  1. I’ve recently acquired a broken F355 twin cab (well, half of one at least) so I set about with renewed vigor trying to finally get this game to work full screen using the Demul emulator. If you intend to play F355 with a standard controller - stop reading; The Dreamcast version is so accurate the difference isn’t worth the effort, it’s easier to setup and the sensitivity of the controls will work far better for you (ditto the PS2 version probably). If, however you’re also doing a racing game arcade conversion or are similarly ‘insert coin’ inclined – read on. I've cobbled together a number of pointers I’ve learned along the way for getting the Naomi version of F355 to work in full screen while also being somewhat integrated with Launchbox. It’s work-in-progress, hacking together bits of information I've stubbled across from AHK scripts to the correct settings (or at least one's I got working) in Demul emulator and in Launchbox. Often drawing on these very forums. A big thank you to this community and everyone who has unknowingly helped me out in my various projects over the years. I’m very keen to get pointers from anyone who’s achieved this a better way but info is scarce so i thought i'd share what i've managed so far. Hopefully the following might prove useful to someone: A couple of assumptions to bear in mind: I'm using an older version of Demul v0.7 from April 2018 that allows you to select ‘GPUDX11old' plugin. I assume the same works on the new version Demul v0.7a but hasn’t been tested (that's the version that forces you to use the new GPUDX11 where you don’t get to change things like internal resolution). For some reason, my experience running F355 and F355 2 doesn’t require the second (first???) Naomi bios window to be the active window in order to control the game (but I'm unable to access the game test menus to change settings unless I make it so). This is something I regularly heard had to be done - but I’ve never had to, so your mileage may vary. Get your game test menu settings sorted first then hopefully you won’t have to worry. I’m using an Xbox control pad here – but intend to move the PC into my F355 arcade cab using Ipac board or some such device. I've got an Auto Hotkey script that automatically forces the main window to full-screen on launch, without boarders or windows titles displaying. So, you'll need AHK installed if you haven’t already (maybe it can be done ‘natively’ within LB’s emulator ahk settings but I haven’t tried yet). My work-around works on both F355 twin (F355twin.zip) and F355 2 twin (F255twn2.zip). It would have to be amended to work with the deluxe versions, which have 4 Naomi board windows open at the same time instead of just 2. I haven’t yet devised a clean way to exit F355 from LB/BB - but I have some thoughts on how it might be achieved. But the following steps I hope will be helpful even if you’re not using LB. My PC is I7- 7700k, GTX1080TI, 16GB RAM I’m running Demul emulator at 5X internal resolution and it’s working fine for my setup. Remember Demul has to cache graphics and wot-not while it runs a game for the first time so your initial play through will stutter but when you go back to the same track again in should be fine. Finally, I don’t really know what I’m doing. But I’m persistent enough that once I’ve got something in my head I usually manage to get it working in a way that is (almost) good enough for me. Hopefully it’s helpful for the one other person that might be trying the same thing 😊 Step 1: Get the game working in Demul first. Worry about LB integration later. Check, double check and triple check all of your paths and plugin paths within the emulator, setup your controls and display setting etc, and you’ve got the right ROM and bios files in the right place Set your ‘window display’ in the video display to match your screen’s native resolution - and disable launch full screen (it doesn't work anyway for F355). V-sync works quite well with no noticeable input delay and definitely helps with a consistent frame rate on my monitor.. There are other tutorials showing you how to setup Demul and run Naomi games, however specific to my work around you'll need to turn-off VMU display in the Maple plugin settings - otherwise for some reason they continue to display: (If you need your VMU displays for other games, you can always have separate instances of Demul in different folders and they can have their own separate settings – you’ll just need to set them up as separate emulators in LB): When you set the controls in Demul, make sure you remember what you've set for the Naomi arcade board test menu buttons - but also the default key for System boards (F2 and F4). You wouldn’t believe how long this had me stumped where F355 wasn’t starting because it was always looking for a network - I could not find a way to access the game’s test menu to change it because i was using the keys i assigned in the 'Arcade' controls but didn't see the defaults for 'System Boards' that i should have been using! Step 2: Run game and configure Test menu settings With the game now running, enter the test menu and make