  1. Just added the SHMUPS (PS1) Playlist.  It was a daunting task to find all those games, and I finally have a working set for all of them.  But, the problem was that I couldn't find them all in one place.  I had a little help finding some (Thank You).

I also did a bit of research on how to name bin/cue files properly, which you may have to do for some of these.

I also discovered that EBOOT.PBP files will work on Retroarch (I wish I knew that earlier, they are so easy to work with).  I recommend finding the EBOOT files first, if you can.

    Good Luck

  2. I still keep an eye out for Japanese games that I may have missed.  Sometimes I have a hard time with that because Japanese language with English lettering is inaccurate.  Something like 'Yoko' could be 'Youko' or 'Yokou', thus making it hard to search for it.  But, I did look for lists of games that are English friendly, or English translated (even better).

Right now, I'm watching Game Sack's 'Left in Japan' series to find more games that I might have missed.  Lots of great suggestions there.  Although, I'm having a hard time finding good ISOs for some of the Sega Saturn and Playstation games they mention.  Those take a lot of time to download, so it's been a slow process.  Generally, I've been sticking with 'Darkwater' dumps because they seem to work best.

Still looking for a decent dump for 'Harmful Park' for the PS1.  That game looks cool.

  3. I took a stab at it, Charco.  I'm still learning how to do this.  Got a few that I made for myself.  I might post a pack of random logos, soon.  Out_Run_2006_Coast_to_coast_logo.thumb.png.e2ad90e5fe36a09bb541aba560e3ff8b.png

  4. Hey guys, I also had this problem with my own lists.  I think that you may have to add the xml files before you run launchbox.  If launchbox is running, it won't recognize the xml files and deletes the unrecognized file when you exit.  Try it and let me know if I'm right.

  5. Run N Gun

    View File

317 Run N Gun style games (Split playlists for Arcade and consoles)

    The xml files:

Run N Gun (Arcade):       121 Games*

Run N Gun (Genesis):       54 Games

Run N Gun (NES):              66 Games

Run N Gun (SNES)             53 Games

Run N Gun (Turbo Grafx) 23 Games

*2 Games in the Arcade list, 'Dolphin Blue' and 'Metal Slug 6', require a Sammy Atomiswave emulator.  Try Demul.

Download the .xml files and place them in your LaunchBox\Data\Playlists directory.

    Some thoughts about these lists:

The Run N Gun category can have a few grey areas and can have a few matters of opinion.   Some lists I have seen are strictly 'Guns' only.  But I added a few that have other kinds of projectiles.  Some of the games on here are more 'Platformer' than they are 'Run N Gun'.  I was a bit skeptical about adding 'Mega Man' in these lists, and I'm not sure if they are proper Run N Gun games.  But he runs and he shoots, so I think that qualifies.  Also, a few games on here are hybrid games that are also on the SHMUPS lists.  Check out 'Rendering Ranger R2' for SNES/Super Famicom and 'Crossfire' for Genesis, for example.

    Have fun,

  6. There are two Spiderman/Venom games for Genesis and for Snes with the same titles.  I had a bit of trouble with the naming of the titles and launchbox id's, particularly for 'Separation Anxiety'.

For the Genesis game:  'Venom Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety' will get you the right Launchbox id, but 'Spider-Man and Venom - Separation Anxiety' will get you the mp4 from Emumovies.

I left it in the playlist with the latter, but I did not expect that you would get the SNES game instead.

So, I just changed it to the one that gets you the Launchbox id because I would rather you get the Genesis version of the game.  But ,unfortunately, this will still leave us with the problem with EmuMovies.

  7. Wii emulation isn't so friendly with arcade platforms.  MAME is a disaster on it.  Your best option is to use Final Burn Alpha cores through an old version of Retroarch.  Even still, it has problems.  I can run X-men (beat em up), for example, but the audio pitch is way off on the characters' voices.

But the nicest thing about the Wii emulation is using the WiiMote for light gun games like Terminator 2 and playing Superscope games on the SNES emulator works better than the real thing.  For more authenticity, I also have the Wii hooked up to a CRT.

  8. I am also on the fence about getting the an X-arcade Tank-stick.  But, I never really considered that there were 4-way sticks.  I'm using a 360 controller, atm.

I also use my Wii as an emulation device, and I really like using the Wii Pro controller.  The d-pad on those are way more accurate.  It's too easy to go diagonally on the 360 d-pad and causes a lot of mistakes.

