  1. Thanks for the reply. It seems strange that the file upload process wouldn't inform the user that "the file is too large, please try a smaller file size," and instead read "success." The file I had uploaded before was only a bit smaller, unless new restrictions have since been implemented. The website appears to accept the file totally fine but somehow manages to corrupt the file. I usually remove any previous versions on my end but maybe older versions need to also be removed by an admin?

  2. I am attempting to upload a new version of my Dungeons & Dragons Manuals & Modules Platform pack. The LaunchBox file upload process keeps somehow damaging a perfectly good working archive file when uploaded, even though the result shows success and the uploaded file is the proper size. I had no idea the archive was damaged until someone informed me that files were missing. I downloaded the file myself and found it to have a premature end-of-archive error. The file is rather large (~5.9GB) but I've uploaded large files before without issue. I changed the file type from ZIP to RAR and shortened the filename so I am testing now to see if that helps. My network is fast and the connection is stable so I am not sure why this keeps happening. I'd rather not break the file up into individual pieces so is there something I can do to ensure a properly working archive gets uploaded?

Also, is there a faster way to upload a file? It takes around 90 minutes to upload this file.
    Thanks!

VERSION 3.0.0 IS OUT!  From all the excitement surrounding the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie, I thought it would be prudent to celebrate with the latest Dungeons & Dragons Manuals & Modules release. With the addition of new LaunchBox functionality, such as box spines, icons, filters, and custom fields, an enormous amount of data, images, and information was added to the Dungeons & Dragon Manuals & Modules Platform. There is so much new content, I'll need to roll a successful intelligence check to remember what was added/changed.

    1.  Box Spines: 214 new Box - Spine left-sided images created for all boxed sets, all hardcovers books, and several soft cover products.
      1. These allow 214 of the 960 images to be viewed using LaunchBox's new 360-degree image viewer.
      2. Softcover and module spine images will be included in a later release as it will take several months to find and Photoshop the 300+ spine images.
    2.  22 Playlist Icons added. These new icons can be viewed in the LaunchBox left-hand playlist menu.
    3. 218 (whew!) updated Box - 3D images.
      1. Many softcover books now better represent the proper page-count and thickness of the original printed manuals.
      2. Dragon Magazines, around a dozen boxed sets, and several softcover manuals had their images completely refurbished from higher resolution photos, better preserved products, and include proper rear covers.
      3. Several images have been redesigned with new 3D models (see #7 below).
    4. 28 updated Box - Front images with much sharper and richer artwork.
    5. 18 updated Box - Back images with much sharper and richer artwork.
    6. 7 new custom fields that make searching/filtering for a product or series much easier. These new data fields expand not only the knowledge base of the original products but aid with historical preservation as well.
      1. Author: Usually 1 or more of the main contributors to the book, manual, module, or accessory.
      2. Category: Accessory, Adventure, Campaign Setting, Board Game, Core Rules, or Sourcebook. Values assigned to various items will likely change a bit in the future, as more data becomes available.
      3. Format: Hardcover, Softcover, Module, Boxed Set, Folding Cardstock, Leatherbound Book, et al.
      4. Pages: This helped greatly with redesigning many 3D images to better represent the book thickness of softcover manuals.
      5. Rule Set: Original D&D, AD&D 1st Edition, AD&D 2nd Edition, Basic, Expert, Companion, Master, Immortal, RPGA, Saga System, etc.
      6. Setting: Forgotten Realms, DragonLance, Ravenloft, Planescape, Lankhmar, Spelljammer, Greyhawk, Mystara, Birthright, et al.
      7. Year: Release Year of the product. This makes for a pleasurable and informative year-by-year journey though D&D history.
    7. 2 new types of 3D image designs:
      1. Folding Cardstock: Used to display products such as Dungeon Master's Screens.
      2. Leatherbound Books: Used for the 4 Encyclopedia Magica manuals (I love these!!!).
    8. Updates to some playlists to better represent a particular game setting.
    9. Updates to several filenames to better represent the product titles.
    10. Updates to game notes when errors or misspellings were found.

