Hey all, the first 11.9 beta is out now with the following: New Feature: LaunchBox can now easily import your Xbox and Microsoft Store games library; both installed and uninstalled games are supported and can be filtered in the wizard, though only games that have been started at least once can be imported (limitation of the Microsoft API) New Feature: LaunchBox can now easily import your Amazon/Twitch games library; both installed and uninstalled games are supported and can be filtered in the wizard Improvement: Instead of only being able to type the first letter of a game to jump to that game in LaunchBox, you can now type the beginning of a game's title (multiple characters) and LaunchBox will jump to that game, assuming that the games list is selected Improvement: All import processes have been overhauled with improved user interfaces Improvement: The Steam import process will now detect and import "Profile Features Limited" games from Steam Improvement: When changing a platform's name, any emulators associated with that platform will now follow along with the new platform name in the associated platforms list Fixed: Custom themes that use platform-specific XAML files will now work properly with platforms that have invalid path characters in the platform names (such as Dragon 32/64). For theme developers, use an underscore to replace any invalid characters in the file names. Fixed: The Cleanup Media tool was not always working correctly with file names that have special characters in them Fixed: Bulk editing the emulator field on games was not allowing you to clear the field Fixed: Resting your mouse on a badge image in LaunchBox was getting in the way of scrolling with the mouse wheel in some cases Fixed: Custom fields with semi-colons in them (that represent multiple values) are now treated as separate values for Arrange By Let us know how testing goes.

I started out only making 2D boxes for this system, because I always felt the Atari 2600 3D box art set was up to par. But later I did notice that a lot of the spines were inaccurate. This set fixes that. I tried to be accurate and thorough as possible. All the major releases are included, as well as unlicensed, prototypes, European exclusives and dozens of alternates. I would love to add these to the gamesdb but that is so daunting. I wish I had access to the gamesdb and clean it all up in like a day. The entire database. Anyway, I did include templates for those that want to make their own boxes or improve the ones that are in this collection. Enoy!

It was time for a new thread since a new version was out. And since the last one got locked due to ridiculousness, here is a new thread for the current version. For those with eXoDOS v5, an update is due out this month. Selecting the eXoDOS game (first in the list), right clicking, and choosing to run the updater will auto reach out and pull all of this in. A changelog is being maintained and will be posted when the update goes live. In the mean time, enjoy.

I am here to share another high res uniform set with all of you, Looking what's out there for 3DS there was nothing that was uniform in both sizing and placement of the "Nintendo 3DS" banner. I wanted to make a set that was both high quality and has uniformity when scrolling through the platform of games. This set is done in a 2.5D approach like many of my other sets where carts/discs come in some type of case. This set contains every NTSC game that has been released to date. This set has a count of 418 Nintendo 3DS games. 414 + 4 of the "new Nintendo 3DS games". I have named this set using the no-intro naming scheme. When dropping these in your Launchbox build there may be a few boxes that do not autoload due to the naming differences between how Launchbox scrapes the games and what no-intro names them. Therefore you may have to manually update a few images to your liking. I would also like to say thank you to Diskmach for providing me with a set of flat 3DS covers to implement into these set! Enjoy everyone! As always if any issues are spotted please let me know! As included as a bonus are a sub folder filled with some first party Mario games that received an alternate release red case. I believe I have added all the games I have seen with the red case but if there are more please share a link with me and I can create that as well.

