So something with the auto-import is breaking for me. I now am permanently stuck on importing games, so the application never loads, so I can't turn that back off in the app. Is there a file I can edit to change that setting so I can load the application?

I can't be 100% sure, but in your Launchbox/Data folder there's a file called Settings.xml.  Open that up and search for import.  There's a flag that's labeled <EnableAutomatedImports>  If you set that flag to false I would assume that disables it.  Should look like this to disable it

    <EnableAutomatedImports>false</EnableAutomatedImports>

Make a backup of that file before you edit/save it, just in case my instructions are wrong... so can revert back to what it was before.

  2. I don't really use HDPacks anymore as I find now days I prefer to play the game as intended.  However, that being said since a few people have been having issues, I figured I try it again on my system to see, and they're working fine for me still.  All I can suggest is make sure you have the latest retroarch installed, along with the latest Mesen core.  In your retroarch/system folder make sure you have a folder called "HdPacks".  In that folder have folders with the same name as the filename of the game you're looking to enable the HD Pack for.  For example, if the rom is called "Super Mario Bros. (World).nes" you need to have a folder in the HdPacks folder called "Super Mario Bros. (World)" then in that folder have all the assets related to the HD Pack.  Finally, in retroarch when you launch the core/game go into the quick menu for the Mesen core and make sure HD Packs is enabled (or on... can't recall how it's labeled) and not off/disabled.  You might then need to restart retroarch/re-launch the game/core for the now enabled HD Packs to take effect.  Note, you only need to do this once and the core option should save when you exit retroarch and then all future games you open will look in the HdPacks forlder for a matching folder to your rom, and use those assets as applicable.

I just tested several packs and they all seemed to work ok for me in Retroarch.  If it's not working for you, all I can think is that maybe something I listed above is not correct (ie. not the latest core, HdPacks folder not in the correct place, folder name not matching rom name, or HD Packs not enabled in the core options).

If all else fails, you can always download the stand alone version of Mesen2 (https://github.com/SourMesen/Mesen2) which is the latest version of Mesen still being developed by the original author (Sour).  I haven't tested the HD Packs lately in Mesen2, but the last time I checked they seemed to be working ok for the most part (Zelda's wasn't working though for some reason, so not sure if that's still the case or not).  But, it's another way to go, and I expect if some packs are not working yet in Mesen2, they likely will be in the future.

  3. Hey all,

Figured I'd post this here to let people know.  It looks like the original author or Mesen, Sour, is back and giving a rehaul to one of the, if not the, best NES emulators out there, Mesen.

    https://github.com/SourMesen/Mesen2

It looks like he's also integrating SNES, GameBoy and PC-Engine emulation in Mesen 2 as well (I haven't played with that part of the emulator yet to see how good/bad it is compared to other stand-alone emulator).  I've played around a bit with it for NES emulation, and so far it seems work well for what I've tested.  However, it appears to be a little buggy with NES HD Packs (for example the Zelda HD pack doesn't work on this version, but does with Mesen/Mesen-X).  I'm sure he, or one of the other devs contributing to the project on GitHub, will get around to fixing it.  But, in the meantime I'm looking forward to what Sour does with this newer incarnation of the best NES emulator out there.

Anyway, I thought I'd post this in case anyone was interested and didn't know of this new incarnation.

    Cheers,

  4. Just so you don't think everyone is having issues, I upgraded to 12.14 beta 5 and have no issues starting LB/BB.  But, I also upgraded from 12.13 to 12.14 beta 5 (skipped all other betas until now) ... not sure if maybe that means anything or not. Also, while I was typing this I noticed you release beta 6.  Updated to that and still have no issues launching LB/BB.

