Welcome any and all! Some of you may know who I am and some of you may not. For those of you that do, HELLO! For those of you that don't, NICE TO MEET YOU! And perhaps I should take this time to introduce myself. My name is James Cristopher Baker. I am 34 years old, and absolutely love EVERYTHING graphic design. 2 years ago I set out to do something different when it came to theme designs for Arcade Frontends. At the time, HyperSpin. During my duration there I learned a lot of valuable knowledge pertaining everything Graphic Design. I made a lot of friends that were helpful. From Vector redraws in PhotoShop and Illustrator,,,,to Video design in Premiere Pro and After Effects. Now allow me to backtrack a little and establish that everything video has been self taught. As some of you may know, most of the artwork at HyperSpin is made through PhotoShop. Themes that feature High Quality PNG's. I wanted to do something a little different. I wanted more effects and more ways to create animations. So, "The HyperSpin Cinematic Project" was born. It has been the hardest, most grueling thing I have ever taken on in my life. There is nothing I can do to make any of you understand what I go through to design my themes. Now, don't think I'm trying to give the impression that I'm the best thing since peanut butter and jelly, BECAUSE I'M NOT! I am a loner at heart, yet crave attention! Take that however you want to perceive it. Mainly all of my closest friends understand that I am very blunt and straight to the point. I never yell (Except when I'm watching football) and ALWAYS treat people with respect. So with that said -- I HOPE TO ONLY ATTRACT respectful individuals to this thread. People who are willing to give positive critique and feedback. People who are willing to respect me for what I do. People that will not cry about me being over-zealous. So no complaining about piddly things such as, "The music is terrible" etc... Things like changing the music is very simple. There are FREE easy to install video editing programs that anyone can use to EASILY change the music to your desired needs. Anyhow, why did I come to LaunchBox? Easy.... Talking with Jason and browsing through the forums gave me this wonderful feeling of positivity. Something I hadn't really felt in a long time. HyperSpin has become so over-run with negativity, I seriously believe there will be no recovery for them. I expect sometime in the future for them to release a new and improved frontend, but with everything I know about the founders and what goes on there,,,,they WILL NOT have what it takes to maintain it. LaunchBox on the other hand has BY FAR the most positive person I have ever met in this world of frontends behind the reigns. You guys know him as Jason Carr. I know him as.....well..................................Jason Carr. His live update streams and CONSTANT involvement made the decision very easy. I hope in time that most of you will open up and get involved. I love you all and well...............HERE GOES NOTHING!

