I have 2 MAME LaunchBox builds.  One for version .196 and another for .220.  I started off with just the .220 build and found that some roms didn't work, so then I created the .196 build.  When I get a high score on the .220 build it gets uploaded to the Leader boards but on the .196 build it doesn't.  The score from the game is created in the "hi" folder but never gets read and uploaded by LaunchBox.  Everything is configured correctly in the .196 build.  Does anyone have any insight as to why this isn't working?

Is this a high score for the same game from the .220 build that is not getting uploaded? Or are you saying high scores for any game in the .196 build do not get uploaded?

    Hey guys,

I have a question about the pause screen, I have LB/BB hooked up to an Xtension control pad.  When I press the pause button it used to pause the game, and show like resume, save state, load state, and maybe exit.  However, whenever I press pause now, it just dims the screen but doesn't bring up the features like save/load.  I don't know what changed it.  It used to just work with mame, but now it doesn't work at all.  I have all the pause features clicked in LB, but it's not working.  Thank you for the help!

Is it just Mame this affects or other platforms as well? Did you try a different theme to eliminate it being a theme issue?

    Hi guys,

I have been having an issue getting saves to work when I launch Arcade games in Launchbox/Bigbox running in Mame. Initially I thought it might be a pause screen automation issue but even trying to save state by using Shift-F7 on a keyboard won't work properly. I've done a bunch of testing - here's what I've come up with:

    • Rom launched directly in Mame - Save states work
    • Launched into Mame (double click or press Play) in Launchbox/Bigbox with Mame as default emulator - Save states don't work
    • Launched into Mame (right-click and select Play version) in Launchbox/Bigbox with Mame as default emulator - Save states don't work
    • Launched into Mame (right-click and select Launch with Mame) in Launchbox/Bigbox with Mame as default emulator - Save states don't work
    • Launched into Mame (right-click and select Launch with Mame) in Launchbox/Bigbox with Mame NOT default emulator - Save states work

All of the scenarios above that don't work give the error message of Error: Failed to open file for save operation - almost as though it can't see the sta folder or something?

Anyone have any ideas? I'm a bit stumped.

Are you using the new high score function in LaunchBox? If so, save state do not work with that function. They are disabled as a way to eliminate some cheating on high scores.

I have a setup where I have a small LCD monitor on top of a CRT TV. I use the LCD monitor for BigBox and then the game launches to the CRT. Everything works great, except I would love to keep the second screen showing something while gaming, like a marquee, or game info, or even cycling through a list of games. I've tried a couple different options, something about a 2nd screen marquee which I thought would be it, but the screen just goes black until the game over screen activates. I tried searching but I'm not having any luck. I'm guessing this is a very simple option I'm missing though. Thanks for the help!

BigBox does not have a setting that allows flipping back and forth between 2 screens once a game is launched to keep something displayed on both screens. You can set main screen and a marquee screen. What ever you set as the marquee screen will stay the marquee screen. So in your case LCD is main screen (since that is what you said displays BigBox) and CRT is marquee. Once the game is started and whatever program you are using switches the game to the CRT, BigBox still sees the CRT as the marquee.

thanks for a reply and better clarity on your HQ, its appreciated Retro808.

I have 46 system wheels, all bonefide systems not these playlist system (capcom classics etc). Total of 13,000 games. 3TB drive, ryzen 5 2400G, 8GB 3000mhz ram, win 10.

LB/BB have experienced memory leaks issues and Jason has fixed them in the past and always looks to fix them. For your issue in BB crashing after being left in attract mode what theme or themes are you using? I have a similar issue with 2 of my cabinets the other 2 do not have it. So it is a pretty odd issue for me.

    PLZ HELP!!!!

This means unfortunatley you are either using a pirated license or one that has been known to have been shared amongst users. You will need to purchase a legitimate licenses. If you feel this is an error please email the license information to support@unbrokensoftware.com.

Aha so does this mean that those "certain view for platform and game level. " is theme specific so each theme will have its own game and platform view?? or will it be a default for any theme i choose?

    Thnx

No it is not theme specific. You can set say Platform lists to Wheel view and then Game list to Text view. However, if you change themes the new theme retains those views. That is exactly what I was advising of.

So I did as you said and left it to run for a few minutes and it definitely does calm down. CPU usage drops to about 2% down from 98% and RAM usage is about 3gb. Startup though seems very demanding on the CPU with usage going up to 99%. I hope this gets better with time and perhaps it's something to be looked at for 10.15.

If after that cache gets built you still have high usage after subsequent starts there could be something else going on. Do you have a lot of auto-populated playlists?

big box absolutely has a Ram issue.. I had a recent post about this which has gone on deaf ears. the only way to not return after a few hours of my machine crashing out to desk top is by changing attract mode to not change systems, and start after 5 minutes, plus change after 40 seconds.. Doing that it stays on (like hyperspin did fine)

It may not have fallen on deaf ears. There are only 2 developers working on this so it is not like we have a big team that can focus on every issue. C-Beatsmay be trying to figure out what is up from your post. Different themes have been found to cause memory leaks so it could be a theme issue. Not saying that is your cause, but have you tested different themes. I recently let a member know some themes were causing attract mode to lock up and BB become unusable so he is taking a look at it to see what needs updating.

How do I do that without reverting to a prior state? I am adding roms all the time, so dont want to revert to a previous state if posssible

Just go in your updates folder and run the installer last stable version you have in there.

Would really like to know if views (platform and games) can be set up per theme, not that if i change the themes back and forth and then each time changing the views again back to those that fit best for specific theme, again?

