  1. You guys mention splitting your mame sets which essentially is what I aim to do, but how on earth do you know what games are from what systems. All the mame roms are abbreviated names and I've googled splitting mame rom sets but not found any info on how to go about it.  Where do I start I order to split the mame collection up?

  2. Can I just jump in here if you don't mind an quickly ask, how on earth do you separate the different systems from a mame rom pack. All roms names are abbreviated and zipped? So again very confusing. I'd quite like to have these systems separated but don't know how to differentiate between one group of roms and the next. Would the Lightspeed app help in this regard and separate all the roms into the respective platform folders?

'I've never used it and know the current import feature it offers  doesn't work due to changes to LB, but still wondered is it will sort the roms and move them.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I guess it's kind of related

I'm all for figuring this out.   will post some screens later when I'm not on my Linux laptop.  I just find it hard to believe that, if LB/BB is indeed mostly cpu reliant, that with a fairly fresh copy of Windows 10, on an i5 6600K that runs @ 4.5 Ghz, that I could be having problems when my idle cpu usage sits between 0% and 7%.  My idle RAM sits usually around 2GB, out of 16GB.  I find it strange that apparently something is eating up my cpu cycles, causing BB to perform worse, but, my BF1 can run on maxed settings with Supersampling at 150% and I still avg 100fps.  Rainbow Six siege - no different.  I'm primarily a Linux developer, and I dont pretend to know much about Windows development, or the inner workings of LB/BB, for which I havent even looked into, but it seems like if BB isn't utilizing OpenGL for everything, it could really use it.  I'm not suggesting I know more or could fix BB, just a suggestion.

On one hand, I can totally understand and respect that the devs are saying from their experience that there must be something eating up cpu cycles ergo negatively affecting performance - I understand you can only test so many configuration, I've been there myself so I sympathize. On the other hand however, I have dozens of resource-demanding applications that run seamlessly(even mostly cpu-bound programs), even when I have several background tasks running, and BB is the only one that runs poorly ... literally.  Without benchmarking, I'd have to guess it runs between 15-30 fps, and gets a bit hung up upon changing screens and moving around swiftly.

I'm one of those guys that turns off Windows services I don't need, and tweaks the system to get some better performance.  I have done that, but to be honest, these days, at least on my system, I don't see too much of a difference - normally only in startup time, as most less-common services seem to be set to manual or auto-triggered already anyway.

I don't even use LB/BB anymore, because it's such a nuisance.  I love the program, but starting to regret my purchase to be honest. I have games that have higher required specs, that run better on my quad core 1.8 Ghz laptop running Ubuntu 15.10.  Doesn't seem right.

I've got the same hardware configuration as you, except I have a Nvidia 780ti. At present my library sits around 29k and similar to Brad, I experience some micro stutters but that's about it. I forget what program it was several months ago that conflicted with LB. Jason had to email the company to rectify the problem, maybe it could be something like that, although you do say you did a clean install. Maybe it's something hardware related, who knows? Just flicking through the last couple of pages I see AMD cards being mentioned quite a bit, perhaps an AMD issue?

I hope you don't give up on LB/BB but it seems a rather frustrating situation for you.

  4. This is really strange then, because when I view these logos in explorer they do not have a checkered background?

Just a white background with the black artwork, and when viewed in Launchbox just the black writing is visible, however as I mentioned above, change the colour of the black text and a white border appears. I'll post some images so you can see what I mean, and will checkout paint.net tomorrow.

    Thanks Bizzar721

  5. I was trying to decide where to post this because it is both theme and media related and I decided on here. I absolutely love the latest theme by CriticalCid and have no problems with it, but came across and issue that I'm having problems dealing with. There maybe an easy fix or not I just don't know, but I'm hoping you guys can help out.

Anyway, I've just imported some spectrum roms and had grabbed a rather nice collection of clear logos from the Hyperspin ftp for the games I had imported and unfortunately a number of then are in black writing and with the green background used in the theme, you can barely see the logos. I thought it was just a question of opening up the basic paint program in windows and changing the logo by using the fill function. Doing so however seems to change the text but the clear logo is not a clear logo anymore, so I get a big white rectangle around the altered text. I really like the theme as it is with the green swirling and fading background and don't really want to get rid of it if it is possible.

I guess there are two things that could rectify this, one being a correctly edited image that has a brighter colour and a transparent background or if the scroll area where the logos pass through is not transparent. The later I'd imagine would take a bit more work and if I'm honest I kinda like the transparency.

Can anyone give me some help/suggestions on how best to sort this...

    Thank guys

  6. So are your games just labelled with the ID numbers or are they in a folder that has the full game name. If that is the case you can select use folder names when importing. That not what it says word for word but it's something like that.