    Unified

Unified View File This theme is a port of the HyperSpin Unified Widescreen Megatheme project, which was originally started by gibbawho and continued by many other talented artists over the years. It’s supposed to bring a unified look (hence the name) across all platforms while giving every platform it’s own individual touch. I’ve tried to stay very close to the original look and feel but also took some creative freedom, especially when it comes to the new fading info panel at the bottom of the screen. This theme was designed for 16:9 screens and display resolutions only. Big Box will automatically scale itself to a 16:9 aspect ratio when you use a different aspect ratio on your machine. Features: Individual Artwork for a lot of different platforms and playlists + some alternatives you can choose from Matches with the Unified platform video set from EmuMovies Fully animated wheel pointer Spinning discs for disc-based platforms Various other custom animations Uses the weather plugin by @Grila Templates to build your own platform artwork are included as .psd files Brings a small taste of the HyperSpin feeling to your Big Box setup Currently featured Views: Games Text List View: 3D Box Games Vertical Wheel View 1: 3D Box Games Vertical Wheel View 2: 3D Box + static cart/disc Games Vertical Wheel View 3: 3D Box + rotating disc Games Vertical Wheel View 4: Fullscreen video Platform Vertical Wheel View 1: Fullscreen video + scrolling text Platform Vertical Wheel View 2: Fullscreen video without scrolling text More Views are planned, so stay tuned. The theme includes artwork for the following 198 Platforms/Playlists: The Add-on package includes artwork for the following 295 playlists: The theme will also display a default artwork for Platforms/Playlists which are not yet covered or wrongly named. How to install: This theme only works on LaunchBox version 8.2 or higher! Just download the archive and extract it to: “..\LaunchBox\Themes\” Go to the “Plugins” folder inside of the extracted folder and right-click on of the .dll files. Choose Properties -> Click on “Unblock” at the bottom of the window. Close the window. Repeat that for all .dll files in that folder. If the "Unblock" button isn't there than you are already good to go. Open the Options menu in Big Box -> go to “Views” and change the Theme to "Unified". Change the “Games List View” and “Platforms List View” to one of the currently featured Views that are listed above. Make sure that in the Big Box Options -> Views –> “Show Games List Title” is enabled. Info: Never rename the theme folder! The theme folder has to be named exactly "Unified" or the theme won't work properly! (that's btw. an universal tip for all other themes as well) How to install the Add-on package: Just extract the contents of the .zip file into your LaunchBox folder. Note: You have to create the proper playlists for the collections yourself! How to change the location and temperature measurement unit for the Weather plugin: 1. Close BigBox in case you have it opened up 2. Visit the website http://www.woeidlookup.com/ and search for a location of your choice 3. Go to the “Plugins” folder inside the Unified theme folder Path: “..\LaunchBox\Themes\Unified\Plugins” 4. Open the “GrilaBBWeather.dll.config” with a text editor of your choice. For example: Notepad 5. Copy the WOEID from the website and replace the already existing ID in the config file with it 6. If you want to change the temperature unit from Fahrenheit to Celsius just change the “f” under Units to a “c” 7. Save the config file and you’re done Known issues: The logo of the Platform/Playlist and the individual video border don't show up in the Game Details screen and the theme displays the generic Big Box logo and metallic video border instead when it gets opened through any other Games View than the Text List View. Tips for tweaking your LaunchBox setup for this theme: In LaunchBox: Tools -> Options -> Cart Front Priorities -> Select all Cart and Disc related entries, deselect everything else. In Big Box: Options ->Transitions -> Change "Game Image/Video Transition” to “Fade” In Big Box: To avoid spinning cart art go to: Options -> Views -> Make sure that „Remember separate View for each platform” is checked. Than go either to the Keyboard Mappings or the Controller Buttons settings and set up a key/button for “Switch View”. Now you can go back to your platforms and switch the games Views for each platform individually on the fly. Use the Unified Platform videos from EmuMovies for an overall uniform look. You can either download them as free user from the EmuMovies website or if you are an EmuMovies premium user you can get them directly through LaunchBox under: Tools -> "Download Platform/Playlist Theme Videos". What is the Add-on package? The theme itself will always only include artwork for Platforms and Playlists that also have a Unified Platform video available on EmuMovies in order to provide a seamless experience. Everything else goes into the Add-on package. More generic playlists like franchises, series, genres, etc. are also only included in the Add-on package to avoid that the theme gets unnecessarily blown up it in its size. The same goes for everything that differs too much from the default Unified style. Individual platform artwork not showing up?: The media files that are inside the “..\LaunchBox\Themes\Unified\Images\Theme\..” folder have to be named exactly like your platforms inside LaunchBox. I've went with the HyperList/RocketLauncher naming conventions for the filenames in this package. If Big Box doesn’t show any individual artwork for a system that is listed above you may need to manually rename the relevant files for that platform in all four sub-folders. Also make sure that in the Big Box Options -> Views –> “Show Games List Title” is enabled! Discs are not spinning / showing up?: Make sure you have the right Games List View selected and Disc images in your Cart Image Priorities enabled (see the tips section of this download description). launch big box at windows startup

Good morning, finally i configure all the emus, videos, etc... but i want to finish my bartop with the big box at start up of windows. Is possible to start the pc and only view the big box mode ?? thanks a lot for your help
  5. Hello everyone, I really love LaunchBox and especially Big Box, because I use my PC with a controller from the couch in my living room. However, I'm experiencing an issue. I usually launch Big Box through Steam Big Picture Mode, so I can use my Steam controller. With some emulators (CEMU for example), things are fine and dandy, but there are also a couple of emulators (for example all of the NES emulators) that lose their focus to Big Box immediately after starting a rom. Getting up and going upstairs to press ALT+TAB on my keyboard is very annoying and my remote control unfortunately does not have a TAB button... I could use a mobile app (Unified Remote) to regain focus to the emulator, but that is not ideal too. I end up just starting Big Box without Steam, and using my old Xbox 360 controller. Things work fine, then. Any ideas on how to fix this or any ideas for a workaround? Is there a way to map ALT+TAB to my controller (controller automation), like how I press two buttons at the same time to close my emulator? Thanks!

