  1. Edit: (August 26, 2021) beta version 0.03. Now strips (regions) and (notes) from game Titles. Added notes [below] for downloading Metadata. Edit: (June 28, 2021) beta version 0.02. Now supported in LaunchBox Version 11.3 and up. This plugin will import “Custom” made MAME xml files. With this plugin, you can import games from a Custom xml file into any Platform (new or existing) and set the Emulator for the imported games to whatever you want, regardless of the Platforms default Emulator (if importing to an existing one). If you import them into a new Platform, the “Scrape As” for the Platform will be set to “Arcade”. The xml file MUST be laid out in a standard MAME Machines format. MAME’s softlist xml files are formatted differently and WILL NOT work with this plugin. (Use the other plugin) This only imports the games into LaunchBox giving them their 'proper' game Name/Title as per MAME. Use LaunchBox's built in Download Metadata and Media Wizard to get you game data, images and videos. You'll also need to setup any required Custom Command Line Parameters for your Emulators (i.e. DEmul - for Naomi needs "-run=naomi -rom= ") History Years ago I imported a personally ‘curated’ set of MAME roms into LB/BB. This left out a lot of games available in MAME Including clones and games (partially or otherwise) unplayable in MAME. Including Sega Model 2/3, and Naomi. I keep this “personally curated set” in my D:\LaunchBox\Games\Arcade folder. I have also keep a Full (non-merged) set updated on my backup drive. Thought being, keep the games available in LaunchBox, “inside” LaunchBox while maintaining my full set elsewhere. As time went on and my Cab and I ‘matured’, I discovered SuperModel and DEmul. Great! But I can’t even create Playlists because these games aren’t ‘pre-existing’ in LB. So now it’s just a matter of getting those roms from the full set into LB/BB. That’s where this plugin comes into play. Using the plugin Download and unblock the zip. Copy the folder inside the zip into your ../LaunchBox/Plugins folder. i.e. D:\LaunchBox\Plugins\ImportMAMExml\MAMExmlImporter.dll Start LaunchBox. Select Tools, MAME xml Importer beta 0.03 The process should be fairly intuitive by just going through the Import Wizard. Select the folder where your Custom xml files are located. Select an xml. Choose a Platform (new or existing). Select your Emulator. Filter the clones (Import: All, as additional apps, none). Select the roms’ source folder (if copying them). Select the roms’ destination folder (required to set the launch path for the games). Select Copy & Import or Import Only. Downloading Metadata Right click on the new Platform and select “Edit”. Make sure the Scrape As: is set to “Arcade” and then click “OK”. Click on one of the games, then press CTRL+A to select all games. Now click Tools and select Download Metadata and Media and follow the prompts. Be sure to check the box for: Search for game information and media from the LaunchBox Games Database (recommended). I recommend at this point to not download Media. [just to make sure all goes well with getting the metadata] Click on Select None when prompted (again if you have an EmuMovies account). Click Yes, download and replace all existing metadata and media. Then click Finish. Creating your own Custom xml I imagine there are many different ways to do this and even places to download them. Here’s 2 methods to create your own Custom xml. In MAME itself: You’ll need the “driver.ini” file which you can get from http://www.progettosnaps.net/renameset/. Click on “category.ini (0.22x)” to download. Inside the zip file, copy the “folders” folder into your D:\MAME\ini directory. D:\emulators\MAME\ini\folders\ You may need to add ;ini\folders to your “mame.ini”, “inipath” line. (?) # # CORE SEARCH PATH OPTIONS # homepath . rompath roms hashpath hash samplepath samples artpath artwork ctrlrpath ctrlr inipath ini;ini/folders Open MAME and click “Category” [on the left pane]. Now select “File <driver.ini>”. Under “Group” select the driver you want to sort by and then “Return to Previous Menu” You’ll now see only the games (56 in this case) for this particular driver. Now click the yellow floppy disk at top [“Export displayed list to a file”] and double click “Export list in XML format (like –listxml, but exclude devices)”. Your “Custom” xml will be saved to D:\emulators\MAME\ui\exported.xml. If you do more than one, they will be named “exported_0000.xml”, “exported_0001.xml” and so on. Tip: If you want to expand you sort filters, instead of “Category” select “Custom Filter” (selecting the File and Group as one of your filters). Using the Arcade Database website: http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/default.php Click “Machines” “Additional Filters” “Driver” tab Under “Source File”, type in the driver you want to filter by. Click Search. You’ll now be seeing just the games for that driver/source file. Now click “Options” and select “Export the results”. Give it a Title. Click “MAME (xml)” and click “Export”. Your file is now downloaded. Tip: Look through the other tabs for more filter options. I don't know if this is practical or even useful for anyone else. Or if there's already an easier way to do it. But it was fun to make AND it works. At least it does on my cab. If you decide to try it and have any thoughts, suggestion or whatever (good, bad or indifferent), ... leave a post letting me know. I’ve tried reinstalling multiple times with no fix. Please send help! I see a bunch of people have this issue and no one has an answer so far!