I don't know how the LB database will react to I'd numbers? Best to just import one file and see if the database picks it up.

  7. Just a simple question...... You can select what is displayed in Big box, carts, boxes, disks etc  I was wondering if you can configure what's displayed per platform, for example displaying 3D boxes in say PS1 and say carts for SNES. I've not fully explored LB/BB fully in this regard, but as far as I can see your settings are universal an apply to all platforms.

  8. I've had my MAME set imported for a while and finally got around to playing some games rather than tweaking  my LB setup, which seems to be my past time now :)

Anyway, my first trip down memory lane was to locate Pacland and play that to death before going on to other things. Unfortunately it wasn't there so I figured one of my selections during my import had stopped this particular game from being imported. I had 1600 games after the import which was quite a bit less that some of the guys on here who were left with 2800 which I was aiming for. Anyhoo I thought I'd add that single game and no matter what `I seemed to select, e.g. Region, type of games etc, I couldn't seem to add the game.

I seem to remember that someone had posted on the forums here, that they had the same problem importing certain files, and I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this. I know it's rather trivial and just one game but if anyone has this in there list and can remember exactly what they selected during the import process and what they omitted I would be very greatful for the help.

One other thing that I'd like to know is what systems are in the standard MAME rom set, can the Lightspeed app help me in this regard?

Also is Daphne and those retro American Lazer Games within the Mame rom collection?

    Cheers

  9. Capture.PNGI just started to add Taino type x to my system following brads tutorial and I see since the video was done all the games have been added to the LB database. So I've added the game.bat to the application path and the config.bat to the configuration application path, as instructed in the video. I then searched for metadata and an entry is there for the Tetris game used as an example in the video, but when I select it the configuration application path disappears and becomes greyed out and where it used to say application path it still has the game.bat path but it is now saying  ROM File (emulation is enabled)

Considering this is totally different to what's in the video I wanted to hold off and get some feedback

  10. jaythompson helped me a lot with Future Pinball and as you will see from the post above you originally had to add the following info in the command prompt section of every table      /open "Drive Letter:\full path\table_name.fpt" /play /exit

I have 700+ tables so it a was a bit of a Herculean task, but thanks to jaythompson you don't have to do that anymore. I've not tried it yet because I'm working on other things.

DOS76 is right, Retroarch will make things much easier and I have many systems using it and it is a joy to use. Brads videos are also very helpful and I myself have used many of them to help me get up and running.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought at present that Naomi emulation through Demul is broken at present?

I'm happy to report that the %romfile% works for the purposes of loading multi-disk Atari ST games in Steem.

Similarly to @lordmonkus's Daphne example, it's not exactly just "click a button and you're done" but it's an option that didn't exist previously so that's great!

In order to instruct Steem to insert the first disk into drive A and the second into drive B via command line, the rom files have to be listed in order so you choose the first disk as your rom through LB:

Atari ST Multidisk - 1.jpgThen you add in the command line parameter and after %romfile% just include the path to the second disk:

Atari ST Multidisk - 2.jpgAnd voila:

Atari ST Multidisk - 3.jpgIt boots up properly and you can swap between the disks as necessary when prompted (via a combination of buttons on the controller if you assign them in the emulator's hotkeys).

    Thanks Jason!

I wondered if you have to import disk 2 of a multi disk game into Launchbox for this to work. So many duplicate images from multi disk games??

  12. Just a quick question.

When you install the 3.2.8 sse version of steem into the 3.2 original folder it over writes some files. However there is a steem.exe and a Steem SSE 3.8.2.exe. Can I delete the steem.exe because today steem said ther was an update which I did and it seemed to revert me back to the original 3.2, so can I delete the steem.exe and the steemupdate.exe without any adverse effect to the program?Capture.PNG

  13. IMG_0005.JPGI was wondering if you could do a clear logo for me on this image, although I'm not sure if my copy and paste from my original post transferred the image in it's correct size?

Check out the following post for the original image

No rush! If you can help out you efforts would be much appreciated

  14. Just going on past experiences it sounds like it could be your gpu that is developing a fault. I had something similar happen a while back, but this was before Launchbox. Of course it could be a number of things. Have you perhaps just updated your driver for your gpu? If so, roll back the driver, if not update the driver and see what happens. Like I said it could be a number of things and if it happening randomly on your PC out of LB, then it may well be the gpu

  15. Zombeaver you are the man!  Thanks for posting the screen shots, it's really helpful.

I must admit that sometimes you get a situation where you launch an emulator and with a lack of documentation in certain cases, you look at the settings menu and think YIKES! So I'll say again, thanks and that I appreciate the images....

  16. Is there a good app out there that can rename roms as well as load your roms and tell you what you have missing, that is universal and works with many current platforms?