Hi there, this is the second theme that I made as an extension to the excellent Coverbox themes made by @faeran if you want more platform-specific themes, go check out his Coverbox main theme down below. I recommend using this with Coverbox. However, this theme is different compared to others that it's actually a theme that only plays when you are on the Wii U game selection screen. In order to make it work you have to do the following: (Before starting Big Box, go to Launchbox/Themes/Coverbox - Nintendo DS/Fonts and install the Nintendo-DS-BIOS.ttf font in order to properly display the theme) 1. Head over to Options in the Big Box Menu 2. Scroll down to Keyboard Shortcuts 3. Look through the list of options until you find "Switch Theme". 4. Choose a key for the shortcut and head over to your Nintendo DS Platform Game Selection Screen 5. Press the Key and choose the theme from the list that pops up. 6. Congratulations you now have a Nintendo DS Theme that launches no matter what another theme you're using. I hope that this theme will help you show off your Wii U collection even more and I will soon upload Wii U Video Snaps so stay tuned. My Nintendo Wii U Coverbox Theme: Link to Coverbox by @faeran

  11. I've managed to get Big Box integrated into Windows Media Center 7 (WMC) so that you can launch it from the WMC main menu with the remote control. If Big Box closes then WMC becomes active again. and if WMC ends up in the foreground (for example, when you press the Windows button on the remote) then Big Box will be automatically closed. If anyone is interested in instructions on how to do this please let me know and I'll post them up somewhere.

    Shuffling BigBox Background Music

Hey! So I have my BigBox set up as a front-end for my Multicade, with numerous arcade titles to play, going so far as to add arcade music to the "Launchbox/Music/Background" folder so that it will shuffle through various arcade musics while the game screen is up. It works excellently and I even added album art and info for each game so it displays the song name, game it's from and who the artist is, along with a nice image of the game box art when a new song plays. To make sure the album art is retained for every song, I have each game's music in a different folder within the Background folder. It displays everything fine, but the issue I'm having is it's not shuffling the music, no matter how I set it up. Here's a better description of the problem: When I launch Big Box, it does select a random song, but afterwards it will sequentially play every song from that game (folder), before moving to the next game alphabetically and playing all the music from it as well. If I force it to next song with the BigBox binding, it will indeed select a random song, but afterwards will go back to playing them alphabetically. I have shuffle turned on in settings, but no matter what it won't actually shuffle them if I leave it sitting. It's annoying, as I want it to ideally shuffle every track together, while also retaining album art and info (if I stick them all in a folder together it will mess up the album art). Does anybody have any suggestions?
  13. Situation I just got big box after testing regular launchbox for a week and seeing that it handles adding my games quite nicely. I don't really want to do sorting by platform, I want sorting by genre, and sorting by series (for the serieses that I have with several games). After looking around it looks like the best way to accomplish this is by making smart playlists. So I make the playlists, and they seem to be working pretty well for including the titles, but I'm having some issues with layout and visuals. Inside the playlists, I found a view that seems to be working great (though a few games didn't auto-grab some of the images so I'll have to find some suitable images online for them or make them). Problem But in the "Platform list" view for the playlists, I'm having trouble. No matter which theme and view I try for it, the "platform wheel" isn't loading my playlist clear logos, it just shows plain text. At first it was because the images were tagged "banner" (and they were showing up elsewhere), but after going through and setting them all as "Clear Logo" they simply don't seem to be being used. Question Can someone help me understand what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for your time. [Added Example Image] I'd like the series titles to be replaced with the series logo. Banners are successfully loading in the bottom left; and "Console Images" are loading at the top if I set something to them. Those work fine. Where I'm struggling is getting the wheel to use the transparent logos.

