Beta 3 is out with the following changes:

    • Improvement: Updated the MAME metadata file that's included with LaunchBox

What is the change with this?  Does it include more categories for the metadata?

  2. Will the auto-import ignore importing files that you have previously, manually deleted from the library but files remain in the rom folders?  If not, it seems like you would not be able to effectively manually delete from the library.

  3. I thought I would give the Retro Acheivements a spin... got the API, did the hash check... tried a quick acheivement that was listed on the website for Castlevania... I completed it but nothing happened.  I read above that .zip format is not supported?  Is this true for NES roms, or would I have some other problem.  Most of my roms are in a .zip format.  Is there .zip support on the table in the future, or is that not a possibility?

I did a few tests but aren't seeing anything out of the ordinary with regards to the auto-pop system. We also haven't touched this system in a very long time. Can you open up a separate thread and show your exact playlist rules, what games you are expecting to see, and what games you are seeing instead.

Sure... no problem.  Thanks for replying.  The new thread is here:   Auto-Populate Rules Not Working - Troubleshooting - LaunchBox Community Forums (launchbox-app.com)

  5. As requested by faeran... a separate thread regarding auto-populate rules not working.  Rules to not show a particular platform, etc in the playlist does not filter those properly.

As requested, pictured here are an example of the rules that aren't working.  The platforms that should be filtered still show in the playlist.  This happens if you add the rules to an existing playlist or create a new one with those rules already added.

We are hoping that this brings us close to a release candidate here, with an official release pending shortly after. All feedback with this beta is greatly appreciated.

As of beta 5 the auto populate issue I had mentioned still exists.  I'm sure you guys may not have had time to look at it, but no one had replied about it so I'm just posting this feedback in the event that you thought it had been fixed during the beta updates.

Not sure if this started with this beta or before, but I noticed that if you have a playlist, then add an auto-populate rule to not include a platform in the playlist, it does not remove those games from the playlist.

Along these same lines... I removed about half of the rom files in a platform directory, but when I run the "scan>for removed rom files" LaunchBox found no missing files.

"I am still occasionally having to force kill the Launchbox  process when sometimes after closing and trying to re-open (even after a significant wait) I get a message that it is still running."

I got this again today.  I had closed LB and came back hours later and found that it would not start due to another instance and had to be task killed.

Fixed: Some LaunchBox themes were using more memory than they should and not releasing it correctly

Is this related to the issue I mentioned at the end of the previous beta cycle?

"I am still occasionally having to force kill the Launchbox  process when sometimes after closing and trying to re-open (even after a significant wait) I get a message that it is still running."

  11. The code wheel is so cool.  Great nostagia element that will add to some games.  Some of the other features like the saved settings are going to make things a lot nicer as well.  I'm looking forward to seeing some of those code wheels though... it looks like a lot of time went into that.

*edit*  Has anyone heard what kind of file size this one will be?  I want to make sure I'm ready when it comes out.

  12. I noticed that it was well annotated... for a guy like me that doesn't know much about this type of thing it can still be pretty confusing.  I'm sure it's second nature for you though.

I found some of those durations, but changing them didn't seem to do much.  I mainly want to start the animations at the same time instead of staggered and maybe reduce the length.  I'll take another look at it and see if I can figure it out.

  13. I am still occasionally having to force kill the Launchbox  process when sometimes after closing and trying to re-open (even after a significant wait) I get a message that it is still running.

  14. I am asking about the new default theme for LB (since there is no similar thread in the LB themes section).

I would like to adjust the fade-in times for the images in the game details panel.  If anyone can point this section of the .xaml out for me, it is most appreciated.  Thanks.

Again, this is regarding the new default theme for LB.

*edit*  Was told it may be in a "storyboard" related section.  If anyone can point out the specifics, I appreciate it.  Thanks again.

  15. Great... thank you for that... I didn't even know about that thread.  People could use this thread for feedback... or better yet, maybe start a "default specific" feedback and support thread in the launchbox themes for windows section.  Probably better if it is started by you guys instead of me anyway.  Thanks again.

*edit*  I think the reason I didn't know about that thread is I don't use Bigbox and I don't check that forum.

  16. There are a lot of things I like about the new default theme... I can tell a lot of time went into it and it is much more polished than the old ones... but there are things most of us are going to want to customize and change.  Because the changes are done in the .xaml files instead of gui options, most of us are not going to know how to make the changes we want to make... in fact, we are going to have to rely on a handful of people to customize themes for us, and they are still never going to meet everyone's personal preferences because everyone is different.  My personal thoughts on a solution is to make far more gui options for changing themes, or a basic, minimal separate app for visual theming... I don't know, there are probably better solutions.

Regardless, for now... people are going to want to know what lines to change in the .xaml to customize the things they want.  I don't know of a thread to give feedback on the default theme, or to ask for support on customizing so I thought I would start one.   Just leave a comment with what you want to customize in the new default theme (for other themes probably best to use existing support threads) and hopefully someone on the forums will be able to help out.