Beta 3 is out now with the following: New Feature: The MAME full-set importer is now MAME-version agnostic and will work much better with older or bleeding-edge MAME releases (manual MAME updates on the LaunchBox server are no longer required) The Amazon/Twitch importer will now download backgrounds and screenshots from Amazon Fixed some issues with importing Amazon/Twitch games as additional apps (combining them in) Fixed some Origin import issues Adding some further logging for Origin imports to help address any further issues that come up Fixed the ROM import issue reported above Fixed a rare threading error with multi-threaded downloads Let us know if you run into any other bugs with this release. Also, some details on the new MAME import features. The MAME import process uses the following five resources in order to compile and combine all the data necessary for the importer: MAME.xml (generated by MAME itself) catver.ini (from ProgrettoSnaps and manually updated by them every MAME release) - http://www.progettosnaps.net/catver/ languages.ini (from ProgrettoSnaps and manually updated by them every MAME release) - http://www.progettosnaps.net/languages/ series.ini (from ProgrettoSnaps and manually updated by them every MAME release) - http://www.progettosnaps.net/series/ nplayers.ini (from ArcadeBelgium and manually updated by them every MAME release) - https://nplayers.arcadebelgium.be/ The four ini files above are all included by the LaunchBox setup process and are installed to LaunchBox\ThirdParty\MAME. These four files can be manually updated with newer or older versions as needed. The current versions are for the latest version of MAME (0.227). In the future, we may try to implement automatic upgrades for these files, but for the most part they should work fine with different versions of MAME. The worst case is that newer games for the latest versions of MAME may be missing some metadata (such as genres, number of players, etc.) unless the files are manually updated. The MAME.xml file contains the majority of the data required for the import, and is automatically generated from MAME every time the full-set importer is run (so it automatically matches the correct version of MAME).

Alright, so that was a fun little rabbit hole. @edgemundo sent me a bunch of boxes (thanks again!) and I ended up making / remaking a bunch (383) myself as well. Turns out marcoooo's boxes are a modified version of Mr. Retrolust's arcade boxes so, with some fiddling, I made the modifications to the template/PSD actions/bats from there to recreate the same format that he used; and now the process from beginning to end is super quick and easy, and I can create/update the boxes as needed over time. As an added bonus, I ended up finding some better covers for some games while working on these as well. If anyone wants to upload any of these to the LBGDB, they are welcome to do so. You can find them here: 3D Boxes.zip I may end up creating a few more here and there if anything grabs my attention but by and large my sweep through the collection is complete. Everything's looking nice and snazzy now. Minus the ones that are currently just a screenshot, of course, but I can live with that for the time being. The metadata cleanup is complete (or at least as complete as it's going to be for the time being). Everything that I could match I have, any incorrect matches that I've found have been fixed, anything that was already matched but had additional metadata on the db but not in the collection has been updated (that I found), and every game has, at the very least, a genre tag. The last thing I'm doing is auditing to see what needs to have screenshots added and adding them as much as I can (this is basically only remaining for games that have no db entry at all and need screenshots added manually). I may or may not finish that, it just depends on whether or not I get too tired of it haha After that, all I need to do is make two versions of the Magazines xml for import (one for default launch with web versions and one for default launch with local versions) per @mordroc's request a while back [edit: done], update the Import and XML insert text files [edit: done], do a bit of testing with importing the collection into my main LB setup, and then some backend tidying.

New Year, new release. This release is not a simple drop into Mame, you will have to use a full mame 0.227 setup from mamedev.org, this is due to changes that have been made since 0.226. Once you have that installed just drop this version on to it and overwrite. If you already have a Mame install that's not 0.227 i suggest renaming your current folder and make a new one, install 0.227 and the no-nag, then from your original Mame copy the folders artwork/cfg/ctrl/hi/ini/nvram/roms and any ini files from the root folder (mame.ini/plugin.ini/ui.ini). And overwrite when asked too. NOTE: This does NOT interfere with the Leader boards at all. **This removes the nag screen that informs you if a rom doesn't work correctly, or if at all, if you use this no nag, then please do NOT go to the mame support site with issues with games, please only use if you understand that there will be no help from anyone at mamedev as you are using a modified version of mame. mame64.exe - Normal Mame with Nags removed. For Version 0.227 You are required to download the full 0.227 official pack and install it, then just overwrite the exe with the replacement, this covers any changes the mame devs may have made to the support files. After you have done this, make sure you copy the folders artwork, ctrlr, cheat, hlsl, ini, folders and the mame.ini file from your original mame folder, and move/copy them to the new install. make sure in the mame.ini file you have the following set. I created a bunch of marquees to be used for platforms. These were created with the Vertical Aspirations theme in mind, but they can be used anywhere a generic platform marquee is needed. I have included the template and some instructions (Gimp). If you find yourself creating more to fill in any that I've missed (and I've missed plenty I'm sure), please share them in the comments and I will add them to the archive. Another box art set for another dead system (but that's not even true, games are still being made for the Atari 2600!). Frustrated with lack of decent Atari 2600 2D box art images, I set out to collect or even make box art for the hundreds of games for this system. A lot of these images were taken from coverproject.net, or made from scratch by me and others. Only front and left spine images are included, no back box art for this sorry. I did the left spines so I could make a 3D box art set which I will upload as well. I tried to get the best quality source images possible and folks at coverproject.net made that possible. For the Europe, unlicensed and prototype releases I did the best I could with what was available. These look great and I wish I could add them all to the gamesdb but that would take so effin long. There are hundreds of official and unofficial releases here. And a lot of alternate boxes for some games are included. There are 2 downloads, boxes with spine and boxes without. Enjoy these guys!

