@neil9000: Good tip, I will try that!

@Retro808: I tried standard Mame and MameUI, and just gave Arcade64 a go. Version number for all of them are 201 to match the Romset. All work fine directly through Mame, but not through Launchbox.

But which version were you originally using?

Make sure in the folder where your Mame.exe is you see the Mame.ini file. If not look in the ini folder for it and try copying it and pasting into the main folder where the exe is. I can replicate this exact error if the ini file is in the sub folder called ini. This is with MAmeUI and Arcade64. command line Mame not an issue as it stores the ini once generated in the main folder.

The pic below is just now from removing that ini from the main folder.

I appreciate the answer, but that does not make any sense.

    1. Everything was working fine before Launchbox was updated. The romset was running with a version of Mame for that specific romset and had worked fine.

    2. I updated to a new romset, got the matching version of Mame and have everything working without any problems on another PC. It also works fine if I run the rom directly through Mame  on the arcade-machine, but not when it is set up through Launchbox.

    3. The error specifically says that Mame is looking for roms within another version of the rom-folder.

Using 1941 as an example, normally Mame would look for files inside the 1941.zip folder. The error message I get here, says that it is looking for the files inside a folder called 1941, within the 1941.zip folder beforee looking for the files.

Can the Launchbox-standard command prompt for Mame-emulators be at fault?

Are you using MameUI orArcade64 by any chance? Also what version # is your Mame? I have seen that error with older versions of those two emulators.

Nobody?  Really?  Oh, man this sucks.  I have tried it on 2 separate computers with the same result.  Man, I am bummed :(

Small community and we really only have a few regulars who have coding knowledge and theme building knowledge. So it may be slow to get solid answers. A good spot to post and read is this thread

    Thanks Retro808!  That fixed it!

Glad you are sorted. Keep in mind the new Startup and Pause screen options can be adjusted per emulator and per game which is useful for things like Windows game. Take a look at the options in Startup and Pause settings as you may need to adjust them per emulator/game to get them to work properly. Or you may need to turn it off if it just will not work.

I used import wizard option to import games from windows and gog.com,  the games that are imported with .ink extension do not launch and make launchbox or bigbox to crash to desktop without a error message.

If i change the aplication path to point to the .exe file the game launch without problems,

This is annoying, and make the import wizard pointless, because i have to change every game manualy to point the exe file.

How many games do this? I have a bunch of gog and windows games imported by .lnk and work fine. What are some games  your are experiencing this with?

ok, so me and my brother have been putting together an arcade cabinet running launchbox/bigbox, and everything seems to be working fine, for the most part. i got a couple questions

a couple of his games require steam to be open for the controllers to work, mostly epic games junk, controllers dont like to play nice with them, and after fighting with the danged thing for a week it turns out adding the game to steam, and launching it through steam enables the controllers to work. so im wondering, is their a way to have LB/BB open a non steam game, through steam?

im also getting fed up with the Xarcade he's using in the cabinet and want to go the route of using a USB encoder for the buttons, but im having a hard time finding one that supports Xinput, does anybody know where, or how i can get a usb encoder that basically acts as an xbox 360 controller? ive tried using x360ce to emulate dinput-xinput but the software is buggy and broken.

    any help would be appreciated.

I cannot answer the Non-Steam through Steam question as I do not use Steam.

The Xarcade piece though I can. You can actually buy a new encoder from Xarcade that allows their controller to be switched between d-input and x-input. It is a simple swap out and your are up and running.

I've done more testing and it seems that there are certain games that will cause LB not to import anything but the problem games. If I deselect the problem games and only import  the missing games, they import fine. So as long as I don't try to import Ikaruga, Radirgy, Slashout or Spawn, everything else imports fine. I can then import those problem games separately without issue. It's the strangest thing.

I just tested importing those same games and had no issues even with them imported with about 200 other rom files. I do notice something though. Those game names are the exact way the zipped rom file is named for Mame. Any chance you have the zipped rom file imported into an Arcade platform somewhere?

Hey how is this coming along, this would be great to get this working. I'm no coder at all but I do have a good collection of marquee artwork to share!

I have it working with just static images and clear logos. Trying to figure out prioritization to see if I can get it to first show the marquee image if one exists in the marquee folder and then if not, fallback to the static image and clear logo.

    Hey everybody,

I'm getting FFJ set up with the wrapper exe that allows bezel and setting adjustments.  Problem in having is launching with launchbox, it works fine if I launch it with the exe outside of launchbox.  When I launch inside launchbox the wrapper loads the bezels and the game but the game is never in focus and is a black screen in the middle of the bezel until I mouse click it.  From my understanding the wrapper launches then pauses to launch the game then resumes after game launch.  So how can I get refocus on the game after everything is launched?

    Thanks for any help

Are you using the latest version of Launchbox that has Startup screen? If so, If you have Startup enabled try turning it off for that game and see if it helps. You can right click the game and edit then go to the Startup/Pause tab and choose override. Then make sure Startup is unchecked.

