    Version 1.0.2

Hi all, This is my collection of MS-DOS 3D big boxes I created for my eXoDOS set. It’s a mix of both US and European boxes, basically everything I could find. Enjoy!

    Version 4.0.0

This zip file contains clear images of as many platforms in the database as I could find, with the ones I couldn't find high quality, transparent ones for listed in a text file. Edit: Forgot to mention, you're free to DM me (On Discord or the forums) if you have any questions about this. (Name on Discord: SonicFan53 (Speedrunner)#4785)

Hi all, I wanted to share some news about LaunchBox on Android; I have some good news and some bad news, so I'll start with the bad news. Unfortunately, we will be stopping development on Android for the time being. Android has not at all been good to us, and here are just a few reasons why: Our income on Android has only been around 5% of our total income, with the rest of our income coming from LaunchBox Premium on the desktop. With Google taking 30% of that, we only stand to make $3.50 per copy sold. Though the income is low, our development effort requirements for Android are about the same as for the Windows applications. It doesn't really make sense for us to be spending half of our development time on the project, while only making a 5% return. We've been massively disappointed in the software restrictions on Android. We wanted to be able to run import processes in the background, but that turned out to be impossible due to over-zealous battery-saving restrictions. We wanted to be able to easily allow users to add their own custom emulators, but it turned out to not be easy at all due to Android's poor design for launching other applications. Those are just a couple examples of the restrictions that we're constantly slamming into on Android. Android is *not* an open platform. In fact, Windows is *far* more open than Android. The Google Play Store is really the only viable way to release apps on Android, and red tape is everywhere. The Amazon App Store is also available of course, but both stores have similar issues, and no app can flourish on Android without being in the stores. We have so much more flexibility on the desktop, and for that reason we would much prefer to focus on it. There are major concerns regarding the future of emulation on Android at all. Google has begun severely restricting the ability to share files between applications for security reasons, and it’s already affecting users who are running Android 11. They’ve been pushing for these changes for quite a while now, but they’re a poor solution and they wreak havoc on emulation, because they disallow sending ROM files from a frontend to an emulator, amongst other things. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back for us. All that said, we will be stopping development on Android for the time being and focusing our efforts 100% back to the desktop applications. We actually had some really cool features in the works, including wheel and CoverFlow views, but since we’re not even sure if frontends will work at all with future versions of Android, we’ve decided to set it all aside for now. We will be taking LaunchBox for Android off of the Play Store here shortly, as we don’t want to mislead users. It is possible that we could come back to Android at some point, but this is our plan for the time being. Now for the good news: LaunchBox Premium and Big Box on the desktop are doing better than ever, and we are super excited about recent and future developments. We can’t wait to get the new MAME community high scores features out next week, as they’ve been super fun even just while in the betas. We also have some amazing ideas that we can’t wait to jump on. Lastly, if you’re dead-set on Android for emulation, there is a new frontend out that looks very good called RESET Collection. We can’t say if and how they’ll get around Android’s upcoming security restrictions, but we do wish them all the best. Thanks to everyone for your support with all of our projects, and we do apologize for having to disappoint Android users here. At this point, we strongly feel that we are best supporting this community by focusing on the desktop, so that is what we will do going forward.

@Jason Carr I'm back but right now I'm working on a package surely older than the last one below, so I would like to know if my new package could be integrated, so then I can download and continue to work on the most recent one. I think this should be the right procedure, shouldn't it? Please let me know if I'm wrong on my side. Thank you for your help. Stay safe everyone! Language-it-IT.zip

Feature complete and working well. Next tool I'm going to work on: Full download maker. Goes like this: 1. Pick platform from a pre-defined list 2. Select "Auto List with options" - the new tool will build a game list for you with basic options or "Filter from manual list" - Paste a list from the filter tool in this thread or from clrmamepro "missing" or any kind of game list with or without regions - title only or full filename 3. Set download source option to AUTOMATIC or MANUAL (Paste a list of one or more download pages - it doesn't matter if it's 20 or 30 or 500) 4. press GO. The tool will spit back full HTML download links for every title it could find matching your list or matching the automatic list it generated using your preference (like all English titles for this region and that region). Toss that HTML file into a batch downloading app and presto, all the games are downloaded. The beauty here is that for every list, the download could be coming from any number of sources - it doesn't matter and it means you can grab as few or as many regions as you want - the filename formats at the different download sites can also be completely different - it simply doesn't matter, you'll still get all the titles you selected.

