    Thank you all; I've noted the issues thus far and I'm diving back into development. The next step of course is to add emulator and game-specific settings for the startup screens. I've also noted the couple of issues with playlists due to the number of them with the auto-generated playlists.

    I don't use the summvmlauncher. I use scummvm.exe. scummvm.exe takes command lines as input so in order for you to understand what does what and when, you could pop open a commandbox in the scummvm folder and ask scummvm for help. Scummvm.exe --help it will give you all the commands it knows with a description. scummvm.exe -c will allow you give an alternate ini path. to configure the emulator in launchbox, you should point it to scummvm.exe and as a default commandline you give it the -c .\scummvm.ini , make sure your scummvm.ini is in the scummvm folder. this will make it "portable". in the sense that you have devorced scummvm from your userprofile folder.

    I never knew this was implemented at all. I was going to suggest it because it's a great idea. 🙂 Glad it's going to be re-implemented.

    it is possible to create a generic image for a system if. maybe not the best way or efficient but it works. i created an image named "Default.jpg" and put in the System Name/Images/Fan-Art Backgrounds. My background image priority is set to Fan-art background. I copied the default start up xaml and renamed it to my system (Atari 2600) I changed line 16 where the xaml looks for the game specific background image and replaced it with the full path to the "Default" image i wanted to use. <Image Source="{Binding BackgroundImagePath}" changed to: <Image Source="C:\Users\ed209\Desktop\LaunchBox\Images\Atari 2600\Fanart - Background\Default.jpg" This works, but the unless there is a way to increase the startup screen delay before the eumulator shows, there really isnt enough time to see the actual image (controller layout for example). For the longer loading emulators, not an issue but for something like Atari, the screen is only up for a second. my image was a little transparent, but i think there is something in the xaml to fix that, but havent messed with it enough to figure out. Edit: since you are pointing to a specific image path for the system, i don't see why you couldnt create a folder for Loading Screen images and place your specific static images there. might clean up the image placement. You would still need to create the appropriate system xaml.

    Sadly it looks like we missed re-implementing this when the new interface was being developed, and apparently no one brought it up, so I didn't realize it. I'll add this to my list. Unfortunately it may be a bit yet though as it's not as simple as it should be.

    Yes, I'll look to tackle this at this time. The play game stuff will need restructured somewhat for the plugins anyways, because currently the existing methods won't use the startup screens at all. This has been a major thorn in my side. It seems that Windows will actually change the window focus strategy if you're pressing keys while the game is loading. I still have to come up with a solution for this before the official release. I want to make sure that no matter what you do, you can't start multiple copies or mess up the active window by just spamming keys. The latter is the difficult part. I'll review this and see what I can do to improve it. I am looking forward to seeing it. Especially since I'm learning how much of a challenge all of this is lol.

    Hey @Jason Carr. Is this (getting the currently running game) something you might incorporate in the plugin API when working on the game loading screens? I suppose this is complicated by the fact multiple games can be launched by Alt-tabbing back to BB then hitting play game again, so there is no guarantee of a single running game. From the game details screen, you can actually hit enter rapidly in succession and get the game to load multiple times. Ah, the things we do when testing. Surely someone would've done that in the real world, anyway. On a related note, an ISystemEventPlugin's method gets invoked with a GameStarting event type even when the game load fails, e.g., "the specified rom is not found". I can make a workaround for this but my workaround is a bit klugey and I'm sure does not capture all cases; the logic you use is certainly more comprehensive. Would it be possible to only fire a GameStarting event if it first passes muster in your BB code? P.s. Thanks for working on the load screens by the way; will be nice to have that a core feature of BB. I'll hopefully post my windowed version for download later this week, once I work out a few more wrinkles. I learned a bit more about C#, p/invoke, and low-level input stuff when working on it; was kinda fun.

    Ah, that's good to know. That's how I thought it was working. If you use the popups, it will not reset everything. The only time it should be resetting the themes for all your platforms if you change the theme through the Options menu.

    That’s not what he is talking about, he is saying that with the new playlist generator, there are too many to manage with the existing system. Playlists need a folder structure or an option to hide a playlist from the add to option.

    There is just the option to turn on or off globally currently. Options/Game startup.

    Another thing this affects that I just noticed, is that it now takes forever to load the platform/playlist theme video downloader. With the newest version, the new playlists created for system genres etc. inherit the platform theme video anyway. Maybe these new playlists should only be included with a checkbox or some kind of option.

    I would suggest some button in the toolbar or better - configurable keyboard shortcuts. That would make life a lot easier!

    Try installing a new download on a drive other than C:users. There have been posts in the past of this working. Do not copy or move the install you have. Download a fresh one. You said you were going to try it on another pc. Did you try that yet? That is what the developer, the mod team and members are trying, however you seem to keep offering up resistance as you are too firm in believing it is Launchbox that needs to be fixed. Troubleshooting has to be done to solve. If one thing does not work you try another. If you say you think an install stopped without warning something probably corrupted. Can you help us help you solve this or not? We really want you to use it as well?