I hope you're as excited to download version 3.0.0 of the D&D M&M Platform as I was to release it. This latest update is the culmination of months of data and image editing, while the entire platform is an avocation that I've been working on since 2018. You can simply extract the archive file to the directory where you have your LaunchBox directory installed. You may want to delete the D&D Images folder, if you have one already installed, to make sure you see the latest images and filenames, before extracting but it's not necessary. If I forgot to include anything, I will upload minor version updates, once I discover them. There should be another major update in a few months.

Thanks so much to websites like RPGGeek, TSRArchive, DriveThruRPG, eBay, and Worthpoint which without these amazing sites, none of this would be possible. I must reiterate, however, that NO PDFs or Software are included with this platform. This is 100% for the preservation, enjoyment, and appreciation of the mythology, artwork, and universe that is D&D.

Please let me know if you encounter any issues during setup. The XML file path for all items is set to Z:/ but I can help if anyone wants to use a different absolute or relative path. Also, please make sure to backup your LaunchBox installation before making any big changes such a this. There are no LaunchBox core files included in this archive but it's always wise to have a backup plan just in case you're waylaid by any  dishonorable thieves or savage troglodytes. But most of all... roll a natural 20 and ENJOY!

  4. Sorry, just saw this. You have to use Rocket Launcher to help extract the archives then run the table programs. If you are not familiar with RocketLaucher, there is a bit of a learning curve. There are many tutorials and videos on YouTube on how to set up and use Rocket Launcher with LaunchBox. Look at this thread I started several years ago to get an idea about how to use RL to run zip archive: http://www.rlauncher.com/showthread.php?5162-Future-Pinball-launching-zip-files

Hi, i find collection complete of Future Pinabll from Archive, it's about 130 GB but games are in compressed file. It's necessary to extract all games ? Later i can use this video and logo automatically from launchbox ? have you Wheels version too ??

    Thanks.

I have all my Future Pinball tables launch from ZIP archives. You use the images and Videos as the artwork for LaunchBox. LaunchBox will launch the table once you set up the emulator.

@malarrya - Your reported background image should be resolved in this build. Please confirm.

Thanks,  @C-Beats Confirmed working! Background artwork now shows in the Default Theme playlist menus when no video is available and menu is set to PLATFORM WHEEL 1, 2, 3, or 4. Thanks to @Retro808, @C-Beats, and all others who helped solve this issue! The BigBox theme for the Dungeons & Dragons Platform looks fantastic now :)

I responded in your bitbucket ticket with some pics as well showing that the Default does in fact show fanart images when in the paltform wheel views you mentioned, but good to see @C-Beats posted here.

I tested on 4 machines and like C-Beats could not replicate the issue you are having. I made sure to use the same settings you mentioned.

Thanks, @Retro808 I really appreciate the help. I responded in the bitbucket ticket as well. I think the problem may reside with my D&D Platform. Perhaps I am not placing or naming images appropriately. I used your settings and still don't get the desired results. I do have a workaround by using other themes, using text playlist menus, or placing images in the video folder.

I'm not able to reproduce the problems you are having. Anyway you could throw your data folder into a zip file and PM it to me so I can verify your settings when I try to test?

Sure! I'll send it to you shortly.
One more thing I just tested... Placing an image in the VIDEOS/PLAYLISTS folder and renaming it to the same name as the playlist works. However, only 1 image can have the same name, unless the images have different file extensions.

I responded to that ticket, but will post here as well. The Default theme can show game fanart on the playlist wheel level. In BigBox image settings tick the option to allow "Use Random Game Image for Filters". Below is a pic of the Default theme showing game images when on the playlist wheel level.

I have figured out what's happening:

Setting the Platform List View IN VIEWS to PLATFORM WHEEL 1, 2, 3, OR 4 will not show any artwork from the PLAYLIST ARTWORK FOLDERS.
THIS IS BECAUSE THE PROGRAM IS ONLY LOOKING FOR VIDEOS IN THE PLAYLIST VIDEO FOLDER  AND NOT DEFAULTING TO PLAYLIST ARTWORK WHEN NO VIDEO IS AVAILABLE.