  10. If you have newer rom sets, especially those for Mame then naming is rarely an issue. That is the correct rom name for Samurai Shodown. Do not rename the rom. Looking at your pic those game names look correct as well. You can bulk edit them by CTRL+ Click all the games with missing images and then choose >Tools >Download Media and metadata to get missing media.

  11. @drewjbx I might have something working on this. Jason gave me some direction and so far so good. Not exactly as you mentioned, showing the marquee if one exists and if not show the static image then clear logo over it.

I am testing it now and it does show a static image and then the clear logo scrolls with each game. Not promising anything as I am a novice at this coding stuff, but I do use a marquee so this is something I am interested in.

How did you add the controls image? Is there a way to have it show that image, but fallback on another image type if the controls aren't available?

Jason did add it to the default theme. He created a specific arcade.xaml so non arcade system will point to box image and arcade system will point to the Arcade Control image Path. I just edited the theme to alter the look a little and make the image larger.

Basically you just need to have a theme point to that folder in the code.

Oh rite, I guess that makes sense... that was pointless then haha ?

Not pointless. Many users do not know to adjust that timing. So it is helpful to show people adjusting it can affect the performance of the feature.

Which resolution do you use out of interest? I have tried using some higher resolutions in the past, but have had issues when loading on different computers with different screen sizes. i wonder if there is then an option where it solves both issues for me?

I tested on one cabinet that is only 1920x1080. I used only that specific pc resolution and I don't make mine portable so each emulator setting is set for the cabinet/pc it is in.

Also are you saying I have outdated software? I didnt know, where did you get an updated version of ePSXe?

Just go direct to ePSXe website. The latest version should be v2.0.5 and the settings menu did not look like in your images. So I went to a prior version and it matched.

Here are my settings. The reason I have these settings is to aim to make these settings as portable as possible.

Also in regards to the timing thing, I had no idea, thanks ill take a look ?

Looks like it is that 1280x780 resolution. I had to go back to older versions of these 2 emulators as those settings are different in the latest version I am using. When I use that 1280x720 I get the scaling issue.

Just tried all that now and still no joy. I do wonder what it is? I thought maybe it was my portable HDD latency, but even copied my entire launchbox system onto my C drive and still the same thing. It even did this on my friends PC which is pretty capable. Are you on the latest launchbox out of interest? 9.9? maybe its a bug??

I am on latest version and a machine on latest beta. It is something that has been reported in prior versions. For many users shutting of the startup sound got rid of it. It has not really been posted about for a while now.

    I will tag @Jason Carr

    Startup Screens:

ePSXe: shows, but becasue of the rescaling of the screen in the emulator, it also rescales the startup screen? Also a brief flash of appears on exite before end screen.

Dolphin: shows but becasue of the rescaling of the screen in the emulator, it also rescales the startup screen?

What graphic settings in these emulators are you using? I do not get any Startup screen rescalling in either and I think this is the first mention. So would be god to try and test with the settings you are using.

Mesen: seems to work perfectly, but game has already loaded slightly into startup video of the game, before startupscreen disappears.

PPSSPP: seems to work perfectly, but game has already loaded slightly into startup video of the game, before startupscreen disappears.

Project64: seems to work almost perfectly, but game has already loaded slightly into startup video of the game, before startupscreen disappears. Only issue is the screen breifly flashes (presumably when the emulator loads in the background), the game noise starts and then the startup screen disapeears.

Snes9x: seems to work perfectly, but game has already loaded slightly into startup video of the game, before startupscreen disappears.

Retroarch: Seems to work perfectly on genesis-plus-core, but loads into the game startup video on the mednafen-saturn core, before the startup screen disapears

In each emulator setting in Launchbox you can adjust the emulator load delay. Some may need custom tweaking to get right. Try adjusting the load delay in the Startup tab for each of these emulators. The only one I do not use is Mesen. All the others I have been able to get adjusted to a smooth transition.

  18. Yeah that issue I can replicate if I have the startup sound on in my settings. Turning it off I get no stutter. Which I why I have not used it in years. Not sure why turning it off had no affect on your system. I also have all transitions set to none in my settings as personally I do not care for how the video/image shows up on screen. It could be a transition from the theme?? Maybe try turning them off and see if it changes. It definitely appears to occur only at a point the video ends and BigBox starts to load up the initial view.

  19. Do you have your default view in BigBox set to something different like Playlists or something? If it is showing in LB it should show in BB.

Can you share a pic of how your platform pane looks in Launchbox (the left side that shows all the platforms). Make sure Teknoparrot is visible. Also in LB right click on the platform and edit then show a pic of the parents tab. Ne sure to expand the piece where Teknoparrot is showing. Would be good to see how it is showing in your system.

I have it listed in LB under Aracde Platform Category, in Platform:  Teknoparrot arcade, even downloaded a video for it (generic arcade one for now) with the download platforms option, but when I browse BigBox it's not there. How can I fix this? Thanks in advance?

So you added a new platform called "Teknoparrot Arcade" and added it to show up under platform category of "Arcade" correct? It does not show in BigBox, but does it show in Launchbox?

Have you added games to it yet?