  5. The video does explain well where you need to enable it within LB.  In the options section there's a section under Integration labelled Retro Achievements.  In that section is where you would put your username and API key (that you can get from your profile section on the Retroachievements page).  You don't need retroarch per say in order to enable retroachievements.  But, you do need an emulator that also does allow for retrroachievement integration as well.  The launchbox integration just shows you the achievements possible for games which have some, and which you might have completed, but it's the emulator that is what talks with the retroachievements website to mark them as completed when you do those achievements.

Retroarch is one the easiest to use because, as the video shows, integration is easy, and many cores in retroarch are compatible with achievements.  But, like I said, you don't need to use retroarch, but if you want the achievements to be marked as completed as you do them, then whatever emulator you are using for that platform must be able to also integrate with the retroachivements website otherwise they will never be marked as completed.

For LB, you also need to make sure you're using a theme which has been updated recently enough, that it supports the retroachievments.  If the theme doesn't support it, then you might not have a way to view them when you select a game.  The same goes with BB theme.  As long as you're using one that's been made, or updated recently, and you have the credentials entered correctly in the launchbox retro achievements section, they should show for you on a game that supports them.

As for where you can request new features I believe there's usually a poll that comes out that people can submit their suggestions.  In the past Jason used to have live streams on youtube where people could post their suggestions, and he would compile them in a list and people could vote for the items they wanted to see.  I'm not sure now days how/where you could submit items, but maybe a mod can answer that for you :)

  6. Found a minor issue with the theming in LB and the new related games sections.  With the default theme, beats and default plus (those are all I've tried so far), if you use the white dialogue theme the text is almost non-readable (very faint).  If you switch the dialogue theming to the dark theme, the text become white and properly legible.  Not sure if this should have been reported here or not, but since it's related to the new update I figured this was a good a place as any :)

  7. Hey all,

I was in the process of updating missing media in my LB/BB setup (specifically for Arcade in this case).  I have a full mame collection imported in a freshly formatted PC, etc.  I have a EmuMovies account, and it seems to be working fine for other smaller platforms, but when I try to do it for my entire Arcade collection the scanning process seems to always get stuck at Searching for Video_System_Intro_MP4 media.  Also, if I click cancel it doesn't seem to actually stop the process once it hits that section of the process. I'm not getting any error messages... just seems stuck there.  I've let it sit there on the searching screen for about 1 hr, and then again for 1/2 now after I clicked on the cancel process.  It seems to be like it might be a bug in LB/BB simply because the cancel doesn't seem to be actually doing anything maybe? Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this, or has thoughts on what might be going on?

EDIT: It seems like it gets stuck on that section even if I uncheck any video sections to search for on the EmuMovies section of the wizard.... odd.

  8. Hey all,

I recall that there used to be an option in LB to create missing/automated playlists. Has that been removed from LB recently? I can't seem to find it anywhere. I know I can always create my own filters/playlists and save them, but if you didn't select to options to create the automated playlists during the mame import process how do you create the automated playlists?

  9. Hmm there are a couple of things that I sometime see causing this.  In Cemu make sure you have it set to Cemu defaults for Custom Timer and MM timer accuracy.  You will only see these options in the cemu menus if you're using Cemuhook, FYI.  If that doesn't work, and you are using Cemuhook for h.264 decoding, I've also seen times where I have to disable, then re-enable that option for it to work as well.

That being said, it sounds like you haven't touched any of those settings, as you mentioned you were running cemu with the stock settings... so maybe check to make sure in LB you have it set to open the appropriate .rpx files.  Those are the files that need to be linked to in LB in order for the game to launch properly via LB/BB.

  10. Does it run if you launch it from Retroarch directly (ie. not from launchbox)?  If so, then it's a LB/emulator/setting issue.  If it doesn't load in Retroarch directly, then it's either a core issue, or more than likely a dependency issue (bios files).  Here's the page for the core you mentioned you were using, where it lists which bios files are needed to run the core correctly.

    https://docs.libretro.com/library/beetle_pce_fast/

Just an FYI if the above page is not clear (I don't recall if it mentions this or not) but the bios files needed should be in an unzipped format, and placed in the retroarch/system folder.