To Hillbilly or NOT to Hillbilly, that is the question! This is my first attempt with themes and I'm not sure if it was is ready to share yet, but I did. I'm sure there are things that need fixin' that I haven't found yet. It sure ain't perfect and I'm still a workin' on it as I learn. I want to especially thank the folks that replied to my questions in the forums as I worked on this. I also want to say thanks to ALL the great folks of the LB/BB community that simply contribute. They are incredible folks spending 1000s of hours of their time creating new content or taking ideas that others have shared and coming up with new things, designs and looks and share it with us. I am sure many of you can do it with this theme even and reciprocate it back to all of us. Enough about that. Bigbox is all about being able to customize things to your preferences. I really like much of the different Unified themes out there. I also really like the Colorful themes and the Colorful videos. Hillbillies patch things together with bailing wire and duct tape. Me being a "briarhopper" aka hillbilly (couldn't find enough artwork for briarhoppers), and patching things together like we do, I borrowed from the different version of the Unified and Colorful themes. The Hillbilly Edition theme is more of a Unified type theme, but I added some of the features and colors to go well with the Colorful videos, like the Fanart Backgrounds I created for it. One of the main reasons I decided to try to do this was to do something more with Play Modes. I wanted, especially for my large collection, a easy way to see the play modes quickly. So I turned all this into my own mess the best I could. In the older days, you had Single or Multiplayer games, but now there are so many more play mode options. Now there are play modes like Single, Local Multiplayer, MMO (online multiplayer), Co-op, PvP, Simultaneous, Alternating, Shared Screen, Split Screen, Virtual Reality, and all the others and different combinations of them. If you watched the video, maybe you noticed the Players section shown at the bottom of the video. I created over 120+ playmode images to accomplish this (Of course, I still have many games that are not fixed in my collection and you will see that too). It was pretty easy to change all my Play Modes using the bulk edit feature in LaunchBox, and of course I continue to fix games if I find one that isn't correct or has no play mode as I run across them. In the screenshots, I tried showing the different Platforms first, then the Wheel Games, then the Text Games views. There is also one screenshot of each platform that is without the hillbilly using the Un-hillbilly video borders. The video shows more. Video Example What's used in the video: - Startup Video - Robot Voices sound pack - Hillbilly Edition theme (templates are included in the appropriate folders to personalize) - Colorful videos (with a few generic platform videos I attempted to make, that can be downloaded from here) - Platform Clear Logos (included in the theme) - Gold Rating Stars (included in the theme) - Platform Fanart Background images (included in the theme) - Hillbilly Edition-Startup Theme - Hillbilly Edition-Pause Theme Other Downloads: (you might be able to use some of these in other themes) - Un-hillbilly VideoBorders if you want to remove the hillbilly - VideoBorders without the Play Mode legend (looks cleaner and not really needed once you get the hang of how the play mode images work) - Fanart Platform backgrounds to match the Colorful videos (these are included in theme) - Different colors of Star Icons for rating stars - Legend template & Legend Images to make you own legends for Play Modes. - Blank Clear Logo image to make you own Platform Clear Logos - Colorful type platform videos I made until Viking makes the good stuff. - Extra Platform and Collection Backgrounds (500 of them, most were included with one of the other Unified versions) Instructions: Download & extract. Place the "Hillbilly Edition" folder in the "..\Launchbox\theme\" folder Download any of the extra things you might like to use or change, like the VideoBorders or Stars. Each download should have a Readme.txt in it as well as the template (if there was one). A lot of the stuff is included with the theme already, so check above to make sure not to download it again. I uploaded them seperate so folks might download them to use with other themes, like folks using the Colorful videos might like the Fanart Backgrounds. Additional Notes: - To stop spinning game cartidges, you need to go into BB Options > Views and make sure to check "Remember Seperate View for Each Platform", then back out of the Options and use the <TAB> key on your keyboard to change views until you get the views you want. - If you want to change the Options background, there are a couple alternates called Background (Alt).jpg, just rename the one you want to use to "Background.jpg" or put any jpg image you want to use in the MainMenu folder and name it to Background.jpg. (I recommend at least 1920x1080, but I tried using 3840x2160 throught the theme) - To achieve the side-ways view of the cartridges, I turned all my cartridge images 90 degrees using a free image editor called FS-Image Editor in just a couple minutes. - I also resize all my images using FS-Image Editor (usually once a year or so). It can save a ton of HDD space and it also makes everything more uniform. So if you have something out of whack as far as sizes, like boxes way to big, you might wanna give this a try. Bonus: I wanted to make sure anyone could change the theme as easy as possible to their own tastes. Dont like something I did in the theme? No problem, swap out the hillbilly for a picture of your dog. I have included all the Photoshop templates. Some as simple as clicking things off/on and saving your changes. You can completely re-do about any part of the theme using nothing more that Photoshop and Notepad++. I just barely get by with Photoshop, so if I can do it, I'm sure you can too. I hope you enjoy the theme!! I appreciate any and all comments, reviews, likes, etc.. If ya have any questions or issues, let me know and I will get back as best I can.