Just to provide a quick update, I've finished pulling out and processing media from the tape archive for 60% of the collection. I've gotten 238 covers (the archive already includes separate images for the covers, but a lot of times they aren't cropped all that well so I usually end up having to crop them from the original complete inlay anyway) and 203 back covers, compared those against the ones that were already in the collection and replaced where it was an upgrade (which is most of the time), and made 3D boxes for many of those. The current count of 3D boxes that I've made is 556. In addition to that I've created manuals from the inlays for about 230 games, about 70 of which were entirely new and the rest were upgrades/replacements of existing manuals. The current total manual count is 983, and I anticipate this will surpass 1000 by the time it's all done. The process is slowed down by the fact that many of the manuals are in a format that's really not ideal for viewing in the manual viewer by default. For example: So what ends up happening is I have to cut these up into separate images for easier viewing: You can, of course, always zoom in on any of these, but I want to have them formatted in such a way that by default that isn't really necessary. Any given page should be relatively easy to read as-is without doing anything (other than changing from one page to the next). Sometimes it's a relatively straightforward change like the above, other times not as much. Original: Edited: Original: Edited (editing the image so that the language order matches the first page): ...all this crap ends up taking time. But, as I said, I'm 60% through at this point so that's pretty good progress for a week I think. Just gotta keep on trudging through it.

Okay, so I've finished sorting through the 3D boxes for the entire collection. @edgemundo has been a real champ working on 3D boxes to fill in the gaps. This does not account for the games that have no cover whatsoever, however, that will need a fanart box created for them. If anyone has any desire to help with those, I've attached a zip of the screenshots used as covers for the relevant games. There are 430 of them. Temp-Screenshot.zip At this point I'm just going to let edgemundo do his thing while I work on backend cleanup and some final testing. We're almost there!

Hi, So first, a humble brag: Total Submitted Changes 14125 Total Pending Changes 1 Total Approved Changes 14107 Total Rejected Changes 17 Those 17 were all blatantly obvious, completely my fault and I got to read why. However I have made more subtle mistakes as well that have been approved that usually at least one of the moderators has noticed and most likely written a reason why they clicked the reject-button. I would suggest that even when something gets approved, the submitter could see the reasons for the rejection(s). Now I usually check whether there's one or more rejection on an approved item and if yes, double-check if I made a typo or some such. Most likely that information is already there written by the moderator rejecting said submission that I just can't see.

I love the designs by ÁlvaroMG but his DS design layout didn't work out for me. So I recreated it in a way to use the hybrid/top 2:1 ratio. I made this with Retroarch in mind so results may vary if you use a different emulator. Settings: 1870 Width 928 Height hybrid/top Hybrid Layout: Ratio 2:1 NDS.cfg

Launchbox is a commercial product and nothing to do with preservation, preservation is for the emulator devs and rom archivers. Any notion that the XBox is "the best hardware" or that the community is moving over to it for emulation is just laughable. It's nothing more than a novelty and something for YouTubers to make videos about. The PC will remain the leading emulation platform for quite some time to come because it is by far the most flexible and open platform, not to mention the most powerful for newer and more accurate emulators. At the end of the day Jason needs to make money to provide for his family not make a frontend for a platform only a small handful of people will ever use. Hell, there's more of an argument to be made for a Linux version of Launchbox but that too does not have enough people to make it a viable business decision at this time. This may or may not change in the future but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