DCTF: Disc Collection Title Filter I've made a web-based tool to, among other things, help make 1G1R sets for any disc-based (redump) platform and it needs some final testing before I give it a wider audience. It should work on any current browser on any computer/OS. Tested with Chrome, Safari and Firefox on MacOS, Windows and iPhone (use it on a computer). Please let me know if you can give it a look. Bonus if you have a Redump account. https://salumba.com/romlist The tool can help make bulk download lists that can be imported into download managers, or download single titles. It can also make batch command files that can be used at a command prompt to manipulate your current set of titles - like to clean a huge mess that might be left after downloading every game from every region for a platform. Title selection goes through a de-duplification and priority system which looks at the base title, regions, version #'s, edition type and languages before finally applying a manually-created clone filter with North American or European preference (or it can be disabled). The result of the final list is that every single title will be displayed restricted by your filtering choices. Want only US titles? Want titles from any region as long as they support English? Want to prioritize the different macro-regions when selecting titles? Want only US and European but no Japan/Asia regardless of language? Want only titles released in North America that also feature French language? Want titles from anywhere in the world that have both English and German? All of this and much more can be done. In addition to pulling only the titles matching your settings, this tool will construct appropriate filenames to match the No-Intro and Redump standards. You can add any file extension you want to the displayed filename to match the downloads available to you - for example you might need files labeled ".zip" for one platform/site and ".rar" or ".7z" elsewhere. Quick overview: Pre-Filter & Restrict the Source Data: The tool builds a master list of titles according to the options you set Basic setting (mandatory) System/ Platform - supports Nintendo GameCube, Wii, Wii-U, Sony PSX/1-PS4 & PSP, XBOX, XB360, XBOne, Sega CD, Saturn & Dreamcast, PC, etc. Release Category (optional) - All Categories, Games, Applications, Educational, etc. Region (optional) - All Regions, Americas, Europe, ASIA, USA, Canada, Japan, Germany and more. Language (optional) - All Languages, English, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese Hide selected "Edition" types: Demos, Previews, Beta or Unlicensed (tool starts with defaults pre-selected) Final filtering Options: Language - huge list - you can set the data source to All or a different language if you want to force 2 languages on every title Regional priority of 3 top-level (macro) regions covering all releases allowing to block one of the three Clone lists to remove duplicates that have different titles from different regions (pick North American or European preference) Exclude any number of keywords or phrases you specify (example: you don't want to list anything that contains "tetris") Only include keywords of phrases you specify (example: you want to only list "Harry Potter" titles) Keywords can be match as whole words/phrases or as substring (example: "bat" won't match "Batman" for Whole Word but will for Substring) Import/upload your own file list (dir /b to a text file in Windows to a or cut-and-paste to a text file from Finder in MacOS) to exclude from results Import/upload your own "Have" title list made with ClrMamePro to exclude from the results Uploaded file should contain filenames in No-Intro/Redump format with or without any file extension Uploaded file is temporarily saved to the server with unique encrypted filename, overwritten when you process with new options and deleted every 10 minutes De-Duplification: Based on title matching Based on clone list (built-in and platform automatically selected) Versioning (higher versions have preference) Editions (Originals have preference) Regions (multiple region hierarchies automatically selected by your macro region priority setting) Languages (always contains the languages you selected, titles with fewer languages have higher priority) File naming: No-Intro standard "The" properly moved after base title Region inserted into the correct place Disc#'s correctly placed Languages only listed when more than 1 and in the preferred order Version # is optional - always omitted when "v1.0" - also supports "Rev #" style File extension is optional and can be set by you Custom formatting: Specify any text to include before filenames • URL text to make download links: "http://somesite.com/files/" - links can be copied/imported to download managers like JDownloader • Shell/command text for batch files: "mv " (for example to move the files in a *unix shell) Specify any text to include after filenames • Shell/command path/arguments: " /volumes/somedrive/files_to_keep/" (used with a move this would move all the files to this folder) Final (personal) lists also temporarily saved on the server so that you can download them directly instead of copy-paste Saved with unique & encrypted names so multiple people's lists will never interfere with each other & never be cached HTML list link can be copied with "copy link" and that can be pasted directly into JDownloader or other download manager Link files automatically deleted within about 10 minutes Screenshot:

