  1. You know how in a game you might unlock stuff like concept art, videos, etc?

What about a feature where you can do thank in Launchbox? I know it sounds silly with all the images LB can already download and show you, but I download all that stuff but never really look at it, besides box art and video snaps.

Now here is an example of how it would work. Say you are playing Super Mario Bros, and you have RetroAchievements linked to your emulator.

When you download all the images (it could be something someone put together here in the forums), LB will put stuff like Fan Art, Concept Art, in a seperate folder. You can obviously find that on your computer where ever you want, but once you achieve certain achievement milestones using RetroAchievements, you will see an 'unlocks' section in Big Box for that game.

There you can view the unlocked files. For example the game might have a concept art file for Level one of game, and once you get the achievement complete level one, Big Box will show you the files linked to that achievement.

I'm not a dev by any stretch, so I don't know if its possible, but its just an idea I had.

  2. This isn't a problem with PCSX2 from what I can tell, as it will launch the games properly if I run them from itself, but if I open through launchbox PCSX2 will say 'Requested filename '007 - agent under fire (usa)' (or what ever the game is) does not exist'

The games are in the same location. And again, if I tell the Emulator to run it from itself it will. I think maybe I need a command line parameters, but anything I enter there like -f -g will throw up an error in the emulator. I can go back to an old version if I need to, but I don't want to as the new versions have achievements and that is mainly what I am trying to test right now.

  3. Here are two I think are safe to share as the sound effects I used in the GOG are royalty free, and the video is from GOG. The Steam one is just a straight rip of the Steam Big Box intro. Unlike the other ones I'm making you can't insert a steam game into a system so I went for just loading screens as if they were a console. They work on the platform boot videos theme.

  4. For my Start up theme, I wanted just a video of a disk or cart being put into the system of choice. So I made some videos of that, however, all the videos have been taken online (so far all from Game Sack on Youtube but as I get to systems they haven't reviewed for I may need to branch out), I editted out the sound and added my own foley stuff. Legally I think its probably fair use, but is it okay to share on the forum here? Its basically just a hand putting in a cartridge or disk, turning on the system. Adds a little bit of immersion to the experience I feel as that feeling of popping in a cart is kind of lacking. Thoughts?

  5. I have a very specific setup and it works for everything except Origin and Windows UWP games.

I run bigbox through Steam using a PS4 controller. However, no matter what I do, if I launch Origin games in Steam or BigBox through Steam, it doesn't recognize the controls, even if I set them to full mouse and keyboard, it just doesn't grab the steam controller inputs.

I have disabled the Origin in-game overlay as I heard that helped others in the past, but it still doesn't work. I tried launching through Steam, it still doesn't work. I tried adding Origin, and the game that I am trying to launch to steam and put a full mouse and key board bindings on it and this didn't work.

If I launch the game the only inputs it accepts is a real mouse and keyboard , not a controller emulating a mouse and keyboard. I like to play on the couch which is why I like Big Box so much, so this makes playing Origin games impossible. Anyone have a work around?

I am aware this is mainly a Steam/Origin issue, but I figure with the new update, some of us might be struggling to over come this.

Edit: I also tried added the title through GLOSC to steam as well, and this didn't work. Its the work around I use for UWP games.

Edit: Nevermind, its specifically Mass Effect, apparently it doesn't play well with controllers on PC.

  6. It works now thanks! I'm pretty sure it was the MAME version not matching the MAME set version, but I thought they were. I reinstalled MAME again by scratched and it worked this time, so maybe it wasn't, I dunno. Thanks for helping.

What version of MAME are you using?

I had an older version installed (not sure what) that I never really had sucess with, but I thought I'll just use Retroarch, then the new update came out so I wanted to use MAME for it, and noticed this issue, so I downloaded the newest one (0220b I think) and it still didn't  work. I have since tried downloading 0197b as that is the same version as my rom pack I have, but no dice there either. I have removed Retroarch as an Arcade emulator as well in LB but that made no difference either.

Is your mame.ini file located in MAME's root folder?   i.e.  D:\Emulators\Mame\mame.ini

It is. I haven't altered the Mame folder in any way (except to store my Roms in mame/roms) and I haven't touched the INI. I also tried numerous versions of MAME as well.

  8. Tried this too

step by step, put in the same locations ETAprime did, even turned off start up screens. same issue

Edit: I want to add, I don't think its the Roms or Mame. Its something with properly launching it from Launchbox, as I can sucessfully load a game from Mame itself. Even if I click launch mame in Launchbox it happens. Screen goes black for a few seconds, then back to LB

  9. I used this tutorial and when  I tried to launch in LB the screen goes black for a few seconds, and then back to launchbox. Nothing happens. I know the roms are good as I can test within Mame. I can also launch with RetroArch, but I want Mame for the high scores. Ideas?

  10. Found a part of the issue maybe. When I changed the video playback engine from VLC (which worked perfect for years) to Windows Media Player, I got the sound back immediately, and lost it again when I went back to VLC. Then I started up Retroarch, and still no sound. So I restarted Big Box. It started with no sound again, and I check and Windows media is still selected. I switch to VLC and nothing, back to Windows Media and I get sound again (but only in BigBox). So I uninstalled VLC from my PC (not sure if VLC is intergrated into BigBox or is using it from my PC or not), and I still have the issue.

  11. So it was working earlier. It didn't touch anything in Big Box. I changed a couple settings in Retroarch (controller bindings, and logged into Achievements, and overridden the core settings) then exited out and back in to make sure they saved. Then audio didn't work. At first I thought it was just Retroarch, but Big Box was doing it to. So I restarted my PC. Same thing. I checked my audio settings on the PC, other games work, web browers works, even launchbox if I just launch that works, but bigbox and any game launched from it, no audio. Looked at the audio settings in menu and its all up there, nothing muted. I have no idea what I did.

I launch it from Steam, but even if I don't it still happens. Thoughts?

fsuae emulator is better than winuae my friend. its portable as well and user friendly. Youtube provides a long almost hour video of how to configure and manipulate the fsuae emulator. i highly suggest studying that video because the fsuae emulator's config files that you make for your games start right up with launchbox.

Yeah, I just used it for 10 mins and its light-years better. Thanks.

This is not how you change the emulator for your games, for single games just right click and edit a game and change the emulator in the edit window. For all games in a platform select all the games using Control + A and then edit with Control + E, this brings up the bulk edit tool, select emulator from the first drop down menu that appears and then in the 2nd dropdown pick the emulator you want to use and finish out the wizard.

I don't use WinUAE in LB so I cannot help you with that one, sorry.

Thanks, that fixed it. The other issue appears to be with the Steam overlay

EDIT or rather launching through steam in general cause disabling the overlay didn't fix it.

  14. First, with default emulator. When I change from Retroarch to another emulator, it won't stay changed. For example, I did this both with N64 and Amiga. I went into the manage emulators settings > associated platforms and deleted N64 and Amiga from retroarch. Then I added Project 64 and WinUAE, and made those the default emulator. When I launch it in LB/BB it still launches in Retroarch, but I can tell it to launch in P64 or WinUAE if I select launch with.

Second issue, when I do launch an amiga game in LB/BB I can't control it unless I alt tab out, even then it only controls for 2 or 3 seconds, so its unplayable. I think the controls are being grabbed by another window. This doesn't happen if I launch the emulator outside of LB/BB, so its something to do with Launchbox. I tried turning off game startup screens, but that wasn't it.

    Thoughts?