Pure is currently missing many features that I rely on. Keep in mind that I am currently using vanilla 0.74, svn daum, ece (an older version because they regressed pixel perfect functionality from it), and dosbox x. Then, I have another 6-10 custom builds designed for one off game compatibility. Such as MS Flight Sim 1, which does not run properly on any other version. The reasons I use all these versions are highly varied. DOSbox X for example handles games that use the DAC on pc speaker to play tones. This allowed games without a sound card to sound much better than standard beeps and boops. However, because it was a hack, standard dosbox, svn, and ece don't support this. I also use extended features like ipx/null modem, composite cga, mt-32, sound canvas 55 fluidsynth sound font, Tandy 3 voice, pixel perfect, scalers and shaders, 3Dfx, IDE pass through to full MS-DOS images, etc etc etc. A majority, if not all, of the above features are not supported in Pure currently. Personally, I don't believe there will ever be a single version of DOSbox that will be capable of launching every game. I am hoping that the dosbox staging crew gets close though. They have a pipeline for properly testing regressions, while also doing their work in a properly documented and public github. Pure is currently a single person who has a private repository and does code dumps every so often. Pure is, quite simply, a very basic version of DOSBox aimed at retroarch. So, refund that is great for some specific use case scenarios, it is *far* from being a preservation level utility. Pure makes a lot of assumptions. For example, it forces aspect ratio on. While this might make sense at first glance, we have lists of games that are broken and distorted by this setting. We have custom scripts in place to ensure games like this are run properly, no matter what settings outside conf files try to set. Pure also seems to want to treat dos games like rom files. Console games are preinstalled games with a very low amount of variation. They do not have setup utilities that are capable of thousands of combinations of sound, video, network, and game play options. Console game zips do not have raw media images in them that have to be mounted in specific ways in order to run properly. This means, that for Pure to run properly requires the game be a rip. It can't handle a bin/cue image. It can't handle an eXoDOS zip file that has the games bin/cue in one folder and the installed game in another. So, that means Pure HURTS game preservation by preferring game rips over original media. The reason I took the time to write all this up is because there is a ton of hype and excitement over Pure in the past few months. From my perspective it prefers butchered games, makes assumptions about your setup that can conflict with the game, and force you to play using whatever basic settings he already choose (vga and soundblaster, for example). eXoDOS uses original media, allows you to launch multiple versions of the same games, choose nearly any supported sound card, play ipx multiplayer, use shaders, use scalers, turn aspect ratio on and off, play with pixel perfect, use composite video modes, hear proper DAC audio, choose multiple video types, and honestly... There is a lot more but I have trouble remembering everything we have setup in eXoDOS. So for people who want to throw a copy of DOOM they downloaded from some abandonware site on their retropie to play with a control pad using basic sound and resolution settings, pure may very well be your easiest route. Not the best. The easiest. For a project that looks too preserve DOS games with their original media and as many launch options and possible... It's actually totally the opposite of what we need. I hope all that makes sense. Thanks for reading.

Also here's a little tip for anybody using HBMAME. You can use the overhauled MAME full-set importer for HBMAME sets now as well. I just tried it out and it worked like a charm. It even merges nicely with your already imported MAME games. Just add HBMAME as an emulator and select it in the full-set importer and you're good to go. But be aware that some games have A LOT of hacks which will clutter up the additional apps entries of a single game very quickly. So it might be a better idea to import your HBMAME set as a separate platform. For example, here's a screenshot of King of Fighters '98 to show you what I mean (notice how you can only see the hacks up to the letter C? You have to scroll down the list for quite a while until you reach the end of it and see the other options of the context menu):

And I have to deal with a full-time CGI artist job and 2 young kids. So I opened a Patreon page that could allow me to dedicate days on my work time to continue creating video. I'm not trying to get rich, but like everyone else, I cant spend 1 day/week working for free! I hope you understand. If the project interests you: Here is my Patreon page. # IN DETAIL ? The main features : 16:9 only. (Works on other ratio, but with black bands) Full 4K asset. (Any resolution must work, 4K assets) Totally responsive. No resolution deformation on text size or placement. Because of the white/black background, some ClearLogo comes with the theme. Gamepad connection indicator & battery level. # RECOMMENDATION ? Any design choice gives limitations. Here are some recommendations for this theme : LaunchBox/BigBox v.10.0 (and up) VLC highly recommended. Design for work with COLORFUL platform video set. Community Theme Creator for BigBox - Third-party Apps and Plugins - LaunchBox Community Forums (launchbox-app.com)