    Version 2.1.1

Ok, here is version 2 of my Retro Console Theme. This is a MASSIVE overhaul and Includes ANIMATIONS. Thanks to @y2guru and his unending support and development of the 'Community Theme Creator', which now offers an animation tool, I was able to completely rebuild this theme and make it the way I originally intended. Thank You as always my man! * Language issues have been fixed. Should work now! 5-1-2020 The original theme without animations can be found here: Retro Console Version 1 Pretty much every single view has been redone with at least more flare and details, but some of them are totally re-imagined. I have also added several new views and many more platform specific views. All with animations, subtle but informative (hopefully). One of the game views that has a smaller monitor window on the right side of the screen now plays a video in a loop of the matching consoles original startup or boot screen. Not all are included as I have not been able to find them on YouTube. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on where to look for more, would be very helpful! NEW: Playmode Icons - All custom and added all over the theme. NEW: I made a new view that is intended for use with newer consoles like PS3 and XBOX360. Looks good but does not require as much artwork since there is not much available yet. NEW: New version available, "Retro Console Theme Anim V2-center videos.zip". This version is designed to let users select a platform video set other than the Nostalgia set that I have been using. It is much better for center aligned videos. ALSO NEW are several controller button packs that can be swapped out to match your setup. These include 4 buttons each and are color coded throughout the theme: GREEN = Select RED = Back Blue = Search Yellow = Game info screen To use these you should just download the pack you want and drop it in the following folder: ?\LaunchBox\Themes\Retro Console Theme Anim V2\Media\buttons\. Make sure to overwrite the existing ones. controller buttons - arcade.zip: This is a set of generic arcade buttons that can be used for any setup. Just colored and round. controller buttons - numbered.zip: This is a set of numbered controller buttons (1 - 4) for controllers that have numbered buttons. controller buttons - ps3.zip: This is a set of PlayStation controller buttons controller buttons - xbox.zip: This is a set of Microsoft XBOX controller buttons I will gladly take any requests for additional controller buttons as long as they don't require changing the theme. (max of 4 buttons in a pack) ALSO: @Wanderer189 has made a huge contribution to this theme in the form of several downloadable add-on packs full of clear logos for each platform. These include literally thousands of logos made for each Genre, Playmode, ETC. This is an amazing thing and I thank you for your hard work Wanderer. You are awesome. If you would like to get these logos for your setup they can be found here: What is this theme: This is a video snap based BigBox theme. Heavily designed around the use and display of video snaps. This theme has over a hundred views including one that offers a different look for each platform including handhelds. There is a large amount of custom graphics and logos and images and icons etc. Hence the large file size. Use the startup and pause themes to complete the seamless setup. (also included here) All icons including stars for 'consumer ratings' and 'ESRB rating' and the new 'playmode icons' are custom and included in the theme file. Use them all you want. I am using the nostalgia platform videos and these are perfect for this theme. I may make my own someday but for now these are Great. @Wanderer189 is currently making videos for every genre and playmode. (you are awesome buddy, thank you so much for all your hard work and contributions to this and other themes) Available Downloads: Retro Console Theme Anim V2.zip - This is the entire theme including platform and platform device logos as well as all icons so you don't have to download them individually. This does not