  5. I just wanted to share with the forum what my first full cabinet build turned out like. I am not a handy person by any means, but am very proud of the fact that I built this by myself, with the exception of a few things. I am still fine tuning all of the lighting with LEDBlinky and fixing any issues I find while playing games or anything. I am lucky enough to work in a print shop so I was able to print and install my own graphics. I used the design of the "Pathways" cabinet and "Flynns Arcade" that I saw in the arcadecontorls.com forums and used that as my starting point for the look. I'm really proud of the way it turned out and love the way it looks. I Still have some little things I want to do, get slip rings for the rgb wires on the joysticks to keep thing from tangling (unless someone has a different suggestion). I also in the future would like to switch to using 2 PACLed64's and a iPAC 4, I think I could lay those out better and wire manage better with those (my wire management left a lot to be desired with my iPacUltimate and 1 PACLed64, but it works). In the future I may switch to wireless controllers rather than wired for console games that use them, this would also solve the issue of retroarch being difficult to assign device order to. Other than those things I don't know what else I would change with this current build. I am running my old pc as the emulation machine, with some upgraded parts to make it run some things a little better, here is this rigs specs: i3-9100F 3.6Ghz Geforce GTX 970 SSC 4GB 16 GB RAM 256 GB SSD 1TB Storage Drive Gigabyte B365M Motherboard Liquid Cooling for CPU DIYPC Cuboid-R Black/Red tower Let me know what you think, was happy to finally be able to share my cabinet!
  6. Im looking into my first build in a really long time and i was wondering what the community thought about cpu vs apu build. Any input is appreciated.

These are some platform videos I have made to fill gaps in my setup that had not previously been done. I use Viking's Nostalgia theme, so the videos are in that style. They might not be as great as Viking's quality work but they do the job. I like to split some of my systems up into different categories/platforms. As the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive is my favorite system I have split it up into what you will find here. 9. I've came up with this theme layout but when I tried to follow the tutorial on how to setup a custom theme it was a total disaster, so if you guys could help me out with pointers on how to get started, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you
  10. Here is a video of some custom videos and platform clear logos I have made for the SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis which is my favorite console. I like to split some of the systems up into various regions and categories etc. Number 1 and 4 in the list are the standard ones created by @viking and the rest I did myself. The first minute of the video is scrolling down to the MD / Gen. The regions and categories are: SEGA Genesis SEGA Mega Drive (Brazil) SEGA Mega Drive (China) SEGA Mega Drive (Europe) SEGA Mega Drive (Japan) SEGA Mega Drive (Prototypes) SEGA Mega Drive (SEGA Game Toshokan) SEGA Mega Drive (Sonic Hacks) SEGA Mega Drive (SOR Hacks) SEGA Mega Drive (Translations) SEGA Mega Drive (Unlicensed) I have made other custom videos and the likes for other platforms but will show it all off when I have completely finished, probably in fifty years. The video is unlisted on YouTube so if there is any problems viewing it let me know and I will change it.

