  1. Performance and OS choice?

Hi, I'm fairly new to the whole arcade/emu scene but I was wondering what the best windows version is for running launchbox and emu's? Windows 7 or 10? I'm currently running win7 on: Asus H81M-K motherboard Intel Pentium G3258 - 3.2 GHz 8GB ram Palit GeForce GTX 750Ti StormX OC (2GB GDDR5) 22'' Ilyama lcd Monitor 128gb ssd (windows) and 2TB hdd for roms/emu/bigbox/... Also had some BigBox performance issues but turned out it was the BigCouch Theme that was causing troubles for me. Now using the new CityHunter Theme which mostly runs real smooth. Although sometimes it totally freezes at least thats what it looks like, when I hit the windows key on the keyboard and then back into to BigBox it works again. Maybe the following question is for this forum although all of you must have a ton of experience . MAME runs fine with most games but when playing Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat or even Final Fight it performs poorly. It runs around 70% and audio stutters. I'm only getting it to run around 100% by enabling "auto skip frames", audio improves but still not great. Does anybody has any advise for me? Many Thanks, newbie Kevin
  2. I created this program to resolve an issue I was running into with some RPG Maker based games that utilized custom fonts. I further improved this tool to add support for proxying games through Steam to utilize the Steam Overlay. I hope to grow it's utility based on user feedback. I've not uploaded this program here yet as it is only version 0.0.3.0 however it may be downloaded here (including the source code): DOWNLOAD BINARY AND/OR SOURCE >>GitHub<< GameLaunchProxy This application may be used as an in-between for other applications. This tool was created to resolve issues with RPG Maker games and older games where in the needed fonts would not be installed in the system and thus not not be available. The user may not wish to pollute their system fonts with additional fonts specifically for the purpose of one game. With this tool, fonts may be loaded at startup and removed at shutdown of the proxied application. Additional features will be noted as they are implemented. This tool can also be utilized for a 2 step proxied Steam launch of a chosen application/emulator/game. Features: Load fonts into Windows temporarily and unload them after execution. Fonts will also be removed on reboot. Some games may not detect the fonts are installed but will properly utilize them anyway. Aggressive Focus will attempt to pull the launched program into the foreground once per second for the number of configured seconds. Launching emulators and games through Steam via proxy. Core Tab The core configuration of the Proxy application is on this tab. For the Steam functions to work, the Steam userdata shortcut.vdf path must be set. To scrape the LaunchBox library the LaunchBox Library LaunchBox.xml path must be set. The Front End Shortcut section allows for the creation of shortcut paths for use in LaunchBox or another front end. Steam Shortcut Names To utilize the Steam Proxy feature a proxy shortcut must exist in Steam. This can be done with 1 click to the "Add Default" button. The LaunchBox library must be scraped to generate a platform and gamename list for the proper function of the advanced Steam Proxy functions, such as shortcut renaming. Platform names may be adjusted in the platform list. Game names are matched from the LaunchBox Library scrape to the stored name and platform information via the rom filename. If the library item is an archive, the contained file will also be checked for the case where the front end extracted the rom file. Launch Options These are the original functions of the GameLaunchProxy. Currently available are temporary font loading and forced game focus. "X:\path\to\proxy\GameLaunchProxy.exe" [-steam] [-steambigpicture] [-name <string>] [-fallbackname <string>] -proxy "X:\path\to\emulator\emulator.exe" "FULL\PATH\TO\ROM\FILE" -steam : optional, triggers the steam proxy logic -steambigpicture : optional, triggers steam big picture via steam proxy logic -name : Name for Steam shortcut. The system will try to find a SteamProxy.exe shortcut with this name and, failing that, rename the default shortcut. -fallbackname : Fallback name for the Steam shortcut. The system will try this name if all attempts at using -name fail. -proxy : REQUIRED, any instructions after this command will be run through the proxy %platformname% and %gamename% may be used in -name and -fallbackname, they will be filled from the Launchbox Library Scrape data based on rom filename Use Cases: Temporary Font Loading