include the startup video, startup or pause themes, collection logos, etc. Retro Console Theme Anim V2-center videos.zip - This an alternate version of the theme. This version is designed to let users select a platform video set other than the Nostalgia set that I have been using. It is much better for center aligned platform videos. controller buttons - arcade.zip - Arcade panel based controller buttons controller buttons - numbered.zip - Number based controller buttons controller buttons - ps3.zip - PlayStation based controller buttons controller buttons - xbox.zip - XBOX based controller buttons Retro-Console-Pause.zip - The pause theme I made also to match this theme. (screens below) Retro-Console-Startup.zip - The startup and shutdown theme I made to match with this theme. (screens below) Platform Clear Logos.zip - Included in the theme download but also here in case you just want them alone. These were made specifically for this theme. Platform Device Logos.zip - Also made for this theme for the platform view that uses device images. Collection Device Logos.zip - Made to match this theme for the platform view that uses device images for each collection I use. I can make more upon request. Collection Logos.zip - Same as the platform logos. Made to match so they can be used in this theme. Platform Categories.zip - A bunch of category logos also made to match this theme. Startup Video.zip - A startup video I made just to add to the overall completeness of the theme. Not at all necessary but here if you want it. Retro Console Sound Pack.zip - Again not required but here if you want it. This is what i use in the video below. Just unzip it to your launchbox sounds folder and then select it in BigBox. Platform Original Boot Videos.zip - This is a pack of just the new startuo videos for each console or platform I could find. (included in theme so no need to download unless you want just these) Recommendations: Set your Image priorities in Launchbox as follows - Cart Front ( add disc images to the list - this is used in many views in this theme) Set your startup and shutdown time limits in launchbox settings. (mine are: startup=5 sec and shutdown=3.5 sec) I designed this around the Nostalgia Platform Videos. You can use anything but those will fit and line up best. This theme assumes an xbox controller setup: A=Select, B=Back, X=Search, Y=Game Details and Select Button=Change View (not required) I also set the left bumper to platforms and right bumper to platform categories. (not required but helpful) Get as many Banner, Steam Banner and Marquee images as you can. This theme offers a unique view for all arcade cabinet based games and will use those images. There is also a custom view for systems like Windows that also use them. Future Plans: Create a new view that uses the original loading video from each console. (started on 1-3-2020) DONE Complete the white silhouette console and controller images that are used in the startup theme. DONE Add animations to the theme ( @y2guru is working on this ability for his theme creator as we speak and I will update once it is ready) DONE Make platform videos to match this theme (maybe) - In the works How to Install: Extract Retro Console Theme.zip to your launchbox themes folder. This includes all the platform and device logos you need and will automatically use them. ( In order to use other logos just delete the ones in this theme folder) You can also use the startup and pause themes to add more of a consistent flow. Drop the startup video (if you want it) in the launchbox videos root folder. This theme currently has over 80 different platforms and includes the matching device logos, collection logos, category logos and more but some of these have to be added manually through launchbox (sorry). I can not figure out how to make them automatic. Startup Video: Theme Video: Screenshot System View: Screenshots of each Logo Type: Screenshots - Startup and Shutdown and Pause Theme: Screenshots - Random and Extra Stuff: Screenshots - Random Icons and Controllers Made for This Theme:

