Does the cover name take priority as the rules indicate

I think you answered your own question :)

https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/376101-the-elder-scrolls-iii-morrowind-game-of-the-year-edition is a duplicate entry lacking a lot of media and data and wrong original release date. Steam is a marketplace, not a platform. For some reason that version was added to the database as the "2009 Steam version" ... weird stuff (I'm also seeing people adding MS-DOS games in the Windows platform just because they are available on Steam/GOG etc. and running on DosBOX...). There's no point of adding all marketplace releases in my opinion: https://www.mobygames.com/game/11430/the-elder-scrolls-iii-morrowind-game-of-the-year-edition/releases/windows/

If a game has a specific (even if incorrect) name on Steam/GOG etc. it can always be added as an alternative name to the original entry...

  2. Very nice, happy to see nice progress on the database and big future plans ahead! :)

One question that came into mind right away: Why are games titles and platforms in capital letters now? It's quite hard to see if a title is correctly written. For example: The Secret of the House in the Cave. Might be written "The secret Of The house In THE CAVE."  I was also wondering what does the database say about the SNES game "Ballz 3D: Fighting at Its Ballziest" shouldn't it be "at its" instead of "at Its". Yes, I know I could just remove the LB ID and search it again and see if there's any change. T
here is one way I can see the letter case of the game title directly from the website database: from the browser tab, but it's not a very practical way, especially if you have multiple tabs open you can only partially see the title. I would still recommend prioritizing practical ways of displaying information from a database instead of prioritizing modern visual look. And I also noticed the list view doesn't remain in memory when switching into the next page.

Looks to be the same game released in different years in different regions: http://www.atarimania.com/game-skindiver_s7227.html. I would suggest to delete Skindiver and keep Sea Hunt with more media https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/28818-sea-hunt and just change the release year from '87 to 1983
(even if the  American title, which is prioritized as the default title name over other regions, was released later - database rules says we need to have the first release date on the same platform, regardless of region) :D

I try to modify parts of the code, or modify numbers to try to adjust it, but I can't get it to work. Sometimes it seems like changing something doesn't do anything, so I don't know what I'm modifying or what I should be modifying.

In my case, I have managed to remove the carousel image in the platform details (now you only see the small image to select). But I've been trying for hours to make the last played, most played and random buttons appear vertically and it's impossible. I can't get anything to work.

For your case, I've tried going to BoxesContentView and have changed

    <Border Height="{Binding ActualHeight, ElementName=ContentImage}" Width="{Binding ActualWidth, ElementName=ContentImage}" Background="#2A2B34" BorderThickness="0" CornerRadius="10"/>

After setting that CornerRadius to 0 now game boxes are not rounded. Does that help?

Yes, that made a significant difference, thank you! :)

To the comments that have been made, I wanted to add asking if we can have ways to configure to adjust the theme to our liking. With so many different users, we each give value to different parameters, so making something perfect for everyone I understand is impossible, but at least we can make adjustments to adapt it to what we are looking for.

I completely agree with that and that would be a perfect solution, but I guess quite hard to do the code behind it. a Simple GUI Theme editor without any visual studio coding knowledge based of the current Default theme to tweak it as you would prefer (for me I'd first get rid of most of the curvatures, especially on the cover images) or perhaps a more realistic approach would be to add "advanced" settings in Launchbox's Main Window Theme involving theme visuals/elements in the options menu. There are a ton of options already available, but it looks like there is some demand for even more.

  6. Hi,

Where did the Old Default (Legacy) Theme go? It's included in the changelog, but somehow vanished from Launchbox:

    image.thumb.png.2e63bf88713599e0d43d44b287c71fb2.png

Visually I still prefer non-rounded uncropped corners for boxes, which is for default themes only available from the very first (legacy) one.

+ other more practical functions which I prefer in the legacy one (mostly using LB for editing stuff, and BB for playing) - like where is the "ADD" button in the new theme, without the need to open the menu with right-click?

  7. Yes, you can start them individually - I'm afraid I don't remember all the steps I took to get there. Here's my basic setup:

    image.png.bab9cb75acd0ff3747f76513a91ce700.png

And in Launchbox no command lines needed. I use dsiware .nds files as roms and they start directly skipping the DSi Menu.

I did dump the nand from my own Nintendo DSi console. There are some incompatibility issues with saving if I recall.

@kurzih Might not be a bug. Possible the team has not had all the various case models designed for this feature. I could be wrong though.
The 3D cases are not generated using image aspects they are actual 3D models with the measurements of the actual cases. I recall seeing the team advise that over time the others will be made.

