  1. So just an update and maybe a better explanation of how i ended up using my nas with my arcades.

The Equipment: I have a total of 1 arcade, 2 racing arcades, 3 pc machines, 2 NAS systems.

The plan: I wanted to be able to load my arcade up to any of my devices and get the same experience.  If I change it on one, it changes to all

    How I accomplished:

I loaded all roms, updates, videos, manuals, emulator configurations from the NAS

I install all emulators as portable and install them all into the same directories on each computer

I created .bat files to automatically assign symbolic links to each  of the emulators, Launchbox, Rocket Launcher on each computer.  For instance, my mame ini files are located on my NAS drive, each computer has mame installed at c:\games\emulators\mame with a symbolic link between.

I symbolic links so launchbox thinks my games are in c:\games\launchbox\games when they are really on NAs drive

The biggest issue i faced was the images for the games.  In my experience when i was running the images form the NAS, it made the system run VERY slowly to load.

I ended up installing the images on my arcade and then using a backup program to send it to the other pcs.

    End Result:

It goes in phases and not sure if this is an issue with my configuration or not but sometimes when exiting Mame, it freezes for about 30 seconds, then returns to Launchbox.  I'm sure that the games load slower but it is not really noticeable.

I've never heard of symlinks causing any computer performance hit. Also not real sure why you're already making symlinks yourself in the LB directory.

LOL.  So if you have hundreds of them they tend to take a hit. I had a lot.

As far as symbolic links in my launchbox folder.  i use a symbolic links so that i can play on any computer in my house with the same experiience.

I have Roms, Manuals, Music, Videos on my nas drive.

I have Images on my d drive

I have all my configurations for all my emulators on my NAS drive

I have the actual emulators on my C drive

I can either go from my Arcade Machine, my racers, My personal Desktop, My laptop, my kids pc and load any game on any emulator i have installed and it will be set up all the same.

There is 1 downfall, for instance if 2 people use the same emulator, sometimes it conflicts and has issues.

  3. Hi i was wondering what the purpose of the core directory is.  It seems like it duplicates everything.  So there is a launchbox.exe, confiog files, etc.  When you have launchbox open there is actually a symbolic lik that links to your data, images, etc folders.  This seems redundant and something tht may be slowly down my pc.  I also have configured symbolic links to those directories. So basically core is create a symbolic link to a symbolic link.

  4. ok i figured it out.

So my Mame section is called Arcade.  So for some reason the auto generated lists are defaulted and do not change form looking for platform MAME instread of Arcade

    image.thumb.png.c41263054c7ec1b68d388a7b64e7b709.png  this equals zero games

    image.thumb.png.da0516bfc3d76fc875e9de62c6310efd.pngthis equals 104 games

  5. Tried to import a new rom set. I picked to not create the capcom, etc playlist but did choose to crete the 2player and genre playlists.  The importer imported all my games and created the playlist.  However all the playlists were empty.  Anyone have the playlists for mame in somewhere around mame set 0.248?

    Also is this a bug?

As for -Window I don't use command line I use Mame X64.exe which is it's basic UI

Using Mame 0.249 and Mame64.exe does not compute.  they dropped mame64.exe about a year ago.  It should be mame.exe .

headrush is correct you need to delete those files, but i would also delete any cruisin file in the sta directory also.

the analog settings definately make a difference.  I have some wheels (original equipment) form a couple of racers, that i can not manually callibrate per game with out the analog settings.  If you search google you maybe able to find the post i used that shows all the games analog settings.

  7. I am having this same exact problem.  Except I am using just using a complete romset from PD.  When i uncheck skip unplayable games (there are a lot of games that are playable in this list but not complete or has distortion), it gives me 10,000extra files.  Now most of these files are not GAMES at all.

My question is does the mame.exe itself label these other files as unplayable games or unplayable AND software titles?  Is there anyway Jason could filter these files out as they are not games and should never be added anyway.

or is this  a mame.exe and we need to take this up with them?

**Sorry i didn't read second page.  I missed it.**

  8. @faeran ok so my main question is, what dictates "games unplayable in MAME" or "non-arcade games"?

