactive Multiplayer</Platform> <Extensions>iso</Extensions> </FilePriority> <FilePriority> <Emulator>Retroarch</Emulator> <Platform>NEC TurboGrafx-CD</Platform> <Extensions>cue</Extensions> </FilePriority> Note that the <Platform> tag isn't required. If it's not present, the priority will apply to all platforms for that emulator. Let me know if there are any issues

  41. I've just uploaded a new version which does just what you're asking. If you run into further issues, just let me know.

  42. The plugin acts as a proxy between LaunchBox and 7-Zip, and bypasses the extraction process if the game already exists in the cache. It then creates a hardlink between the cached game and the temp folder, so LaunchBox thinks the game has been extracted to where it asked, and then launches the emulator. After a bit of experimenting, I think I may be able to achieve exactly what you're asking (absolute rompath), without any file system tricks. I'll test a bit more and upload a new version soon (if it works!)
    1 point
  43. Hi Landcross, Thanks for your comments. Your understanding is correct on the plugin usage. Unfortunately exFAT doesn't support directory junctions or hardlinks, In this case the plugin automatically falls back to a regular file copy when the cache or LaunchBox location is on a non-NTFS volume. I'll investigate if there are any options to avoid a copy for exFAT volumes. That was the main reason for adding it