OK, so it's work in progress and we got a sneak peek of what to come :D Because there are already 3D models (for spine types at least) implemented as "auto-detect, American version, European version" for PSX and DC (see second picture's drop-down menu: "spine style" and "spine version"). I really love the 3D models, my favorite of the new features by far.

  9. There seems to be a bug in the 3D model's spine width in jewel cases. It's forcing it too thin for example in Sony Playstation European covers:

The actual (scanned) spine should be this wide to keep the proportions correct (Single disc European covers are wider than American ones):

    image.thumb.png.32f2a3f324c22b631441c4fe81d28b38.png

but then it's forcing it like this, even if choose manually the European version:

    image.thumb.png.c144126a78cc11983f339a5bb8de044f.png

Shouldn't the 3D model use the width of the spine and keep the ratio intact?

Same issue with the (European) Dreamcast template:

Isn't in the plans at the moment. Honestly hadn't even considered that people may want to do so until you mentioned it. I have the idea written down and will keep an eye on it as we move forward.

Thank you! I hope it will make it into the code at some point. There are quite a lot of platforms (mainly older ones) with more or less an even match of different kinds of boxes / CD (or disquette/cassette tape) jewel cases. Here's what I was referring to with the CD32 platform:

    image.thumb.png.0f9c88d46948f19a38d1bc03b800254a.png

on that view 3 of these are CD jewel cases and 5 are cardboard boxes (which some of actually included a CD jewel case box within, but that's another story if at some point launchbox BigBox would be able to make an animation of the 3D model by opening it and "loading" the "disc - front"/"cart - front" image from it). As you know, Bulk edit would make it quite fast to get the right type for each of them.

Beta 2 is out with the following:

    • New Feature: 3D model overrides can now be set on a game-specific basis using the Add/Edit Game window

Very nice feature! Seems to be working as it should. Now we can have for example Commodore CD32 jewel cases and boxes showing proper 3D models. Any chance of getting this into the bulk edit as well? ;)

    Hi all,

Can you tell me what are the rules are for the Arcade Games with  "Box - Front" images?

Since arcade games often lack a physical box, many games use flyers instead. However, some MAME games are missing the "Box - Front" category, which means that there are no images available in the games list.

As a solution, I have submitted some flyers as a placeholder. However, opinions on the appropriateness of this solution are divided, with some people considering it appropriate while others do not. Nonetheless, it is common practice to use these placeholders for Box Front in many arcade games.

So what image should be submitted for Box-Front for an arcade game?

    Thanks.

If only a flyer exists, then it should be uploaded as a flyer. It works as the" front cover", thus there WILL be an image for it in Launchbox. You can also prioritize front images as you prefer (might be a premium feature though):

    image.thumb.png.5494123df6b3b7c87e089002d36daaf4.png

if you want to upload "box" covers that do not officially exists, then use the Fanart - Box - Front image type for that. Launchbox is very flexible, in most cases you will not be without images if you have proper settings. The arcade section is kind of using flyers - front images as default "Box Front", prioritizing them, since there are usually no boxed covers for arcade games. As you can see: https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/platforms/games/5-arcade

As a side note I would suggest using the flyer tag for magazine front covers (like in C64 demotape games etc.), since those are not boxes either.

Thanks for the report. Looks like I was able to see the sorting issue, but only when auditing all games. When auditing a specific platform it works as intended. However, I was unable to recreate the issue of the image not opening when you click on one of the entries. Each time I tried it would open the spine image just fine.

Maybe you can explain more specifically what section of LaunchBox you are in when entering into the Audit window and how you enter into it. Any other details you can think of would be helpful as well.

    Yes, of course:

I've only tried with platform specific Audit. If I press the header, it doesn't sort to numeric value (on top there should be entries with the most spines and then if I press the header again it should show entries with the least spines (or 0).

    image.thumb.png.02c09f8536bf1a446419e508922d32fe.png

And when sorting works it should look like this:

    image.thumb.png.bac523493da94ec24a74e0da812228b6.png

Sorry, the click actually DOES open the spine if one exists - I thought/remembered it would open the edit window if the value was "0".

  14. I'm seeing this kind of behavior, just when things started to normalize in moderation/submissions (except for someone who clearly has yet to find the "replace image" option):

    image.thumb.jpeg.4a1b39f7d10a73dd8cd813312449c925.jpeg

@Jason Carr I thought all Arcade games should be "locked" in the "Arcade" Platform? We have sub-platforms for specific Arcade systems (ie. Sega Model 3) and when some games are missing from those sub-platforms, we normally add a new entry directly to that sub-platform (even if there's one similar in the "main" Arcade section). But this is cutting corners short, isn't it?