This may be a bug since setting the Playlist Menus to TEXT shows Playlist Artwork when no video is available but using CLEAR LOGOS for the playlist menu shows no playlist artwork.

I tested this theory by renaming a video to Forgotten Realms, placing it in the Videos/Playlists folder, and, sure enough, it shows the video when selecting the Forgotten Realms playlist.

Please let me know if you need more information.
    Thanks for your help!

  10. Thanks for looking into this. I've looked in the setting and see that this box has been checked this whole time yet it still shows no artwork in the playlists.
I tried putting artwork in other folders where Default theme may be looking but still nothing appears.

However, I started changing the theme menu styles and did find some success.
Using PLATFORM LIST VIEW: TEXT WITH DETAILS for the Playlists, the artwork WORKS!!!
    image.thumb.png.d481d8595f9c56dcded217b46ddf0508.png

    image.thumb.png.ec045205ce89e22e6f61f499295950ec.png

If I select a PLATFORM WHEEL # such as 3, the playlist background art doesn't come through.

    image.thumb.png.5946496e4cbb127e8cdc316af2d06a3c.png

So, apparently, the artwork isn’t working (for me anyways) when there are images (clear logos) used for the playlist wheel.

Maybe I need to completely wipe out the program and reinstall?

Thanks for your help into this matter. :)

We modified some of the logic to how Big Box grabs background images for Playlists in the current beta. You could try to update to that to see if it corrects the issue for you. If it doesn't please create a support ticket for this. This is the first time I've heard this exact report and would like to make sure it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Issue #6190 created. Let me know if you need any further information. Thanks!

  12. Forgot I posted this  over 2 years ago but, alas, there was no response :(  I suppose it's not possible for playlists to show FANART images when no video is present within the DEFAULT theme? I guess I am looking for a hybrid of the DEAFULT and CiriticalZone V2 Default themes (unless it's possible to simply edit the Default theme scripts to do this). :)

I'd like these playlists in the Default theme...
    image.thumb.png.3bde152087cd33c83adcd9dab0ff4f71.png

to show Fanart background images like this from the CriticalZone V2 theme...

  13. Version 2.0 of the D&D M&M Platform... now with 3D Images!
After months of searching through countless images on numerous websites then fabricating nearly 1000 new 3D images, I am finally proud to bring you Version 2.0 of the Dungeons & Dragons Manuals & Modules Launchbox Platform. It now has the following enhancements.

    1. 960 new 3D images all created by yours truly using Photoshop and a lot of time and learning.
      • The images may not be perfectly accurate, sized, or shaped renditions of the original book, box, accessory, or component but they are quite good representations.
      • Here on the LaunchBox forums is the only place you will find any 3D image collection of this magnitude of these original Dungeons & Dragons items. Nowhere else will have these!
      • Searching for box side art, photoshop mockups, and action files plus fabricating all of these was a massive undertaking that I began last March.
      • There will definitely be updates to images as I find better shots of side art, better PSD mockups, and better actions files.
    2. In addition to the 3D images, I fixed a few hundred 2D images by cropping, blending, or replacing distorted, truncated, or otherwise poor images.
    3. Resampled many images that were either too large or too small so the size of the image cache is now much smaller and more evenly distributed.
    4. The old image collection was quite large (~5.5 GB). The new collection is similar in size but contains over 960 more images.
    5. Minor description and filename fixes.
    6. Follow the directions below in order to install. You can basically bolt this pack on by placing the folders in the archive into the corresponding LaunchBox folders.

Fabricating these images was a massive undertaking which has, hopefully, help to preserve the beauty of TSR's artwork. In addition, the synopsis for each TSR item, from D&D's inception to the end of 2nd Edition, is included with each image. If you're a Dungeons & Dragons fan, whether casual or serious, I hope you will enjoy the D&D M&M platform. More importantly, if you have never much paid attention to the Dungeons & Dragons universe, I hope this platform will spark you interest. Please take a risk and install the platform if for no other reason than to enjoy the beautiful artwork.