any changes to the game settings that you require (remembering the test buttons you set above). To enter the test menus, make sure your black Naomi bios window is the one in focus, hit the key you assigned - then navigate to the test menu. For me, I had to change ‘Link ID’ from Master to Single and Cabinet set to 'Twin'. Go to Game Test Mode > Game Assignments and you'll find these settings. That's it you can exit the settings, bring the main game window back into focus and play the game! Or is it...? The windowed view really sucks; the window title and Demul options tabs always displayed even if maxamised... and horrible boarders. Before you close the multiple windows, make an exact note of the window title displaying on the window the game is actually running in (also make a note of the most common SPG and GPU fluctuations that are also contained in this title). This will make sense in the next step. Mine looks exactly like this: gpuDX11oldhw | spg: 60 gpu: 60 | Multiboard Slave Step 3: setup new AHK script file: You'll need AHK installed. Setup a script by editing in Notepad for your .AHK file and save to an appropriate location so you can point LB towards it later. If you’re not using LB, you can just manually run the script before launching Demul and it will still work. I cobbled together the following script from various sources - and no doubt there’s a much more efficient way of doing this but essentially, when the script is ran it then waits for the 'gpuDX11oldhw | spg: 60 gpu: 60 | Multiboard Slave' window to display (until my GPU reaches 60 it won't trigger - so your number might be specific to the performance of your system running Demul). When this window generates, the script forces Window’s to focus it on top of the pile, then removes the boarders, title and menu of the window and forces it to full screen. The script then stops and the window is left in full focus and the game still playable. Copy the following into notepad then save as .ahk file: Loop { ifwinexist gpuDX11oldhw | spg: 60 gpu: 60 | Multiboard Slave If (ErrorLevel = 0 ) { WinActivate Winmaximize WinSet, Style, -0xC40000, A DllCall("SetMenu", uint, WinExist(), uint, 0) ; Remove menu bar of "last found window". Break } Else Sleep 1000 Continue } #SingleInstance force You can use the same script for F355 and F355 2 as the Slave window title is the same for both. 4: Launchbox setup Import the rom files and setup Demul as an emulator in LB, if you haven’t already. These are my LB emulator settings: Add your Associated platforms on the second tab in the wizard as normal but also key a default command line – type it, don’t copy and paste as I think that causes issues: -run=naomi -rom= Startup and Pause screen - I think you can set to however you want to hide mouse etc - but I probably wouldn't suggest enabling any of the aggressive window hiding start up options due to the multiple widows required to run this game. Running autohotkey script - I add the existing one to close down emulator using Esc. Again an issue with F355 is that there are (at least) 2 windows open when the game is running. Exiting the game via LB, shuts down one instance of the emulator but not the other (by now the game freezes as the Naomi bios has been removed) and you’ll have to ALT+F4 out of it. I've not solved this problem yet - but something added to the 'press esc to close emulator' AHK available on these forums (or a fresh script), to follow with another instruction to wait a second then auto apply a single press of ALT+F4 to force the remaining Naomi slave game window to close (the theory works, I just need to remember the correct AHK script to achieve these automatically). With the emulator setup, edit the F355 game settings in LB by right clicking on the game and selecting 'edit'. Then select ‘Additional Apps’. Add the AHK script file you put together earlier and tick ‘Automatically run before main application: Save, and should be job done. You might also need to add the Demul emulator command line here too: No idea why, but sometimes I need it here, sometimes it’s just fine using only the line I added in the emulator wizard setting (I’ve got at least 5 instances of Demul setup for various games/platform preferences – horrible way of doing things but it works for me for now). Here’s command again just in case: -run=naomi -rom= Now, when you select F355 from LB it will tick over as usual while it loads, then switch to full screen, no boarders, still controllable! IMG_5008.MOV If any one has any idea on how i can streamline the 'maximise window' AHK script - and help with a script that will combine the existing 'Esc to exit' script with a delayed Alt+F4 command to cleanly exit the left-over F355 screen - that would save me a job. No doubt far easier to achieve this end result using Retroarch - but it's the one emulator I can't get on with because of it's playlist/rom name requirements no matter what i do. It's a shame as i love a lot of the options some of the Cores provide but where i have managed to get it working on certain systems, it's been more by luck - so have always avoided it where possible.