    My Big Box Builds

Just finished up my arcade cab (less graphics which will get done someday) and thought I'd share my builds. All of these builds boot directly into Big Box and use a mix of GFCE, Critical Zone 1.8, and default themes. Arcade Cabinet - First is a wall-mounted arcade cabinet designed from scratch in Sketchup but loosely based on a Donkey Kong cabinet. I used 3/4" and 1/2" melamine, a 2x4" frame and Plexiglas. Everything is modular and can be taken apart and put back together with a screwdriver and a crescent wrench. Controls are Happ Suzzo and a i-PAC2 keyboard encoder. Two USB controller ports on the front and wireless mouse and keyboard for when you need it. The monitor is a AOC 27" LCD that looks amazing! (2) hidden mount 50w 4" full range speakers and a 35w stereo board fill out the sound. (Please don't mind the mess in the pictures! Redoing my basement!) At 60 FPS it runs up to Dreamcast on console, Noami and Sega Model 3 in arcade, and it runs as high as Gameboy Advanced currently for handheld but could probably do better. PC Specs: HP Compaq Pro 6300 Small Form Factor Tower (Craigslist) Intel Core i5-3570 @ 3.4GHz 4GB of DDR3 500 GB SSD MSI Computer Video Card GT 710 2GD3H LP (Needed a cheap card for HDMI output) Big Box Console - This was inspired by ETA Prime's review of the NUC Skull Canyon on his Youtube channel. Specs for the NUC Skull Canyon are here but I did overclock the CPU to 3.2GHz. There is 8GB of DDR4 2400Mhz RAM and (2) M.2 SSD @ 250 GB and 500 GB. I use 2 8Bitdo SN30 PRO controllers and these things kick ass. The controllers can run the entire system by unified automation with Controller Companion installed. Controllers even work perfectly with ScummVM! I travel a lot and this is perfect for the hotel. At 60 FPS it runs up Nintendo Wii and PS2 on console and any Arcade game I can throw at it. No handheld on this but it could probably handle PSP no problem. Surface Pro - This is for the plane. Work gave it to me and I didn't need it so it's a game pad now! Honestly this thing sucks for emulation but at least I can play up to PS1 at 60ish FPS. Use a Buffalo SNES USB controller that get the job done. Cat likes it cause of how hot it gets! Thanks for looking and happy gaming!

My work blends a few influences relevant to the platform while showcasing the machine itself along with the games the platform ran: 1) Music made using sounds available on the platform (where possible) 2) The platform's boot screen (if possible) 3) Commercial influences usually in the form of the platform's marketing jingle. 4) The platform's packaging. In this way, the platform video itself gives an accurate interpretation of what the platform is, was marketed as, and what it looked and sounded like. In this video, the beginning displays the NTSC box design that expands into the PAL version to display gameplay.

VTech CreatiVision Platform Video View File My work blends a few influences relevant to the platform while showcasing the machine itself along with the games the platform ran: 1) Music made using sounds available on the platform (where possible) 2) The platform's boot screen (if possible) 3) Commercial influences usually in the form of the platform's marketing jingle. 4) The platform's packaging. In this way, the platform video itself gives an accurate interpretation of what the platform is, was marketed as, and what it looked and sounded like. In this video, the beginning displays the NTSC box design that expands into the PAL version to display gameplay. Submitter mcfilmmakers Submitted 04/08/2018 Category Platform Theme Videos

  22. Hey guys, I have this concept/idea for an Xbox Original theme (4:3 and 16:9 Ratio) and was wondering if anyone could make this concept a reality. Hyperkin has developed a new "Duke" controller for the Xbox One/PC so having the controller and a Big Box theme to match it would be cool in my opinion. I would develop it myself if I had any coding experience. Would anyone want to take a stab at it? Here's some images and a psd file of what I had in mind. 1920x1080 1600x1200 Template Xbox Original Dashboard with blur/noise effect Font I used: https://www.dafont.com/imagine-font.font PSD Files: Xbox_Original_Theme.psd Xbox_Original_Theme_2.psd

This for use with Grila's awesome Nintendo Switch theme. There are existing Switch-themed startup videos - which I love - but the audio isn't quite perfect and I wanted to create something that better suits my setup. This reworked version contains larger logos, smoother transitions, better audio, a more consistent-looking Big Box brand and a little faux 'loading' screen, just to tie everything together. The Startup vid is 10 seconds long, so it won't linger for very long. I've also created a suite of matching high-resolution platform banners that are intended for the Switch theme, which you can find here. Enjoy.

  25. Can anyone help me identify which theme is being used at the very beginning of the Big Box Multi-Theme Demo video on YouTube? It's so awesome looking. I've searched through so many of the Theme downloads but can't seem to find it.
