  1. Starplayer's Local Scraper for Launchbox View File This program is a scraper for your video files, to be used with launchbox. ------------What it does:------------ Imagine you have in your possesison a full collection of video snaps and theme videos for launchbox. Now, you might just have them all in your launchbox\videos\ folder, and everything will work. However, you might prefer to have only some games that you like in your launchbox installation, in a faster SSD, or you might have a Raspberry Pi, which has limited space. In those cases, you will want to only get the videos that correspond to the games you have in launchbox. This program does that automatically for you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------How do you use this program then??------------ Glad you ask! -1: set the path of your launchbox installation. Usually C:\program Files\Launchbox for example -2: set the path of the folder in which you have your full video collection. For example D:\Launchbox Videos\ -3: Check the checkboxes "Run for videos snaps" and "Run for Themes" depending on if you want to get game snaps, theme videos, or both -4: Press Run ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------Things to have in consideration:------------ You have to have your video folders with the same name of the folders in the launchbox directory. ie, if a folder is called "sega saturn" in launchbox, the correspondent in the folder that containsall your videos can't be called only "saturn". The blue button "Correct Names of video folders attempts to solve this, but you should check. If you want, you can run the program for just one game platform. To do that, check "Run for One Platform Only", press "Get Platforms" and select the platform you want to run for. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------"Other Options" explanation:------------ --"Ignore platform if no original videos are present" - check this if you don't want to be reminded thatthe program didn't found any videos for a specific platform. --"Rename original videos": check this if you also want the original videos in your video collection to bepermanently renamed to the name that launchbox is expecting for each game. Any suggestions, you can find me on Launchbox's forum. You're welcome. Be happy. Starplayer Submitter starplayer Submitted 12/16/2018 Category Third-party Apps and Plugins

  3. Hello! I recently upgraded from a gaming laptop to a gaming desktop. I took the SSD out of my laptop and put it into my desktop to put the OS and games on. When i copied over all of my launchbox files and roms i put them onto the secondary stock mechanical HDD that came with the computer to save space. Of course, it is much slower within BigBox and all of the menus compared to when i had the SSD in the laptop. I dont want to eat up my main drive with roms, but if i put the Launchbox installation onto my SSD along with all of the images and meta data, and kept the roms on my secondary mechanical SSD would it benefit the menu speed? Or should i move the roms to the SSD as well? Not sure if BigBox looks at the directory for roms constantly or just loads them off a list of what i have loaded. Thanks!
  4. Just thought I would give people a little tutorial here on how to use "mklink" to create a Symbolic Link for the Launchbox Cache. Some people say it improves performance (I certainly noticed it) and some say they don't notice much of a difference, I guess it depends on your set up. This method worked for me very well when I moved the Cache to my SSD, I found that I could now use images set to there highest quality without any impact on performance and the images look great on a 4k TV. So here is what worked for me: 1. First download and install LINK SHELL EXTENSION found here http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html (be sure to install the dependency's first)You should now have the option when you right click on a file to "Pick Link Source". 2. On your SSD where you want your CACHE to be located create a folder called "CACHE" (I find that creating a Folder named something like "Launchbox Cache" and then placing the new Cache folder inside it works best). 3. Go to your Launchbox folder and find the original CACHE folder in the IMAGES folder and copy everything in the CACHE folder to your new CACHE folder on your SSD. (this may take a while, alternatively you could just delete everything in the original cache folder if you wish but you will have to repopulate it later after the folder is linked, not a big deal really I just leave launchbox in "attract mode" so the Cache gets filled up). 4. Once you have copied everything (or deleted everything) from the original CACHE folder also delete the actual ORIGINAL CACHE folder itself as well (this part is important). 5. now go to your SSD and right click your new CACHE folder (or the folder it's in) you created earlier and select "Pick Link Source" 6. now go to your IMAGES folder in launchbox right click it and select "Drop as Junction" This will automatically create a new CACHE folder (where you deleted the original) INSIDE the IMAGES folder with a little chain icon attached to it indicating that it is now linked to your SSD CACHE folder! That's it simple but took me a while to get my head around so I just thought I would post this. A way to test if this is working correctly is to do the same with your platform videos folder, if after following the instructions above your videos display properly, everything is working fine! or of course you could just watch the space left on your SSD as the cache fills up.

    SSD and HDD Split

I have a new computer build with 250GB M.2 SSD (largest I can afford at this time) and WD Black 5TB HDD. I need to place emulators, roms, bios, etc in different partitions. What should be on the SSD to get best performance. Could really use the advice. Thanks

    Sata vs M2 ssd

Has anyone compared the load times of the cover art between a ssd, regular hard drive, and m2 hard drive? I have a 250gb sata ssd running Windows but i have my launch box collection on a 8tb usb 3.0 hard drive. I have 3 sata 3.5 inch bays and 1 M2 slot in my computer. Should I get a sata hard drive or a M2 hard drive to put my launch box covers and media on? I will leave my roms on my 8tb usb hard drives. Thank you for any suggestions on this.
  7. Hello good afternoon! In my case I have 2 devices with LaunchBox, however I wanted to do the following: -> When I update one, where I put a ROM I can copy "only" the files it needs for this, since my folder has 80GB total, and copying from one place to another all the time is very time consuming. Example: In the External HD I put 2 roms of PS1, and when I get home to copy only those 2 roms and the files that I need for the LaunchBox to recognize what I did in the External HD. No need to copy everything again. Thank you