With a new Dungeons & Dragons movie in the works, I am hoping this platform may introduce or refamiliarize you to the world of D&D, preparing you for the onslaught of D&D fiction that is surely to come.

The PDF files these images are associate with are NOT included with this platform. A simple Google search will return a TROVE of results. Please let me know your thoughts on this system and the images. The images will continue to be updated as I find better photos to work with. I really enjoy hearing from D&D fans that enjoy the game/artwork as much as I do.

NOTE: In addition to this LaunchBox Platform being a graphical way to launch your games/PDFs, this system is also for historical and educational preservation purposes.

    Hope you Enjoy!

  14. Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition - Manuals & Modules

    View File

After months of amassing the artwork, descriptions, playlists, and details, I have the first version of the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Launchbox Platform! The system contains artwork for around 486 PDF files and 14 Playlists detailing manuals, adventures, errata, character sheets, DM rewards, etc. for use in your 5th edition gaming sessions.

This is not a video game system but a PDF e-reader system for Dungeons & Dragon 5th Edition. THERE ARE NO D&D5E PDFs FOR DOWNLOAD, ONLY IMAGES AND DB FILES FOR USE WITH LAUNCHBOX! I will NOT provide you with PDFs or links to them. A simple Google search will return a "Trove" of results. If you already possess the PDF modules/books, this is simply an art-driven way to collect them all together and make it easy to find and launch for your D&D 5E gatherings.

Simply extract the RAR archive to the ..\Launchbox\ directory. Once the files have fully extracted, open LaunchBox. You should see the new D&D 5th Edition Platform, although it may need the Playlists reattached.

In order to get the playlists to show up under the 5th Edition Platform, you'll need to do one of the following:

    1. BACK UP ANY XML FILES BEFORE YOU EDIT THEM. I am not responsible for you damaging your playlists, parents, or platforms.
    2. WHILE INSIDE LaunchBox, set the left menu to PLAYLISTS. Right click on each D&D5E playlist and select EDIT. Click on the Parents Tab. Click the + next to the directory tree. Check the box next to D&D 5th Edition.
    3. (OPTIONAL) A bit faster way to do this for those that know how to edit XML code.
      1. CLOSE LAUNCHBOX.
      2. COPY the XML code from the included Parents-D&D5E.XML file and APPEND it into the PARENTS.XML file located in your ..\LaunchBox\Data\ folder. DO NOT OVERWRITE THE FILE OR YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR PARENTS.
      3. Re-open LaunchBox. If you were successful, you should see the Playlists under the D&D 5th Edition Platform.

To add the D&D 5th Edition Platform Description, You will need to do one of the following

    1. BACK UP ANY XML FILES BEFORE YOU EDIT THEM. I am not responsible for damaging your playlists, parents, or platforms.
    2. Inside LaunchBox, set the left menu to PLATFORM CATEGORY. Right-click on the D&D5E PLATFORM and select EDIT. Click on the NOTES Tab. PASTE in the following description from Wikipedia:

In January 2012, Wizards of the Coast announced that a new edition of the game, at the time referred to as D&D Next, was under development. In direct contrast to the previous editions of the game, D&D Next was developed partly via a public open playtest. An early build of the new edition debuted at the 2012 Dungeons & Dragons Experience event to about 500 fans. Public playtesting began on May 24, 2012, with the final playtest packet released on September 20, 2013.

The 5th edition's Basic Rules, a free PDF containing complete rules for play and a subset of the player and DM content from the core rulebooks, was released on July 3, 2014. The Starter Set was released on July 15, featuring a set of pre-generated characters, a set of instructions for basic play, and the adventure module Lost Mine of Phandelver. The Player's Handbook was released on August 19, 2014. The fifth edition Monster Manual was released on September 30, 2014. The Dungeon Master's Guide was released on December 9, 2014. The edition returns to having only three core rule books, with the Player’s Handbook containing most major races and classes.

Mechanically, 5th edition draws heavily on prior editions, while introducing some new mechanics intended to simplify and streamline play.

