    Hey @CTRL-ALT-DEFEAT:)

I was wondering if are you still making playlist themes? if you are my friend I have a couple of requests if your interested

    • Disney
    • Looney Tunes
    • The Simpsons

    ;)

I can definitely add those to my list. I've been trying to get PS2 and PC game themes done, so those are what I'm focusing on at the moment.

I've also got Shining Force collection, Virtua Fighter collection and Shmups collection themes planned.

However, that Looney Toons one sounded like fun, so I did get something started for it :D:

Muted the music so it would render quicker for the preview. Should have this one done pretty soon.

  2. In LaunchBox, go to Manage Emulators and be sure the following Auto-Hotkey script is under the tab designated for it (copy and paste the bolded bits it if it's not):

; This section closes PCSX2 when pressing Escape
    $Esc::
    {
        Process, Close, {{{StartupEXE}}}
    }

For MAME, you don't need the script.

Now launch BigBox and go to Options -> Controller Automation

I use a DualShock 4 myself and I set the Hold button to my Share button (appears in BB as button 7) and the Close the Active Window button to Options (button 8 in BB), so you can do the same with Back and Start on yours.

Now when you are in a game and you want to exit, hold the Back button and then press Start. This will close the game and emulator.

  3. Wrestling Collection Playlist Theme (16:9)

    View File

This took a lot longer to finish than I anticipated, but here it is. I had to cut back on some of the ideas I had for this initially (largely due to lack of skill with the software), but I hope you guys like it. This was a special request from @heelsinc (sorry it took so long).

I was asked by someone commenting on my YouTube channel to do a playlist theme for the Shining Force series and I have one that I started for Virtua Fighter (by request) and one for Shmups, though I am primarily focusing on gameplay vids for PC and PS2 at the moment.

  4. No worries! For the playlists, I hope to make those more interesting than the game specific ones since I make them with longer run times.

I still have to get more gameplay clips for the video and I have to work the next few days (12hr shifts... yeck), but I should have this one ready by Monday/Tuesday at the latest.

I'm honestly not super happy with it, but I don't want to start all over either. In any case, hopefully it will look good in your collection, but if it's not, no worries and I can try making a different one.

  5. I have had the same issue that @Charco has seen; also for the Blue Box version.

For me, it has only happened when first starting up BigBox. The Categories menu will have no video, platform menus will have no video, but the game menus will have a video. If I close out of BigBox and relaunch that fixes it. It's only happened about 3 times now (out of at least 30 times I've launched BigBox since updating to this theme). Two times with the original DLL and once with the DLL linked above.

  6. Excuse you? I don't really care who you are and I won't bother commenting on the bulk of the drivel you decided to reply with.

It doesn't matter if you vouch for the site the library was downloaded from. Install it all day long if you want to, but there is absolutely no way you can say with certainty that it is non-malicious, so passing it along to other people as a solution is potentially putting someone else at risk if it is, in fact, malicious. Providing an official source is a better solution and if you go to the link I provided you can click the link for the Microsoft Update Catalog and download an update for their OS. If that did not work for you and you decided to go the route you did, you could mention as such (you didn't give anything specific other than "red herrings"), but providing a source that is non-official is still a bad idea. It would be up to individuals to figure that out on their own.

Have you noticed the plugins section here? Yeah, these are libraries created by users in the community to add extra features to Launchbox. However, they are not official and if you try to download one, you are prompted that it is at your own risk to do so. The reason? There is no way that it can be absolutely confirmed without thorough testing that any of these libraries won't run malicious code on someone's computer. It is very common for a virus to be masked as something harmless; happens all the time.

The d3dcompiler IS a component of DirectX. D3D is Direct 3D; one of several API in the DirectX compilation of APIs. That specific library may not be a component for versions of DirectX before DirectX 12, but it is still a DirectX component.

  7. I wouldn't recommend downloading libraries like that from non-official websites.

That library is part of DirectX, so it'd be better to install the latest from Microsoft if the package included with the Launchbox install doesn't include the library for some reason.