    Version 3.11.3b4

Use this plugin to filter and import MAME Software Lists into LaunchBox. Features:- Choose to import clones as Additional Apps, separately or not at all - Skip Prototypes (filter option) - Skip Non Supported games (filter option) - Import the selected (filtered) Console/Computer games into LaunchBox - Adds the appropriate command to each imported games' Command Line (ex. a2600 -cart) - Copy the filtered selection of roms to a separate folder (optional) (After copying files, they will automatically be imported) - If a newly imported game is tagged as not supported by MAME, it will be marked as "Broken". Will also check existing games in the Platform being imported to (in case MAME updated its' status) *New v3.0 - New Audit Feature. Compare your existing softlist Platform against the MAME hash.xml. Will cross check Title and Rom names. - Select the respective hash.xml and Platform - Click Audit (last page) - Any differences along with a brief description will be shown. - Option to select files (if any) and have them removed from your LaunchBox Platform. - Will check main Titles as well as Additional Apps (if you imported them that way). This does NOT check rom integrity. That's between you and Clrmamepro (or related utility). What's needed: - (2) dll files included in the zip file Starting with v2.0, only need the (1) dll file included in the zip. - MAME Software List hash files (located in the "hash" sub folder of your Mame's main folder) - MAME Software List roms* and BIOS files (only if you want to actually play them) *The rom set needs to be either a Split set or a Non-Merged set for a full import - If you plan to not import clones, any type set will work. What it won't do: - Filter/Sort by Region (it's a MAME hash file limitation) - Determine if/what BIOS files are needed - Import Metadata and Media (just use LaunchBoxs' built-in Tool) How to: - Copy the "ImportMameSoftwareLists" folder from the zip file to your ..\LaunchBox\Plugins folder. - Navigate to that folder and unblock the 2 dll files. (Right click, Properties, and click Unblock) *New in v1.31 - Start LaunchBox. Click on "Tools" and select "Import MAME Software Lists". Note: - The "Destination Folder" is required even if you don't plan to copy the files. It's needed to set up the Application Folder for the games when Importing. See what's new in Change Log. * MESS xml * To see MAME's Overall and Emulation status [Preliminary/Good/Imperfect]in the Import Mame Software Lists plugin, you will need to have the MESS xml file that matches your version of MAME. messxxx.xml (where 'xxx' is the MAME version. i.e. mess215.xml) This file needs to be located in the same folder as the plugin (..\LaunchBox\Plugins\ImportMameSoftwareLists\) and can be download from: http://www.progettosnaps.net/mess/ These files are [relatively] large (24MB+) and will slow down the screen updates when selecting different consoles/computers. Use "Shrink_MESSxml.exe" to reduce the mess xml file size to a little over 1MB to eliminate slow screen updates. (April-2020 V2.0 is available. Reduces file size even more.) After 1st making a backup, it then removes unneeded data from the xml file. Place only the one 'shrunken' xml file in the plugin folder. ..\LaunchBox\Plugins\ImportMameSoftwareLists\mess215.xml (a 'shrunken' mess215.xml is included with v1.30) The Import Mame Software Lists plugin will search for "mess*.xml". So as you update, just replace the old xml file (mess215.xml) with the new one (mess216.xml). ONLY HAVE ONE MESS XML FILE IN THE PLUGIN FOLDER AT A TIME! v1.32 includes mess219.xml (shrunken, of course) Other Notes: (things I've learned) - Software List folder/file locations: - *Associated Platform Command line parameters - MAME and CDROMS

is their any plans to add other consoles like Microsoft Xbox, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 ect?
  14. 1 point
These are not actually "workarounds" Just the way it should usually be done. You have a strange format that i havent seen before is all. Did you copy the .bin out of the zip and link to that?
  15. 1 point
There is hope, as he did mention that the game launches fine in retroarch... so presumably the .bin alone will work when passed on to retroarch from LB
  16. 1 point
Normally though a game will have a .cue and a .bin, so fingers crossed for you.
  17. 1 point
  18. 1 point
Not at all, it has no logic to pick a specified file out of a zip. So thats the issue.
  19. 1 point
hmm, no cue file which is odd, but I wonder now if the html file might be causing issues. I'm not sure how smart launchbox is when it comes to unzipping and launching games. If there are multiple files in the zip I'm not sure how it selects which one to try and pass on to the emulator. I would suggest either unzipping it and linking the LB entry to the unzipped .bin file, or perhaps just removing the html from the zip and see if that works (it is 100% not needed for the rom to work, it's just a reference as to where you got the rom from).
  20. 1 point
If you're running windows 10, you can just click on the zip file from within explorer, and it should open for you to see what's inside of it. Or you can download a 3rd party tool like zip (https://www.7-zip.org/) which will allow you to open/compress/decompress files as needed.
  21. 1 point
If so thats the issue, but easily fixed.
  22. 1 point
OK that is zipped, whats inside it? Is it like @CDBlue suspects and a multi file, ie a .cue and one or many .bin files?

Can you post a screenshot of your launcher tab for that game? I'm curious as to what you have LB trying to launch. Many Sony Playstation games are muli-file roms like bin/cue. For those to launch correctly you want to actually import the .cue file, and not the .bin file. So, I'm curious if you're just trying to launch the wrong file from LB and that's why it's not working.
  31. 1 point
I do it straight. No problem. Took my translated Beta 7 files and replaced in Beta 13 files and continued. Beta 15 is complete already. Claudio

Yes, my understanding at least is that Google Play will continue to allow you to download and use the app if you've previously purchased it.