Skills, weapons, items, saving throws, and other things that characters are trained in now all use a single proficiency bonus that increases as character level increases. Multiple defense values have been removed, returning to a single defense value of armor class and using more traditional saving throws. Saving throws are reworked to be situational checks based on the six core abilities instead of generic d20 rolls. Feats are now optional features that can be taken instead of ability score increases and are reworked to be occasional major upgrades instead of frequent minor upgrades.

The "advantage/disadvantage" mechanic was introduced (and was inspired by the mechanics of the avenger class from 4th edition), streamlining conditional and situational modifiers to a simpler mechanic: rolling two d20s for a situation and taking the higher of the two for "advantage" and the lower of the two for "disadvantage" and canceling each other out when more than one apply.

The power system of 4th edition was replaced with more traditional class features that are gained as characters level. Clerics, druids, paladins, and wizards prepare known spells using a slightly modified version of the spell preparation system of previous editions. Healing Surges are replaced by Hit Dice, requiring a character to roll a hit die during a short rest instead of healing a flat rate of hit points.

    3. (OPTIONAL) A bit faster way to do this for those that know how to edit XML code.

      1. CLOSE LAUNCHBOX.
      2. COPY the Platforms-D&D5E.XML file and PASTE it OVER THE EXISTING D&D 5TH EDITION section in the Platforms.XML file located in your ..\LaunchBox\Data\ folder.
      3. If you don't see the platform in the XML, STOP what you are doing. You may not have extracted the Platform to the correct location or opened Launchbox since extraction.
      4. Re-open Launchbox.

If you own a copy of BigBox, open it up and view the D&D 5th Edition Platform. The Platform looks the best under the CriticalZoneV2 theme. There will certainly be future updates as I refine the platform more.

If you encounter any bugs or have trouble getting the platform to work, please let me know.

    Hope you enjoy!

  15. I see what's going on now. Under VIEWS - PLATFORM LIST VIEW, BigBox does the following:

    THEME: CritialZone V2 Default
    1. Platform Wheel 1 - NO Platform Video plays but Background Artwork shows for Playlists.
    2. Platform Wheel 2 - Platform Video plays in a square box but NO Background Artwork shows for Playlists (just a green glow).
    3. Platform Wheel 3 - Bigger square Platform Video plays but NO Background Artwork shows for Playlists (it's all black and empty).
    4. Platform Wheel 4 - Square Platform Video plays but NO Background Artwork shows for Playlists (just a green glow).
    5. Text List With Details - NO Platform Video plays but Full screen Background Artwork shows for Playlists.

    THEME: Default
    1. Platform Wheel 1 - Platform Video plays in FULLSCREEN but NO Background Artwork shows for Playlists.
    2. Platform Wheel 2 - Platform Video plays in FULLSCREEN but NO Background Artwork shows for Playlists (same look as #1).
    3. Platform Wheel 3 - Platform Video plays in FULLSCREEN but NO Background Artwork shows for Playlists (same look as #1).
    4. Platform Wheel 4 - Platform Video plays in FULLSCREEN but NO Background Artwork shows for Playlists (same look as #1).
    5. Text List With Details - Platform Video starts but then is instantly replaced with Clear Logo. This happens for all Platform Categories. Full screen Background Artwork shows for Playlists.

Is it possible to have the Platform Category Video play as well as have Playlists show background artwork with either of these themes?

  16. Visual Pinball - 300+ Clear Logos

    View File

Visual Pinball clear logos pack consisting of 300+ images collected and edited from sites like VPForums, Pinsimdb, Google image search, Hyperspin Forums, and other users' collections.

NOTE: These logos may be large and, in most cases, were originally intended for use with HyperPin and HyperSpin. They can be easily resized in HyperSpin and LaunchBox but BigBox apparently doesn't allow for resizing (that I can find). If you need smaller versions of the images, let me know and I will post an update.