Submitter MarianS3 Submitted 01/01/2021 Category Big Box Custom Themes

For anyone interested @Z3R0B4NG sent me this link which contains the files in question, and do indeed include the inside scans. It's uh... pretty eye-watering. Gonna have to dive deep into this over the weekend. What a treasure trove. https://ia801709.us.archive.org/view_archive.php?archive=/18/items/Ultimate_Tape_Archive_V2.0/Ultimate_Tape_Archive_V2.0.zip

    !! UPDATE !! + 3 Platform Video, by @tiualex !! Big Thx to him - Microsoft MSX - Microsoft MSX2 - Nintendo Pokemon Mini

Hello there! Just repost this as viking told me, I didn't find some of the systems I have. Specifically "Pokemon mini", "MSX" and "MSX2" for now. I don't want to use different style vids for them. Also they are the first in my list and annoy me. So I tried to do something similar for these systems. Unfortunately I'm not an artist or a designer. My skills very low. Especially on shadows. I used some material from "nostalgia" theme, but l tried my best in everything else.. I didn't know about the tutorial that the viking published. I'm not in "after effects" at all. "Adobe premiere" is my top. But now it is better than nothing for me. I rate my work as a non-professional mod for Colorful theme. But If anyone interested, I can share until viking releases his version of it. For "MSX" I used "Sony HB-75P" model, for "MSX 2" - "Philips vg-8235". Also sorry if my english isn't very good, Thank you. P.S. Oh, I see the guideline now. Maybe I'll try to rework it with correct way later.

So I went ahead and did the best I could for those old Atari 2600 logos: They are not ultra quality redraws or anything, but they get the job done. The look great with the finishes boxes. Thank you seaview59 for the swedish erotica logo!

What is it? 4x3 optimised version of the CoinOps Redux theme (port of CoinOps Next to BigBox), co-created with @Klopjero. The theme has been developed using the Community Theme Creator (all the credit to @y2guru). As in the case of CoinOps, it relies on 1120x1080 fanart images for game wheel views. Big thanks to BritneysPAIRS and the CoinOps team for their work in CoinOps and for their amazing theme design. Views It includes the following BigBox views: - 4 platform views. - 2 game wheels for arcade based systems. - 2 horizontal game wheels. - Systems view. For platform views, we suggest to use @viking colorful videos (4x3 version). Files available [CoinOps Redux (4x3) - 1.0.zip] The BigBox theme files. Just uncompress and copy / paste to Launchbox\Themes folder. Screenshots 16:9 version The 16:9 version of the theme is linked below:

Just for future reference, quite often the cause for stuttering is the power management setting of your graphics card. For Nvidia the default setting is "Optimal Power". That puts your graphics card in its lowest power state faster and is sluggish to clock up. This can result in stuttering, lag or screen tearing. For gaming the "Adaptive Mode" is better. Adaptive Mode switches to a higher power state and thus higher clocks faster. Sometimes its even necessary to select "Prefer Maximum Performance" which forces the card in its highest power state. It is best to set the power management on a per game \ emulator basis, because for most of the time "Optimal Power" is fine. You don't want your graphics card on full throttle while browsing the web.

This is exactly what I have been wanting. Even if the item is controversial (8 accept and 5 reject for example) I still wouldn't be able to read what people didn't like about it, and would likely continue to make the same mistakes.

This theme was designed to add as little overhead as possible, while giving a clean and simplistic view of the content. To do this I decided on not adding any images at all, and instead used XAML to build all the elements. When zipped, the entire theme comes out around 300KB. RetroFresh works with your own media and uses them as its centerpiece. Hope you guys enjoy. Change Log Installation Instructions Extract 'RetroFresh 1.4.zip' or 'RetroFresh Detailed 1.4.zip' into the LaunchBox/Themes folder. Go into the RetroFresh/Fonts folder and install the 'SF Atarian System.ttf' font Open Big Box, go to Options/Views, select the RetroFresh theme. Video Demonstration The views I made are as follows: RetroFresh RetroFresh Detailed RetroFresh - Glass RetroFresh - Glass Detailed If anyone finds any issues, please let me know.