    Version 1.0.0

The new m3u auto generator for Launchbox is a great tool, but it also got me wondering if I couldn't create m3u files for every one of my Sony Playstation titles (including single disk games) and would that work in Retroarch? Something just appeals to me about the uniform file extension on import in Launchbox, and of course, if I wanted to launch games outside of the Launchbox environment I'd need some static m3us. I also wanted to have m3us with relative paths to the cue files, for simplicity sake. So I asked on Stack Overflow and, not long after, some genuis had posted a working batch script. I figured I'd share it. I also tested whether or not single cue m3us would work in Retroarch, and it turns out they do. Important: Your games directory should look like this: Main Directory/[Game Name]/[whatever name].cue e.g Sony Playstation/Chrono Cross/disk 1.cue, disk 2.cue The bat file should be run from the main directory The bat file will name the m3u after the directory the cue files are in and place it in that same directory The bat file will create m3us in every subdirectory which holds at least 1 cue file (it doesn't single out multidisk games as it is now, so be aware of that) The bat file should work with any system provided it has the above directory set up and utilizes cue files The m3us list relative paths to the cue files, not absolute paths. So continuing the above example, I ran the file in my "Sony Playstation" directory, and within the "Chrono Cross" directory an m3u file was generated and listed relative paths to all the cue files in that directory and was automatically named "Chrono Cross.m3u" (after the folder name, not the cue file(s) names or anything else in the folder). Lastly, the Stock Overflow user wrote a batch script for both NTFS and FAT hard drives. Apparently the code is different for each. I personally have not tested the FAT version as my drive is NTFS. If anyone wants to check the code, the user also left a thorough explanation that is absolutely unreadable to me. See here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/60049048/need-a-batch-file-to-create-and-name-m3us-in-subdirectories Hope it helps!

@RevJoe98More than likely, you have not set the core in the emulator window for Retroarch. Check here under Tools \ Manage Emulators and verify a core is selected:

@BluSonik The clear logos that Retrohumanoid has in the download section are slightly different than those in the video But for quick and dirty, that is what used. I assumed simple black background since that is what the videos have as well. Can colorize the background but assumed black will work before mess with them.

Why are you using a commandline for that game? As long as you added Playstation as a associated platform for Retroarch in Tools/manage emulators/retoarch and specified the correct core you dont need a commandline for individual games. Also that command is wrong anyway so wont work, remove it.

Thank you so much for this amazing update @Zombeaver. Just one question: How can I integrate the offline Magazines module?

Media can be the title or the ROM name. My entire MAME media set is the ROM name as well as my Pinball media. I have never had any issues with it picking up the media properly. However, like Normchomsky noted, if you mess at all with title in edit dialog window it will update the media to LB title format (i.e., title with sequence number). Like C-Beats noted, you cannot stop this behavior currently, although it has come up as a request (albeit a low polled/requested one). Admittedly, it is mostly with MAME where this come up with monthly media update packs in rom naming format. With Pinball, the LB media DB isn't really setup for Pinball media, so again an edge case where media is typically provided outside LB in table/ROM format naming. Not really the case for most other use cases.

This is a reboot of my Nosh On This theme with new views, improved performance and a ton of platform category, platform and playlist images. Platform and game background videos are force enabled in the theme settings but you can change that if you like. There is more work I would like to do to the game views and that will be hopefully coming soon. Quick and dirty video of what you can expect below. You can either download the entire package which is currently 2.5gb or the no images zip that just contains the theme and download the clear logo, banner and device images separately from the links below. Total Game Count now works in all Languages Updated the plugin Now on the new version of @NJDave71's Plugin (v4), You may need to Unblock the plugin. Credit to @NJDave71 for his plugin Wow finally ready to release!! First off I have to mention that this is my first attempt to design a theme and secondly thank you to @viking as it was the base for the theme, and @criticalcid for all the help when I got stuck Please install the font supplied in the folder before you start. This theme has been designed around these platform clear logos and I recommend installing them to get the intended look - simply download them and add them in the ...\ LaunchBox \ Themes \ <Theme name> \ Images \ Platforms \ Clear Logo. Remember to make sure the files are named the same as your platform name. I also recommend using these platform images. - simply download them and add them in the ...\ LaunchBox \ Themes \ <Theme name> \ Images \ Platforms \ Banner. Remember to make sure the files are named the same as your platform name.