TO VIEW THESE IMAGES DO THE FOLLOWING:
    1. Remove any images in your ..\LaunchBox\Images\Visual Pinball\Clear Logo folder
    2. Unzip the archive to the same folder.
    3. Delete your LaunchBox and/or BigBox cache.
    4. Set LB/BB to show Clear Logos for the Visual Pinball games.

This is really epic. Definitely a labor of love and much appreciated!

    Keep it up!

(Would love to check out any D&D playlists you come up with as well :))

Award yourself 1,500 xp. If this takes you up a level go ahead roll your additional HP and choose any new skills or spells as applicable.

This is very kind of you to say, thank you so much! Yes, this was quite labor intensive but I did have a good time putting it all together. Finding and using the GhostScript PDF image extraction program proved to be extremely useful and somewhat fun getting it to work as well as it did.

Please let know if you need any further information on how to set up the system so it appears like the images above.

There are around 18 playlists that I have already created for the system which are included in the downloads from my MEGA site. Image 4 & 7 in the original post shows some of the playlists with background artwork specific to that setting/campaign.  Playlists include following (LaunchBox and BigBox respectively):playlists.thumb.png.5c5b19ef969ff4d8a477c6c78a17e2ee.pngplaylists2.png

Again, thanks, I hope you enjoy and get some use out of it. I really mostly love the artwork and reading about all the classic monsters. :)

  18. Arcade Classics Windows 10 Desktop Theme

    View File

This is the ONLY Windows 10 Arcade Classics Desktop Theme available anywhere (that I could find)! :) I know this is not specifically LaunchBox related but it is retro-gaming related so I though I would share.

NOTE - YOU DO NOT NEED LAUNCHBOX TO USE THIS THEME.

I created this desktop theme for Windows 10 from 33 images and 30 wave files found around the internet and use them for my arcade cabinet. I take no credit for any of the images or sounds but thought I would share the theme in case anyone's interested. I put the Sound Scheme and Images together to create an ARCADE CLASSICS WINDOWS 10 DESKTOP THEME. Most images are 1920x1080 except for 2 that are a bit bigger and don't look that good scaled down.

IN ORDER TO GET THE SOUND SCHEME AND DESKTOP THEME TO WORK TOGETHER:
    1. Place the Arcade Classics Folder containing the WAV files into your %WINDIR%/media folder. Press WINDOW KEY + R then type in
    %WINDIR%/media to open the folder.

    2. Double-click on the ARCADE CLASSICS THEME file (Arcade Classics.deskthemepack). It should connect the sound scheme to the desktop theme.

I also included a VBS script that makes the desktop wallpaper rotate to the next random image and a shortcut to this script that makes it easy to double-click and run the script. You WILL NEED TO EDIT THE SHORTCUT depending on where you move the VBS script but I included it for completeness. Put the VB-SCRIPT wherever you'd like then edit the shourtcut to point to the vb-script. I have my script in my ../Hyperspin/ folder and the shortcut on my desktop but you can place it in your Launchbox directory or wherever you'd like.

Enjoy, and let me know in the comments below if you have any issues with the theme or what your favorite images are. I like Space Invaders, Star Wars, and Battle Zone the best.

Future Pinball clear logos pack consisting of 700 images painstakingly collected and edited from sites like VPForums, Pinsimdb, Google image search, Hyperspin Forums, and other users' collections. Many of these images are very high quality and most are as close to the table logos as possible. Some have been fabricated by me and others but this group contains tables that mostly have a corresponding video. This set was originally developed and posted by me for Hyperspin. Hope you enjoy.

NOTE: These logos are quite large, in most cases, as they were originally intended for use with HyperPin and HyperSpin. They can be easily resized in HyperSpin and LaunchBox but BigBox apparently doesn't allow for resizing (that I can find). If you need smaller versions of the images, let me know and I will post an update.

TO VIEW THESE IMAGES DO THE FOLLOWING:
    1. Remove any images in your ..\LaunchBox\Images\Future Pinball\Clear Logo folder
    2. Unzip the archive to the same folder.
    3. Delete your LaunchBox and/or BigBox cache.
    4. Set LB/BB to show Clear Logos for the Future Pinball games.
