Would still love a 'random game' function in Big Box. Honestly seems pretty surprising there isn't one already, since it's a built-in feature of the regular LaunchBox. I've been using the Random Game Selector plugin by Grila, but that doesn't work well with all views unfortunately. And the attract mode wheelspin feature isn't exactly random either, from what I can see. Especially when randomizing from a list of over 3000 games.

I second this guy above! ^^^

Mr Saunders, is that the plugin that adds "Random Game" to the options in BigBox and you have to go "back and forward" into it to get next game?

the additional dev time seem pretty wasteful compared to what else we could get done.

I get that, but "Random Game" in BigBox is just such a glaring omision in my opinion. It's just so basic. I'm sure many of us here could just sit for ages pressing "next random game". I know I do** You have all this complex stuff being added into LaunchBox all the time and this little basic thing will just get left behind.

**BTW. I have an old plugin DLL that was made by Grila, from quite a few years back. It adds Random Game to the BigBox Options menu. The downside is that you have to go "Forward and Back" into it everytime to go to next game. It still works in the latest LaunchBox. Again, it is just not as ideal as clicking "next game" or whatever but it's the best we got. I don't think it's up for download here anymore. If anyone wants a copy, and Grila is ok with it, I can send via PM.

OK, C-Beats, thanks for the swift reply! (Sorry if I sound like an ungrateful Karen, I don't mean to)

We don't have a "Select random game"

But why though? Is this hard to implement or something? This feature would be better than the myriad of other features added since LaunchBox' inception. Some of which are not very useful.

    Hello everyone,

I'm planning to set up Launchbox on my computer, and I'm wondering if it's better to install Launchbox on my SSD and keep the ROMs, images, and videos on my HDD, or if it doesn't matter if I install Launchbox on the HDD as well.

Any advice or experience on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Personally, I have LaunchBox and Assets (Box Art, Videos, Clear Logo etc) on an 2TB SSD and the ROMS on a HDD.

I used to have the whole lot on a HDD until just recently getting that 2TB SSD and it has made quite a difference in speed.

  5. I looked in my running processes in Windows Task Manager and noticed "LaunchBox.exe" -recovery" running alongside the main LaunchBox exe. I just wondered what this is and is it normal as I've never seen this before. Thanks in advance.

Sounds interesting!   I like the way ArcadeEIP does it best - where its loading the MAME roms and they're fully playable, then switches to another game.   I know this would be difficult for almost any other platform outside of MAME though.

GameEx used to do this with MAME, as a Screensaver. It was quite a cool feature but it was more of an Attract Mode really. I got to know plenty of MAME games this way that I otherwise wouldn't have booted up.

  7. I just want a very simple thing... and that is for BigBox to have an option in the Game Details to open a web search in the default browser based on the games name.

This would save me 100 million hours creating and importing .url shortcuts as Additional Apps for every individual game.

Just this sneaky little feature would make me so happy and save me a lot of time. I'm sure other users would like this feature too? My voice got drowned out in the last poll I participated in (2019 I think).

the slow part was always the video-snap file for games, the rest of the emumovies content wasn't too bad in terms of speed.

Yeah, like C-Beats said, the HD videos from EmuMovies will take a bit of time. They can weigh in around 60mb each.

The problem with EmuMovies / LaunchBox before this update, was getting the list of results from EmuMovies which could take minutes at a time.

  9. Well, I was doing a lot of MAME downloading last night after upgrading my ROM set from 0.149 to 0.233.

I did lots of single games and the speed has been great! The speed was painfully slow just two weeks ago when doing games singularly.

Latest LaunchBox version here and in the UK.

  10. I have about 100 different instances of GZDoom. Separate ones for each WAD.

Inside each folder, I have the shortcut file with the command lines and it's those shortcuts that I import into LaunchBox.

It's kinda cumbersome, and I'm sure I could save space by not having so many GZDoom's lol