You can also get the library, standalone, directly from this Microsoft KB:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4019990/update-for-the-d3dcompiler-47-dll-component-on-windows

Keeping with Sony's platforms for now, so moving on to the PS2! I'm going to upload these in reverse order this time, so starting in the Zs. I'll have a little over hundred videos uploaded once this is finished.

For Final Fantasy themes, I already of most of the games for this platform available from the link below, but I still need to make one for Final Fantasy X and X International. I'm already using a theme made by someone else for X, but I will make a new one to finish out the PS2 themes for this series. I will upload those to that particular thread once they are done, instead of to this one, so check there if you are looking for them.

  9. Definitely not trying to be nosy and it's none of my business to know specifics and not interested in any sort of drama, but I'm getting a little bit concerned. Over the last month-ish, I've noticed there have been fewer updates to LB/BB than what Jason generally puts out.

I've also noticed the threads of people that watch the live streams and it seems that Jason is not doing those as of late. There also hasn't been a news upload since June 24th, though there have been some tutorials, so that's at least good.

I'm aware that Brad left a few weeks ago, so I figure it's maybe related, but it's been awfully quiet.

In any case, and again, I'm not interested in speculation or getting into other people's business or jumping the gun, so hopefully all is going well and we get some kind of update from Jason soon.

  10. PlayStation Now Category/Game Theme Video (16:9)

    View File

I recently decided to try out PlayStation Now (since there is a free trial) and added it to my Launchbox/BigBox setup. This video is really just a placeholder for now. I haven't had much time to devote to larger video projects lately with work and looking for a new place/preparing to move, etc (not to mention getting pretty hooked on Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age the last couple of weeks - only a couple Trophies left!). I feel bad since I have started a couple other Playlist Themes for Wrestling and one for a Virtua Fighter Collection, but haven't been able to devote the time I would need to invest to getting them finished. I slapped this together for PlayStation Now (really wish you could add and launch applications from the top level, rather having to have them nested into a category, but alas). There is no gameplay featured or anything, but when I get more time I will flesh it out, so just consider it a hold over for now. I've also included what I am using for the Clear Logo, Box Front/Banner and Fanart - Background. Just click the images beneath the video and Save As.

    Yeah, awesome!

    For tutorials, I recommend:

Video Co-Pilot. These guys are pros and make a lot of motion graphics for movies/TV. They sell a bunch of plugins for After Effects (most of which are pretty spendy), but they also show you how to do a lot of the stuff with what is already built-in to After Effects, which is pretty incredible. Most everything is really easy to follow, but some of the tutorials do require an intermediate understanding of how After Effects works. Youtube channel link below:

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWp2Kj8aD9XlCGiIZzwHciw

I don't use these as much, but I'd also check out Kriscoart, Mt Mograph and RiverCityGraphix. Channel links below:

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcck1Zdvdt5aML_O32Y_Adg

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSUSgx9qc_NydrOL59xbJIA

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuZiNqgNdWbtEg29tMLVaNg

For the art work, all of it is from Google image searches. Sometimes you'll be able to find character art already in PNG format with an alpha channel (background transparency), but frequently you'll have to use a wallpaper or something else and cut it out yourself.

@JamesBaker actually put up a few tutorials himself and the first one covers exactly how to do this in Photo Shop. If you don't have Photo Shop/don't want to pay for it, you can also use GIMP, which is free and is what I used for the last several years (only recently upgraded my Creative Cloud license to include all of Adobe's software). However, the pen tool in Photo Shop is significantly more powerful for cutting out images than the Fuzzy Select tool in GIMP is.

    Jame's channel link below:

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxNgRrtLSth94xOHNUHqUfw

If you decide to just go with GIMP for now, I can tell you how to use the Fuzzy Select.

    Hope this gets you going!