  2. Hello All, This is a follow up to my previous post regarding demul and Sega Naomi. I was able to import the Naomi games thanks to @DOS76, unfortunately when I try to launch a GD rom, demul appears but nothing happens after that. I receive no errors from Launchbox or Demul. Could this be an issue with a plugin in Demul? Non-GD roms are able to launch fine and I have the roms & bios directory highlighting my mame folder with a merged chd set included. Thanks!
  3. Hi! I stumbled upon a problem with the NAOMI and NAOMI 2 system. I tried different emulators and each one has his own problems. Can't figure it out. If hope to get one of these emulators to work. First Emulator: DEMUL v0.7 alpha I can get DEMUL to launch through Launchbox but it give me the error:"Unable to find 'epr-21576d.ic27' in romset naomi". But that file is located in the directory that I assigned to the games and roms. The type of game rom files are *.zip and contains type *.ic* files. Maybe I'm using incompatibele rom files? In the settings menu I tried already the 3 different rom options (gdrimage, gdrCHD, gdrDEMUL). What's the correct one with these type of files? Command lines (-run=naomi -rom=) are put in the right place, Correct boxes are checked. Note: I also use DEMUL for Sammy Atomiswave and that works perfect with launchbox. Once you put in the proper command line (-run=awave -rom=) and check the right boxes. Second Emulator: RetroArch 1.7.5 with reicast core Starting the game in RetroArch through Launchbox works, the game starts but I get black screen. I know the game is in running the background because I hear sound when I use the controls. I used the epr-21576g.ic27 (2048kB) that I renamed and put in the ...\system\dc\ folder. Help Thx a bunch!
  4. Hi guys, I have a little problem with Demul in Launchbox. If I start the games directly with Demul then start without problems. After I want to start but with Launchbox opens a program window for 1-2 seconds and closes immediately (CMD ) . I have no idea what I'm doing wrong I've set everything right also the checkboxes No space before rom and Use file name only without file extensio n or folder path. So what am I doing wrong? soory for my bad english i am from germany ^^
  5. Hello all, To cut to the chase I'm having issues importing Sega naomi games into Launchbox. When the import process is done I get a message stating that '0 games have been imported'. I suspect that is is an issue I mistakenly caused, deleted the games from their folders then removed them in launchbox from what I remember, since this was a few months back. I checked the form and I think it could be a xml file but I'm not sure. I haven't tried other platforms yet. Thanks!

This is a collection of Sega Naomi 3D boxes with Discs. As the Naomi library has a lot of different versions of the same game and flyers are not available for a lot of games, and certainly not for all the different versions, I decided on one box and disc per game. These 3D boxes are loosely based around what a real Naomi game box looks like with real discs. I figured manuals could be used as box art. 7. Hi! I've been using Launchbox about 2 year ago (maybe less) and whenever I have had any doubts or queries, i´ve have assistance and support of many members of the community. That´s why I would like to make a small contribution with what I've been looking for, and I have not found updated (maybe I failed to look good). Based on the fantastic work of DOS76, Sentaibrad and Lordmonkus, who are the authors of the files that I have used as a basis to make ".bat" files to copy roms from machines not emulated in MAME: Model2 Model3 Hikaru Naomi Naomi2 Atomiswave Gaelco These files are updated to be used with the 207 version of MAME. Simply put the corresponding ".bat" file in the Mame ROMS folder or wherever the fullset of mame 207 is. And what it will do is to create a folder with a copy of all the roms of each machine. It´s one file per machine. I hope they´ll be useful (The are 2 files in each rar indeed. The other one is a "control" file but it has no uso to the process) Sorry for my english and thank you SystemsMAME207.zip

This set of Cartridges with 3D Boxes is designed to replace some games in my NAOMI GD-Rom set. Some games were released as cartridges only for the NAOMI and not as GD-Roms but I would only add these if you want a Naomi set which is as accurate as possible but may not look as neat as just using the GD ROM set. 11. Sega Naomi 3D Boxes With Discs (151) (GD-ROM set) View File This is a collection of Sega Naomi 3D boxes with Discs. 13. Alright, so I am presently using a mixture of MAME and Demul for my Launchbox rig. I love that Demul has functionality for not just Dreamcast, but also for Sega Naomi/Naomi 2 and Sammy Atomiswave as well. Overall, Demul is great for all my purposes and I have it pretty seamlessly integrated with the rest of my Bigbox lineup, complete with a key bound to quit. However, it recently came to my attention that my high scores have not been saving in the various Naomi games I have. I first realized then when I inputted the code in Cannon Spike's bios to unlock hidden characters, only for them to be gone when I returned. I did some digging and realized that Demul only saves the game's nvram when you do a proper exit from the game(s) (File>Exit in the Demul window itself), which requires you to have a keyboard handy to alt-tab and completely defeats the purpose of a seamless arcade experience (I have mine in a proper multicade cabinet). Of course, I am pretty sure there's no way to get Autohotkey to tell Demul to save the nvram before closing, all I'm doing now is using the simple code below: sleep 5000 MouseMove, 1920,1080 ~5:: Process, Close, {{{StartupEXE}}} It does the trick, but of course does not allow for Demul to write to nvram and therefore does not save any of the machine highscores or configurations. I did find that, at the very least, if I input any machine codes or modify configurations and then "properly close" Demul, it does save it permanently, but this isn't really sustainable for the way I am using the emulator. Does anybody have any suggestions for ways to force Demul to write to nvram or save high scores upon quitting that can be seamlessly integrated so the user doesn't have to do any extra steps? Any suggestions are appreciated!
