  1. Visual bug:

    Beats 1.8, LB 13.12

When the download progress bar makes it to the far left side, the rounded corners are not shown and the rectangle of the progress slider is shown. It's as though the Z-order is not correct for the progress bar left rounded corner. I tried to capture a screenshot but it was almost impossible, sorry.

    • Open RA by itself, not through LB.
    • Load a core for the desired system.
    • Go to Settings>Input>Hotkeys (set hotkeys - especially the first one Hot Key Enable)
      • then go down to Port 1 Controls. Set your buttons.
    • Go to Main Menu>Load Content - load a game corresponding to the core you loaded.
    • When the game has started, use the button combo or keyboard combo to access the Quick Menu.
    • Press [up] four times to find the Overrides option, enter it.
    • Press [up] twice to save core overrides. This will save your configuration for this specific core.
    • Repeat the process for all other cores/systems.

*** You may or may not want to enable Settings>Configuration>Save Configuration on Quit depending on whether or not you want to save your RA configuration globally or per core (this is needed when you want to apply a specific shader and/or overlay automatically on when launching a game from a particular platform from within LB. This would be done with Main Menu>Configuration File>Save New Configuration. You would set Extra Command Line Parameters as such:

I think it would be easy to just be able to select a default for the game frontend pic.

That's exactly how it's intended to be setup. Start with the image priority settings. Set which type you want displayed. Next, have only one image in the main type. This is the image that will be displayed. If the main image type does not exist then it looks for the second image type and the image within it... And so on.

There is no point in having multiple box front images, just have the one you want to see, all others are just taking up space. The only types of images you would want multiple of are gameplay and Fanart backgrounds, all other categories like cart front, 3D cart, 3D box, clear logo, box front/back/spine would all only need one per category, the rest is wasted space.

  3. In LB options go to controller bindings. Set your controller button combo for Exit.

Next edit the RA emulator settings within LB. You'll need to set a Auto-Hotkey (AHK) for game running. This can be found here on the LB forums. This will basically link your button combo for Exit to the ESC key which is the default RA shutdown key. Search the forums for "RetroArch AHK exit"

  4. I hear you but, as you know, RPCS3, PCSX2, and Dolphin are ultra simple to update and trivial to do so. You could

    1. run the emulators from the server and write-protect the controller and emulator settings files OR

    2. Run LB & emulators locally and then use FreeFileSync to automatically (--automatic using the included RealTimeSync .exe) sync all LB and emulator files to/from the server. You would then set the files you don't want to sync as excluded in the Filters list in FFS.

    What about emulators

That would be the idea with the individual installs - each emulator would be able to handle the individual video and controller settings.

You don't need a license for each machine, LB allows for a single license on multiple machines.

  6. To help lighten the mood and to further highlight the success of LaunchBox: LaunchBox was featured in the August, 2023 Maximum PC magazine article titled "Play Classic Retro Games On Your PC". This is quite the coincidence given that August is the 10th anniversary of LaunchBox! It's as though a higher power is at work... 😊 I'm sure it would be copyright infringement to post the article here but here is the cover for the article.

  7. LB can only be run on Windows and therefore a container would need to have Windows as the underlying OS and since Windows isn't free then that isn't an option for distribution. IF LB is ever developed for Linux then yes a Docker container would definitely be possible.

  8. Really either way would be just fine. With the portable method you will definitely be gaining the ability to take that drive anywhere and use your LB install from any computer. However, the best performance would be installing LB on your Windows OS as long as that is a SSD; launch box will be much more performant if it can directly access the videos and images from a fast SSD drive.

No need to do any drive mapping to LB, when you do the game import wizard it will tell LB where to look for the ROMs and then it will ask if you want to keep them in their place or if you want to move them. With the latest versions of LB I think you'll be very surprised with how good the import process has become. I would highly suggest watching the ETA Prime YouTube channel tutorials as well as the unbroken software YouTube tutorials searching those channels for your specific console or emulator.