    FYI, it doesn't reset the associations each time I change the main theme through the pop-up menu. So I'm not sure what caused them to reset before, since that's the only method I use. It would be nice to know exactly when this happens so I can try to avoid it in the future. : ) Also, that would be great if Retro's theme could use only one, looking forward to it!

    hey @Jason Carr can you make the playlist option under "right click --> add to playlist" a bit more useful? maybe building a folder structure within the playlist folder per system where the playlist is located? else the manuell adding to a playlist is not really human anymore 😉

    Uploaded version 1.0.2. Change log: Increased the size of the images and also added some more CD based systems to get the spinning disc on there startup screens. Added CD based systems. Increased image sizes.

    The emulator needs to be in exclusive fullscreen mode for the moment, and looking at your Animal Crossing window i see the Dolphin menu bar at the top of the screen, so it is not in exclusive fullscreen mode. This is why you get a black screen. Per Jasons first post in this thread. "The startup screens currently do not work properly with emulators or games that do not use fullscreen exclusive mode (such as Project64). For most of these emulators, the startup screen overlaps the emulator and never shows the game. Pressing Escape should close the emulator and the startup screen to get out of this state. Fixes are coming in the next beta."

    If there was an option to turn on that once the loading was finished it would wait for the player to press A for example that would allow one to have a glance at the controls first. I would also like to have some basic game info on the loading screen if possible. Like extracts from the manual, controls etc. Not sure how feasable that is though with the emulator booting in the background and stuff. If not possible then its not a biggie since it will hopefully be on the pause screen, just one of those "would be nice" things

    This is nothing new, the ram usage can vary quite a lot but 1 gig is not something that is out of the ordinary since it caches all of the images and playlist information. Ram nowadays is cheap, most systems have at minimum 8 gigs of ram and 16 is quickly becoming the norm while 32 gigs is not unheard of so 1 gig in the grand scheme of things is very little. Web browsers with a few tabs open will quickly eat up the same amount of ram depending on the sites you have open.

    The initial startup screens are looking great and have not really had any issues as of yet. I was looking through the xaml code a bit to see if I could change the amount of time the startup screen stays on screen before disappearing as it goes away so fast on my system. I am sure that feature is coming though🙂

    Make sure you actually have fanart for the games you are testing, and also that you dont have background fade set to 100%.

    Just giving an update on the MUGEN stuff, and turns out it was a Fullscreen issue after all. So for anyone trying MUGEN, you'll be fine as long as you have it all start in Fullscreen. Nothing I can figure out as to why it takes forever to load up on the first try though other than these games can be pretty large and have so many files to gather? I'm certainly no Programmer to really tell it down to the finest detailed info on how all that can be fixed though

    Turns out I was wrong about Dolphin, it is working well. The two emulators that don't work for me are PCSX2 (as someone previously noted) and Xenia.

    This is already looking like its gonna beat RL. i love that it just uses fan-art for a game something the database already has a good chunk of instead of having to create folders for each game and having to put the fanart in and renaming it. pretty sure this has been mentioned and answered but other then fade out. The only thing missing is universal platform specific images for games out anything. And it doesn't seem to randomize fan-art when a game has more then 1 image.. But seriously very impressive first beta and the spinning disc is a nice touch 😍. and i just realized my 2 things was on the upcoming list 👍

    Dolphin is working as expected for me here, so yes i would take a look at your settings in Dolphin.

    Great work Jason, very cool addition. This works perfectly with RPCS3, it's actually a big improvement because the startup screen hides the emulator startup/loading very well. For some reason Dolphin is just putting up a black screen for me, and I thought I was using exclusive fullscreen. Either way, well done.

    I'm not an expert on Sega systems but I understand a lot of the Mega/Sega CD games were also release as Megadrive/Genesis, however the CD versions had small updates, eg better audio or extra levels, but in most cases they were pretty much the same game. For example Streets of Rage only had updated audio. For most console systems it seems to be the convention to define the platform based on the media used CD/Cartridge, etc, however for Computer Systems the convention is based on the computer model not the media. (Amiga is an exception here) For example the MS-DOS game The Secret of Monkey Island had a Floppy disk release with MIDI audio and a CD release with CD Audio, but in this case we classify this a 1 game on 1 platform with 2 versions. For the Sega example it is 2 games on 2 platforms. I suspect there is no real clear definition for how do define a platform/system, it's just the convention that has evolved until now.

    I apologise for not including Aorin in the description, i was meant to but i was tired last night and totally forgot before going off, but i have updated my description to include him. Also I did clean up his images a little and i created a good few of these as his was not a full set of wheel logos.