But, what really is holding me back from buying the Tank Stick is that I still can't play Forgotten Worlds and Ikari Warriors accurately, either.  Both have unique controls.  Having a dial would be nice.  For games like that, I would think that a good control set-up would be like the controls for 'Tron', where you have a trigger button on the Joystick itself. Still, Ikari Warriors had a notched rotating stick, and maybe an analog dial would also make it inaccurate.  Dials are easy to find.  But I can't find rotating stick.  Best I found on the internet was a page showing me how to 'make' one.

  9. So, has anyone here played 'Rendering Ranger: R2' for the Super Famicom?  It's in the SNES playlist.  First of all, it is AWESOME!  I thoroughly enjoyed playing that game although it is very challenging.  But, I wanted to point out that it is a hybrid 'Run N Gun/Shmup'. It starts as a Run N Gun and then becomes a Shmup when you reach the third level.  It's on the list because the Shmup parts of the game are amazing (not to take away from the Run N Gun parts, they are equally as great).  Don't let the media video fool you.  It only shows you the beginning.  It's a great Shmup.  It was made by Germans, the same people who made the Turrican games.  But unfortunately, it was sold only in Japan and only 5000 copies were ever made, making it a very rare and very sought-after cartridge that goes around $3000+ (without a box) on ebay, INSANE!!!

No translations are required, it's already in English.  Try it out, that game is very well made.  You'll be surprised how good it is if you've never heard of it.

Oh, and I will be updating these lists soon.  I found more Shmups for Mame (about 50).  I will be adding playlists for some of the handhelds.  And, I recently figured out how to run Sega Naomi on Demul, and there are 18 more shmups that I found there.

    Have a blast!

  10. Beat 'Em Ups

    View File

266 Beat 'Em Ups (Split playlists for MAME and Consoles)

    The .xml files:
Beat Em Ups (Arcade):         133 Games for MAME
Beat Em Ups (NES):                 28 Games (17 NES + 2 Famicom)
Beat Em Ups (SNES):               60 Games (37 SNES + 18 Super Famicom)
    Beat Em Ups (Genesis):          45 Games (40 Genesis/Megadrive + 5 Sega CD)

Beat Em Ups (Turbo  Grafx): 22 Games

Download the .xml files and place them in your LaunchBox\Data\Playlists directory.

Issues with Metadata and Launchbox IDs:

'Avengers' (Arcade) is a vertical scrolling beat 'em up made by Capcom with no Launchbox ID.  Launchbox will default the Metadata and Media to 'Avengers In Galactic Storm'.  That is the wrong game.  The Mame rom filename is 'Avengers'.  Do not attach any Metadata,  title it exactly as 'Avengers' in the Edit Game window in Launchbox, and Emumovies should give you the proper media (although you may have to surf around to get a clear logo).

There's an arcade prototype game called 'Judge Dredd' made by Midway. It is a beat 'em up and has no launchbox ID.  This is confusing because there is a light gun game called 'Judge Dredd' made by Acclaim. The Mame rom file is 'jdreddp'.  Title it as 'jdreddp' in Launchbox, and Emumovies will give you the media for it. Hit ok and edit it again if you want to change the title without losing the media.  Just don't title it as 'Judge Dredd' or it will get mixed up with the other game.  I named it 'Judge Dredd Prototype'.

For the SNES list I added the Rushing Beat Series: 'Rushing Beat', 'Rushing Beat Ran: Fukusei Toshi', and 'Rushing Beat Shura'.  These are the Japanese but superior versions of Rival Turf, Brawl Brothers and The Peace Keepers, respectively.  No metadata for the Japanese versions and I'm still looking for some of the media.

'UFO Kamen Yakisoban' for the Super Famicom also has no launchbox ID, but there is media for it on Emumovies as long as it is titled exactly like I have it here.

    ............
It took about a week and a lot of research to put these lists together and I tried very hard to get every Beat 'Em Up for each platform.  But,  I was pretty strict about what made it on the lists.  There aren't any one-on-one 'Fighters' in these lists, that's a whole other category.  I also kept away from 'Hack n Slash' games which can be categorized as Action/Platformers.

Please let me know if there are any games that should be on these lists.  I'm sure I missed a few.

@MetalVinnie Its possibly that you have set the images for that particular platform/platforms to clear logos in LaunchBox see screenshot, you need to go into each platform in LaunchBox and see what images you are showing.  you click on your platform and on the toolbar right top click on image and set it to Box.

    Yep, that worked.

I still don't understand how I can't change the images through BigBox options.  But I'm happy for now.

    Thanks, Maddoc1007.