  14. So, I've been trying to troubleshoot this for a while now, but I just can't seem to get the Naomi Metal Slug 6 conversion to run properly in Launchbox. It runs fine when I launch it in Demul, although I do have to launch it via "Load decrypted rom", as it is a custom hack. The file itself is a ".bin" file, so I am not sure if this has anything to do with the problems I'm having. Here's my a screenshot of my default Naomi setup for Demul that I'm trying to run this conversion with (works perfectly for all normal Naomi games). When I run it with this setup, it just pops up with a demul window and the games list for Naomi. Any suggestions?
  15. Hello all!! I am a proud lifetime purchaser of LaunchBox and after messing with it for 2 weeks now, I have only come across one issue, which should indicate how great of a program it is! I am using DEmul in LaunchBox so that I may play some of my favorites like House of the Dead 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, etc on my MAME cabinet. However, there is a very weird issue. I am not sure if it is a glitch or what. If I enter DEmul by double clicking the executable and running the games that way, games save just fine. A good example of a game that needs to save is Marvel vs Capcom 2, because you don't want to lose the experience/unlocked characters every time you exit the game. However, if you use LaunchBox, that is exactly what happens. For whatever reason, when launching any Naomi/DEmul games with Launchbox, the NVRAM file is never written/updated. Only when Demul is opened normally in Windows will it save the NVRAM file progress. I am using the latest version of LaunchBox with the latest version of DCEmul in a Windows 10 environment if it helps! Does anybody know what is going on? I saw one other member here complain about this but there wasn't any fix posted. Any advice to this very strange issue would be greatly appreciated!

  17. Hi guys, I have an issue with DEmul, I've tried with both Dreamcast and Naomi 2, they run great windowed but when I go fullscreen it just freezes. I can then ALT+ENT back to windowed mode but the emulation will stop and I have to restart the emulator. If I select 'Start in Fullscreen' it just goes black when I boot a game and not even the BIOS screen will load. I've messed around with different settings, edited the .ini files and disabled DPI scalings in the Windows demul.exe properties but no luck. Whatever I try, it will just freeze. Is there anything I can put into Launchbox command line to fix this or would I have more luck over at the dedicated DEmul forums? I've attached my DEmul settings here and have never had issues with any other emulators fullscreen (eg: Dolphin) Thanks so much.
  18. About ready to start building a cabinet, but still stuck getting a few MAME systems working with LaunchBox. Goal is before I start construction, I have the software issues sorted out. I'm doing this all on my PC for now, making detailed notes for each system... it's not the system that will be used, I haven't purchased that yet. Right now, my enemy is Naomi. I have Capcom vs Streetfighter II. I tried with my MAME emulator, and it starts... Naomi logo comes up, choppy sound, fades away then Loading Game appears and that's it. I downloaded DEMUL but can't get the game to load. In passing in another thread someone mentioned that I need to add "-run=naomi -rom=" to the command line, which I did but no change. DEMUL loads, but can't get the game to load. Been doing pretty good with MAME stuff so far, though still having as many issues as I have victories with getting games to run. Hoping to one-by-one get these sorted out... this is #1 on my list. Anyone have any experience with DEMUL and/or Capcom vs Streetfighter II? Like this