  13. All, I'm new to the Launchbox scene and I am unable to get any custom theme to work. I'm running the latest 6.9 version and the custom themes(Minimal HD and Metallic) I've dl'd are visible in Big Box mode. My problem is when the theme is selected from the Options>View menu the changes do not take affect. The default theme is still in place when I back out, even though the settings have changed and saved. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
  14. Hi guys, A few weeks ago I set out on the task of making myself a HTPC, but I wanted something special, so I shoved a whole computer inside of an original xbox case. Finished Product: Specs (Already had some components from previous build): PCPartPicker part list: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/K4Z7bj CPU: Intel - Core i5-7600 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (£201.00 @ Amazon UK) CPU Cooler: Silverstone - AR06 40.2 CFM CPU Cooler (Purchased For £0.00) Motherboard: ASRock - H270M-ITX/ac Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard (£108.16 @ BT Shop) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory (£112.98 @ Ebuyer) Storage: Western Digital - Green 120GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive (£52.31 @ CCL Computers) Storage: Seagate - Momentus SpinPoint 2TB 2.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For £0.00) Storage: Seagate - Archive 8TB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For £0.00) Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Low Profile Video Card (£138.16 @ CCL Computers) Power Supply: SeaSonic - 300W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular Flex ATX Power Supply (£60.00) Other: NOCTUA NF-A6x25 PWM (£11.90) Other: Original Xbox (£15.00) Total: £699.51 Some Comments: Graphics card never reaches 65c~ under load Processor almost never reaches 70c~ under load I was really worried the small FlexATX power supply would sound like a jet as its basically a server power supply, but the fan is completely silent, even under load. I had to check that the fan was working as I was getting worried but all is good! Fans are audible in a quiet room but any noise will drown them out (like from a TV). Side fan is set to silent, I don't think I needed to use it with the middle cut out and meshed. Runs Windows 10 Enterprise with a custom shell that boots into Kodi for TV, Movies, Music, etc. Has the option to launch BigBox for emulation. It can run anything up to and including Wii U games (Although that emulator is still in development!). Build Log Album (Has lots of comments on how I made it): http://imgur.com/gallery/V3G2j If you guys have any questions feel free to ask
  15. Hey guys - it's me again with another stupid question I'm sure. After watching Jason and Wood and Brad's videos I finally upgraded to a lifetime Premium account. I'm really loving Launchbox and Big Box makes it just that much better. So my question - I'm loving the custom big box themes that are available. I've downloaded a handful of them (most per Woods' recommendation) but i can't seem to get any of the background images to show. I can get the fanart or clear logos but for ones like CityHunter that have all those great videos or Minimal AO has a whole folder of backgrounds that I have no clue how where to put them etc, just to name a couple. Is there an easy way to add or specify a background image that's not the random fanart or clear logo? Or to make a great theme like CityHunter's not just have a blank black screen on all the platforms? Excuse my ignorance. Trying to figure this out on my own had had me pulling my hair out and it's not like i have a lot to begin with anymore Thanks guys! LG
  16. So this has been driving me crazy for way too long. All i want is for my various arcade systems to display their system specific overlays when running a rom. I want my CPS1 one games to use the CPS1 overlay, the CPS2 games to use the CPS2 overlay, the Konami classics to use their Konami Classics overlay, etc. Ill try to explain what I have done but maybe I am doing something wrong that is keeping this from working. I load up launchbox and click on manage emulators. First off I do have an "Arcade" category that covers all of my games. This is using the mame_libretro core. My parameters for this Associated Platform are: -L "cores\mame_libretro -c "config\mame_libretro.cfg" with the default box checked. This works all fine and great and I can use the MAME overlay and shaders with no problem. When I create an Associated Platform Capcom Play System with the Default Command Line Parameters set to -L "cores\fbalpha2012_cps1_libretro.dll" -c "config\fbalpha2012_cps1_libretro.cfg" with the Default Emulator box checked Launchbox continues to open Retroarch with the mame-libretro core. This also happens no matter what order I change in the Default Emulator boxes between the mame core and the fbalpha 2012 cps1 core. Also, I get the same outcome when I setup the CPS2 and CPS3 cores. The only way I can get Retroarch to fire up if I select to play a cps1 game is if I change the Default Line Parameters for Arcade under the Associated Platform column in the Manage Emulators menu to the fb alpha parameters. Another thing that I find weird is that if I open retroarch, load up a core, and then load the config file for that core the application closes down. Not sure if this is normal. I would love any help, if possible. I tried to include as much information as I could in this post to help further a solution. The only thing that I have not tried is deleting all of my games within Launchbox and then re-importing each platform individually and setting up their parameters, rather than importing them all as just a general Arcade category using one MAME core to run them all.
  17. So, I've begun work on making custom overlay & "hint" graphics, and found a really nice pack some awesome people put together and made available over here at Open Game Art. I've attached the whole thing here (so we've got it in case the original host goes down), as well as some examples out of this pack in case you're wondering what these look like. These seem to be nice vector images, with most buttons 100x100, which is smallish in the grand scheme of things but just about perfect for use as on-screen help graphics.