I ask this because the 10,000 games came because i unchecked unplayable games.  Why are things in this picture considered games?  It should be liste don non-arcade games (unless non-arcade is the other systems)

  9. Ok looking for some explanations as to what this screen means.  I came up with this issue when trying to import my games.  I skipped alot of different types of games and somehow came up with 400 more games as i had previously.  However, then i realized I didn't have some of my favorite games.  So i redid it hardly skipping naything, but then my game count was 11,000 more.  Obviously these 11,000 was mainly junk that should have never even been though of being included.  So what i desire is a thoughtful explanation of what type of game is included and see if we can get playlists created for each category.

which probably means it's not going to happen until they get off their butts

hmmm the Mame team has been running straight for over 10+ years.

Your problem is probably with your wheel and calibration.

you need to be more descriptive of your issue.  Does either load?  If they load does the game play?  Is this only based on your controls?  here are my settings.

I'll vote 1000x for the Bezel Project integration!

not sure if this is what you are really asking for.  I would like this 1000x more if it enabled the bezel project on systems like rocket launcher does. Rocketlauncher allows bezels on almost all games, rather than relying on the emulator.

No further forward with this?  I have a mountain of Gamebase Collections that need importing into Launchbox

    @dillonm

If you look back at page 2 you will see that i created a little script to do most of the work.  it would work the same with the other gamebases.  However if you look above this post.  They created a little program.

Even 12 seconds sounds way to long, sounds like you have something else going on here. I can launch both Robocop and R-Type from launchbox in 7 seconds, even Street Fighter 3 Third Strike launches in 8 seconds and that also loads a CHD. MAME 0.240, Launchbox on a SATA SSD, but roms on a Laptop style 5400rpm HDD, so as slow a HDD as you can get.

Not as slow... I am using my games on a NAS, so I expect it to be slower.  In fact I have everything on my nas except executable files for emulators(for the most part) and images.

I think i fixed the problem by deleting the mame section in launchbox and importing again.

    Thanks for everyones help

  14. For the past 4 months or so i have noticed a steep incline in the amount of time it takes to load a mame game.  I first thought it was rocketlauncher.  So i turned it off, but now I just tried to change all of the commands for mame in launchbox and it still takes 30 seconds or so to load.  I created a shortcut using mame.exe "Path\To\Rom" and it loads within 12 seconds.  I have also tried turning off high scores, startup, shutdown screens, pause screens, etc

    Any help?

  15. I also have this issue.  It takes 12 seconds to lad a game form a shortcut.  It takes 45 to load the same game from Launchbox.  I even tried deleting all of the extra commands it goes through.  I don't know what is causing this issue and why is it not more widespread?

  16. So i am intereste din switching from c:\Games\emulators\Mame to c:\games\launchbox\emulators\mame.  I would like to do this so that i get all the new configurations and it is all uniform.  I realize i could simply copy it over but it would be nice if when adding mame as an emulator It would simply ask me if it should download it, itself like Retroarch does.

If you are trying to type it into the field labeled "Sample Command:" it will not work. You have to type any command line parameters into either the "Default Command-Line Paramaters" field or in the same labeled field in the "Associated Platforms" tab.

Yeah, I figured out my issue and tested it just now.  It was the location of the framefile i missed.  So my command should be

    "C:\Games\Emulators\Hypseus-Singe\hypseus.exe" lair vldp -framefile c:\Games\Launchbox\Games\Hypseus-Singe\lair\lair.txt -fullscreen -bank 1 00110111 -bank 0 10011000 -fastboot -volume_nonvldp 5 -volume_vldp 20 -fastboot

    But Launchbox was doing this

    hypsues.exe lair vldp -framefile c:\Games\Launchbox\Games\Hypseus-Singe\lair\lair.txt -fullscreen -bank 1 00110111 -bank 0 10011000 -fastboot -volume_nonvldp 5 -volume_vldp 20 -fastboot "Full\Path\To\Rom\File"

Well i didn't have a path because the path is the framefile.  So today I did the obvious fix and move the -framefile to the end to look like this

    lair vldp -fullscreen -bank 1 00110111 -bank 0 10011000 -fastboot -volume_nonvldp 5 -volume_vldp 20 -fastboot -framefile "Full\Path\To\Rom\File"

This worked, so sorry for posting a bug, the bug was my brain.