  4. Hi, I made this script to start DeSmuMe (Stand-alone. Not RetroArch) in fullscreen automatically. These are the steps for using the script: 1) Extract the attached file "desmume.zip" in the folder where you have the executable of the emulator. 2) Open "desmume.vbs" with a text editor and replace "DeSmuME_0.9.11_x86.exe" with your executable file name. Save the file "desmume.vbs" 3) On launchbox go to Tools / Manage Emulators, select your DeSmuMe emulator and click Edit. 4) In "Emulator Application Path" select "desmume.vbs" file (Filter All Files in Browse) instead of the emulator executable. In "Default command-line parameters" enter "/rompath:" Check the option "No space before ROM" Click ok 4) Play Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ (If you bought it ) I'm a noob in vbscript, if you know an easier way to solve this problem, tips are welcome. (Sorry for bad Great Britainnnish) desmume.zip

  7. I just wanted to share the way I personally add windows games to launchbox. So I created a .bat file and added it to my emulators folder. The .bat file: pushd %~dp1 "%~nx1" Once you've created the bat file, add it as a new emulator in launchbox and add "windows" to associated platform. And now all you have to do is import the games exe as a rom file.

  9. ProjectTalk:- Bezels Bezels Bezels

Like many people here I am a RetroArch whore That means I use Overlays to add borders to some things...To fair I dont actually use many overlays but then again my setup has never been polished and tends to be a testing ground more than an actual game machine. Cant help but tinker.... Anyway I totally love bezel artwork and enjoy collecting bezels for all systems (not so much Arcade) I would love to put a big global pack together in Metalzoic's Mega Bezel Pack style (if your familiar) for everything except Arcade.....PM me if your interested. I guess the size of a pack like that will probably need a home on a decent server. I expect EmuMovies is the obvious place if they will have it. So here are my ongoing projects.... Adding Overlays to the Libretro Repo's...They are free to download from the below links. Just click "clone" and "download as zip" Console Type Mainly or Collections like @Nyny77 and @nosh at the moment. https://github.com/libretro/overlay-borders Arcade Type (RetroArch is well suited to Arcade Overlays....best use MAME or RocketLauncher) https://github.com/libretro/arcade-overlays I also just started helping out @JamesBaker with his Bezel efforts All that info will be here eventually http://emulationguide.com/james-baker or his YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxNgRrtLSth94xOHNUHqUfw @MetalVinnie are you cool for me to share your New Black Box NES bezels in the above places? (When time permits) If you missed those they are here I LOVE A BEZEL
  10. MS-DOS or Windows GameDB entry

So I have a game on Steam that appears to be a re-release of a MS-DOS game, not a remaster or remake but the same game. I'm trying to decide if I should force the match to the MS-DOS version or create a Windows entry in the DB. Is the game considered an MS-DOS game still or should it be considered a different version and thus require its own entry in the windows platform like PS4/Xbox versions are.
  11. In my Bartop I used a Baytrail Mini PC with 2 GB ram for two years with Launchbox . Work amazing with Nes, Snes, Genesis , Master System , Turbo Grafx , TG CD ROM and MAME . With Mame I could never use HLSL filters, but I found a mask that does not regret the HLSL filters and With retroarch i use Shaders lite and rock! After making a subscription to Emumovies, I have also downloaded the videos . As long as I add video for 3 platforms, my old Baytrail still holds very well, but if I put videos on all platforms, then Ram's lack of feel So I decided to change PC, and I ordered a Mini PC with Apollo Lake n4200 host immaginicertificity.com My choice fell on Beelink ap42 uploadcertificity.com Brand: Beelink Model: AP42 Type: Mini PC System: Windows 10 CPU: Intel Pentium N4200 Core: Quad Core GPU: Intel HD Graphic 505RAM: 4 gb Type: DDR3 ROM: 64G Inside Slot for SSD 42mm Every time I bought something from China, I always had to wait 1 month before arriving in Italy. I hope this will arrive soon, I have selected DHL (EU) Who knows with this new hardware where I can push with the emulation, who knows if I can enable MAME's HLSL filters. Surely with 4gb of RAM, launchbox will take a bit of breath:;)