I would really like to switch seamlessly fluently between themes, without extra steps (such as changing the games and platforms "list views" for the theme to look good)

Thnx for any kind of useful suggestions regarding this

I hope I understand what you are asking. There is no current way to set each theme to use certain views so that way when you change to that theme it has the views you prefer for it. You can only set BigBox to a certain view for platform and game level. If you change the theme it uses that current setting.

I want to launch a PC game.exe to start full screen when i start it via LB. The game doesn't have these options, the only way to go full screen is by ALT + Enter on keyboard. Is there a way for LB to start the game full screen? Maybe by setting a delay of 1 or 2 seconds then after the initial launch ALT + Enter command under "Application Command-Line Parameters"?

    Thank you kindly

You can compile an AHK to run the exe then send Alt+Enter. After you compile it just point LB to that instead of the game’s exe.

When I get back to the house I can send you an example.

Thank you for your help.  They are no longer working when I try to load from Launchbox.  II don't understand because nothing has changed on this system except for the usual updates to Launchbox.

I will try to to run direct thru Mame...been so long I'll have to refresh my memory!  :)

Just open the mame exe and select a game from within the UI.

Prior to the version of LB you are  on now what was the previous version?

Correct, I have two emulators for Mame and generally run all of these roms on Mame138 with no issues.  Thank you for your help.

It is not clear if you are saying they will not run directly in the emulator anymore or if you are saying they will not run when you try to open through Launchbox using different mame versions.

If you open the games directly in Mame do they still run?

If they still run directly in Mame and just will not run in Launchbox it could be because you are using such and old mame version. If you go to >Tools>Manage Emulators and edit your mame set up you will need to delete the line below from the default command line box.

That leads me to my second problem.... I can only change settings in the Input Bindings XML. If i do it in BigBox it does not register any Input from The Joystick. (Maybe i should've started with that!)

Under "Controller" setting in BigBox did you tick the box for "Enable Game Controllers"

Also make sure you select your controller under the "Device" option.

  15. 10 minutes ago, legion411 said:

Here's the input binding i'm using if that's what you mean?

    <InputBinding>

    <InputAction>BigBoxExitGame</InputAction>

    <ControllerHoldBinding>Button8</ControllerHoldBinding>

    <ControllerBinding>Button7</ControllerBinding>

    </InputBinding>

That's probably right but I never really looked inside the InputBindings.xaml and the input inside BigBox menu is named differently. In BigBox if you go to your controller automation setting just make sure you bound the option named "Close Active Window".

If that is what you bound try clearing the bindings and redoing them

    Hello All,

I've noticed that during the launch of a game, the background is not fit to the screen.  Am hoping this is a simple matter of defining the resolution to the application in a configuration file somewhere or something.  Screenshot attached.

This is happening because the background image is looking for Fanart - Background image and since that game you are showing does not seem to have an image for that it is using your priority fallback which looks like a box image. The image is stretched uniformly to fill the space. The startup theme's code is likely using a Stretch="UniformToFill" command. You can change it to read Stretch="Unifrom" which would leave you with just a box image in the middle of the screen. That could also affect if a background image fills the whole screen or not.

    Hello All

I have an issue in BigBox where non of my keyboard automations or key joystick combo to exit an emulator are working. I guess both these functions rely on AHK to be running in the background, but it's not running.

All joystick controls within BigBox work ok

If i try running AHK from c:\users\USERNAME\LaunchBox\ThirdParty\AutoHotKey\ i get an error "Script File Not Found" How do i get AHK back to it's original state?

    Ver 10.14

AHK does not need to run in the background. So the keys/buttons you mapped are no longer exiting games? What command are you mapping to (Exit or Close Active Window)?

Ahhhh interesting!! Thanks! I did pay for the premium version. So it's a theme I'd have to use in order to have that pause menu? Or is it a setting available for every theme?

You would need to activate pause themes. But all pause themes that are created have that menu option. There is a global setting in both LB and BB. Then you can also turn it on or off per emulator from the manage emulator options. Some emulators may need a setting tweak to get it to work properly.

Thanks, Retro808 , but my response was to Drodrick's response saying there was a way to view the manuals in-game. I know how to view the manuals within LB and BB. I'd like to know how to view them during gameplay.  When you said "Pause Theme", are you saying there's a pause feature that allows you to view them? I'm lost on that part because when I pause a game, there are no menus that pop up.

Yes, that's what Drodrick's respones was eluding to. LB/BB Pause Theme feature allows you to pause a game and a menu gives you access to the manual. It is a premium feature so if you are on the free version that may be why you do not see it.

    How?

Just right click a game in LB and you will see the context menu item for View Manual. In BigBox there is an option to view manuals in the game detail screen. As well as the Pause Theme feature allows you to view manuals from there.

  21. PJ64 returns to full screen from pause for me so I wonder why it does not for you. Do you have PJ64 option set to Enter Full Screen Mode when loading rom ticked? I assume yes since it runs full screen, but just wanting to confirm.

In the Pause Screen tab when you go to Tools>Manage Emulators and edit PJ64 there is a tab for "On Resume". In that tab you could likely set an AHK to send a command to set the emulator back to fullscreen. You can probably try one of these two (they do the same thing). I am not an AHK expert. We have a couple forum members that know a ton about AHK. Maybe they can chime in with a better way to write the AHK.

I'm having an issue with adding my own box art.  For Madden 2004, 2005, 06, 07, 08, and MLB 2K7 for PS2, there is no box art available.  I tried to add my own under LaunchBox>Images>Sony Playstation 2> Box - Front (for Madden 08), but it doesn't show up in the application.  Weirdly, however, if I select "3D Boxes" under "Image Group," it shows up.  But, it looks out of place since all of the other boxes are 3D and this one is just the front.

Make sure the image file is named exactly as the game is named in Launchbox. If it is and it still does not show right click the game and choose Refresh Images.