If it does run properly from retroarch directly, then let us know and we can assist further in trying to figure out what setting is wrong in the emulator setup in LB.

  11. When you add redream as an emulator to LB, it should automatically add the correct settings, including the exit options in the running script and exit script sections.  But yes, the exit combo for redream is Alt+F4 by default.  To use a controller to exit games, you need to turn on controller automation (in both LB and BB - if you have a premium license).  Once you turn on controller automation you can them map the exit option in the mapping sections to whatever controller button (or combo of buttons) that you want to use ...it's up to you what you want to use.

As for save/load states, I believe redream does support them, but only via its built in menu system.  I'm not 100% sure if you can map a button to auto load/save to those states or not.  But, you should be able to map a button to open the main menu of redream, and from there access the load/save options.

    Hope this helps.

  12. The mame.ini file should be in the root of the mame install.  In your case it should be in LB\Emulators\MAME 0,240\, not LB\Emulators\MAME 0,240\ini.  You may need to run mame.exe for the first time in order for the .ini to be created if it's not in the LB\Emulators\MAME 0,240\ folder too.

  13. If I'm understanding your question correctly.  You imported roms and they were combined so you get the play version option when you right-click the game in LB.  You then manually deleted roms that didn't work from your roms folder. And now you want to remove those roms from launchbox.  If that is indeed the question, then while in launchbox and in your C64 platform, select the Tools option, then select scan, then finally select scan for removed C64 roms (or whatever your platform name is called it will list it there.  It should see that those roms are no longer in your games folder, then remove them from LB.

On the details towards the top is a tab control that reads "Overview, Achievements, High Scores". We hide pages that don't have data so you probably won't see all 3 very often. Click High Scores to see the leaderboards.

Ah I see.  The bug I found then appears to be that the tab only shows when you select the show alltime option in the game details options. If you select any of the other options the tab doesn't show :)

  15. Not sure if it's just me or not.  But I just installed the latest beta (didn't try any of the other betas so not sure if this is new to beta 7 or not) and I don't see any of the mame high score leader boards in the game details section like it used to.  I checked my settings and I do have it set to show in the details, but I'm not seeing or, or not seeing what I might need to click on to see it.  I know I can right-click on a game and select to view the leaderboard that way, and that does still work.  But, it was nice to see the high scores in the details section at a quick glance.  Anyway, I thought I'd report it in case it is an oversight.

  16. Just to be 100% sure, while on the emulator edit page (the one you screenshot above), click on the Browse button next to the application path, then browse to the drive/path you have your retroarch.exe file located (in your user/appdata/roaming folder it appears).  It's possible that the path listed there is not in the correct syntax to see the actual location of the retroarch.exe file in your main appdata folder.... not sure this is the issue, but worth a try just to rule it out if anything :)

  17. Hey all.  I looked around on the forums and release notes and I couldn't find the answer to the question I have.  Which is, when you use the new built-in retroarch updater, does it update your installed cores as well, or just the main retroarch program?  I assume it does just the main program, as you can easily update your cores from within retroarch itself... but I thought since I had the question maybe others might have the same question as well :)

  18. Hi all,

Not sure what's changed, but in the past I used to be able to edit my retroarch emulator settings and assign multiple cores for different platforms.  For example, for Super Nintendo Entertainment System I used to be able to add two entries, both named Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and one uses the bsnes core, and the other uses the snes9x core.  This would then allow me to select one as the primary core, and one to use as an alternative.  Today when I went to edit something in my retroarch settings, it would not allow me to exit/save settings until I deleted all those duplicate/different core entries.   How do we do we setup alternative cores for retroarch now?... or is this a bug I've discovered?

See pics for what I get as an error when I try to add a 2nd entry for Super Nintendo Entertainment System using the snes9x core.

EDIT: I'm on version 12.1 and using Windows 11 64-bit... FYI