I think we should allow moving games only if they are in the wrong platform, right?

  15. Amiga CD is quite simply just an Amiga with a CD-ROM drive - it's not a separate Amiga computer. I bought an external CD Drive back in the days for my Amiga 4000/030.
So, some of the software is CD based, like many of the later Amiga games. Amiga CD32 was the "console" Amiga, but even then we could play CD32 games on our CD-ROM capable Amiga computers with a few fixes.

PowerPC accelerated version is just a different (PPC+68k) CPU for the Amiga and still used/required with AmigaOS 4 and some GFX boards. Here's a list of PPC compatible games: https://www.lemonamiga.com/games/list.php?list_hardware=PPC and CD-based games: https://www.lemonamiga.com/games/list.php?list_hardware=CD-ROM

All of these can be emulated with WinUAE for example. I don't know much about the RA core. I prefer using FS-UAE & WinUAE.

But this is just as simple put as possible, not very accurate :D

EDIT: Many CD games require to be at least partially installed on HDD via Workbench/AmigaOS and will not start automatically when inserted. What I've done in WinUAE is used a WB3.1 HD and created a HDD file for installing the game and the ISO CD to get things running "semi-automatically" from Launchbox and saved that as a configuration setting. It's actually quite simple to setup with WinUAE's GUI.

For Quake in Launchbox I have the ROM path to the .cue file and custom command line is: -config=AmigaCDQUAKE.uae -G -s use_gui=no -s -cdimage=

And when I launch it in Launchbox it goes automatically to this result (I had already installed it to the QUAKEHD partition) - this is a Amiga 4000/ AGA OS3.1 setup, no PPC:

    image.thumb.png.f26e0244f1c3fda2fa58155fcb8d7a23.png

And this is a screenshot I just took from the gameplay, smooth GFX :D But I realized that I didn't have enough mem, so I changed my config a bit. Thank you for having me re-visit this game!

    image.thumb.png.739f161311fe4a4429e3fc13f016af97.png

Bonus EDIT: Here's a screenshot of AmigaOS 4.1 Final (which I bought last year) running on a PPC configuration and Picasso IV GFX board emulated on WinUAE - This is a bit more complicated to get up and running:

    image.thumb.png.bc250a224d0fdfd2b9e2d00f69f5e554.png

  16. I haven't been able to update ANY steam games with the metadata/media update for a long time. Always gets stuck on "initializing process". I've installed my steam games by using the steam url/shortcuts instead of an import process. So in the Launchbox Steam settings, there is nothing. Does that cause the metadata update to get stuck? Feels like a bug if I don't want to use the Steam media/metadata for my steam games. I'm trying to update metadata/media from the LB database, nothing is ticked for Steam metadata/media.

Do you really need to have your steam ID/key in the settings to get metadata updated?

EDIT: Confirmed. If you enter your Steam Community ID + API Key. THEN It doesn't get stuck. Could you please fix this on the next update? It shouldn't get stuck if you just want to update steam or none-steam games only from the Launchbox database, should it? @C-Beats

  17. I don't know about your case, but let me explain you a few things about the database moderation/submission mechanics. And also reasons why current moderation is really problematic:

    1) it takes only 3 moderators to let a submission go through. And there are so many moderators right now that if it happens to be three "trigger happy" ones just pressing the green button without much thought it might go through without actual/proper moderation.

    2) I've witnessed at least hundreds or even thousands of times a submission has gone through which has clearly broken the database rules (noting that as of today I have rejected over 35 000 submissions/changes but also accepted over 364 000 - so I know what I'm saying). That is why even if something is initially accepted, it may not be rightfully accepted.

    3) There is an ancient database bug that when adding a new entry, especially if you do add a lot of "new games" in the database, some of them will result in duplicates. Usually they are the next Launchbox ID. Like if you had the database create ID 334678 it could have made an exact duplicate (but without any media in it, just the texts) as ID 334679. There is no cure for this until the database will get a major overhaul.

I don't know if your case is a database duplication bug, or are the moderators (those who really look into things and take time to decide) seeing something that shouldn't be there. But that question is for those doing alterations on your entries.

Personally I think replacing duplicate/deletion entries bring other kind of problems. That's why when I frankly don't know what should be done; if it's green (accept) or red (reject), I press yellow (skip).