  12. PC Game Themes (16:9)

    View File

Going to go ahead and start a thread for PC games. I have well over two hundred games, so I'll just be uploading new ones as I feel like doing them. I've already done a number, so I have links below for those. Newer themes will go into the playlist further below (starting with Dead Space) and will be downloadable from this page.

Update: 06/11/2020 - This thread was getting obnoxious so I removed all the other links I had here as I intend to re-visit a number of those older videos at some point since I was still pretty new to AE when I originally made those. I will probably clear out a number of these as well that are not the latest versions I've made. Someone had also asked me a while back if I could bundle these into one big upload, so I will do that once I clean up previous versions and the channel. I will still upload individually too, but after I get 50 or so new ones made I will add them to the overall "bundle" download.

Update 2: 06/11/2020 - So a bundled upload just isn't possible since I can't attach ZIP, RARs, 7z, etc.... so nevermind that idea. Sorry for those hoping for a bulk download from here.

  13. So this is what I've got so far. This is cached at half resolution since it would have taken too long to cache at full, but I think it gives a good gist. Because it's just cache, there is a little warping/skipping in the audio/video, but they won't be there once rendered.

I'm still not sure on this, but I'm going to use the belt to feature the gameplay clips. I figure there tons of wrestling games, so I'm going to use all five "squares" on the belt. I thought it would be cool to transition to a Los Luchadores style about midway through, so the flag transitions to Mexico's and then I switched to a theme song for a Mexican tag team duo (OGT), but not sure I like it. Should I just keep it American wrestling? I don't know.

I'm also going to drop the light rigging fixtures if I can't get the lights to interact correctly with the belt, but I haven't started that yet, so they are still in there. Also still deciding on intro/transition stuff.

    any update :D

I've still got one coming for ya. Haven't had a lot of time to devote to it the past week, but I have made some progress. I'll load a clip later today. I'm still unsure about it, though. I want to incorporate Los Luchadores wrestling into it, as well, but not sure how it fits overall. You'll have to see.

Also still not sure how I want to display the gameplay clips... or how to get the spotlight to work how I want it to, so might have to give up on that bit of it.

  15. WiiWare Themes (16:9)

    View File

This will be on hiatus after this initial upload until I am finished with the PlayStation themes (about half way finished).

However, I wanted to get this uploaded sooner than later. This was originally going to be for Mega Man 8 for PlayStation, but the Mega Man I wanted to use is actually from Mega Man 10 and then I realized I already have Mega Man 8 for Saturn, but I digress...

Anyhow, this theme is just as much a @JamesBaker theme as it is my own. James has started doing tutorials for Adobe Suite software and since I had questions about how to get Echo to work right, he used the Mega Man art I wanted to use in some tutorials covering those things, so a humongous thank you to him for giving some lessons and for giving detailed explanation for what is exactly occurring when applying effects and adjusting values.

Once I'm done with PlayStation, I'll finish this collection up next, though I don't have very many WiiWare titles.

    1. Mega Man 10

  16. - Points 2 and 3 that @lordmonkus suggests

    - The Clean up images tool to be a clean up media tool and include video/music/manuals that no longer have an associated game.

    - The ability to mark a game as Completed while in BigBox and ability to delete games and associated media (I wouldn't consider this a new feature since it exists in LB). It's already possible to mark a games as a Favorite or Broken and you can even add games to Playlists while in BigBox, so it'd be nice to get some of these functions from LB rolled into BB.

    - Additional apps being sorted in ascending order in BigBox. Example: If you have a Disc 02 and Disc 03, in LB, it will be in ascending order in the game's right-click menu. However, in BigBox, it lists them in descending order (e.g.: Disc 03 will come before Disc 02)

    - @JaysArcade's suggestion about the non-repeating logo for platforms with few games in them. Perhaps adding a hard stop to the wheel scroll (so "Z" doesn't loop back to "A" and vice versa) would make that possible? Then it could be made a toggle feature in BigBox's options: Full Wheel scroll and Locked Wheel Scroll... or something like that?