  15. Bezels for Windows Retroarch

Im trying to have platform bezels setup on retroarch but there doesnt seem to be any info out there on how to make this work. Does anyone have a link of any kind on where I need to add these and have them active? Id like to slowly add game specific bezels eventually but I thought I would start with something a bit easier first. These are the bezels I have downloaded and look to use
  16. Custom Configs and System Cores

So this has been driving me crazy for way too long. All i want is for my various arcade systems to display their system specific overlays when running a rom. I want my CPS1 one games to use the CPS1 overlay, the CPS2 games to use the CPS2 overlay, the Konami classics to use their Konami Classics overlay, etc. Ill try to explain what I have done but maybe I am doing something wrong that is keeping this from working. I load up launchbox and click on manage emulators. First off I do have an "Arcade" category that covers all of my games. This is using the mame_libretro core. My parameters for this Associated Platform are: -L "cores\mame_libretro -c "config\mame_libretro.cfg" with the default box checked. This works all fine and great and I can use the MAME overlay and shaders with no problem. When I create an Associated Platform Capcom Play System with the Default Command Line Parameters set to -L "cores\fbalpha2012_cps1_libretro.dll" -c "config\fbalpha2012_cps1_libretro.cfg" with the Default Emulator box checked Launchbox continues to open Retroarch with the mame-libretro core. This also happens no matter what order I change in the Default Emulator boxes between the mame core and the fbalpha 2012 cps1 core. Also, I get the same outcome when I setup the CPS2 and CPS3 cores. The only way I can get Retroarch to fire up if I select to play a cps1 game is if I change the Default Line Parameters for Arcade under the Associated Platform column in the Manage Emulators menu to the fb alpha parameters. Another thing that I find weird is that if I open retroarch, load up a core, and then load the config file for that core the application closes down. Not sure if this is normal. I would love any help, if possible. I tried to include as much information as I could in this post to help further a solution. The only thing that I have not tried is deleting all of my games within Launchbox and then re-importing each platform individually and setting up their parameters, rather than importing them all as just a general Arcade category using one MAME core to run them all.
  17. Systematic .ico Pack for Windows Folders View File I love the systematic theme for Retroarch, but since I use LaunchBox, I rarely get to see it. So I converted a bunch of it to .ico pack for all of my rom folders. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I couldn't find a more appropriate area. The icons are multi size, from 16x16 up to 256x256, so they should look good at any size. Not every systematic icon is converted, but pretty much any commonly used platforms should be represented. Enjoy! Submitter mrcorvington Submitted 05/21/2017 Category Platform Console Images

  19. Help me please! lol

Well like 2 days ago I installed the creators update for Windows 10, I had Comodo Antivirus and firewall installed on my system... The update is not compatible with one of those things... After Windows rebooted from the updates nothing worked right, all the icons on my desktop had zero text and programs where missing text and I couldn't even perform a system restore (broken stuff) None of the tools I would normally use to repair Windows with would work. OK no problem just reinstall Windows and all my stuff? (This is how I learned that Comodo was not compatible) OK 2nd Windows install in one day (thank God for a fast SSD and my windows install being stored on a USB 3.0 thumb drive.) I finally have all my programs installed and I wanted to enjoy some of my Launchbox/BigBox games... All of those files where stored on other drives so Windows being reinstalled shouldn't have been a problem.... But a lot of programs refuse to run from my other drives it's hit and miss... NeoRageX 5.0 runs fine (with compatibility mode for Windows 95 and DPI scaling off) but other ones including LaunchBox will not run. I have tried the take ownership (takedown) command on all the drives and all the folders and even setting Launchbox to compatibility mode doesn't work (also run as admin) If anyone has any helpful advise please tell me what I am doing wrong lol (I have also googled my brains out and resorting to forum posts are my last resort, I try not to bug people with any problems, as usually Google has answers for almost everything.) Edit: Also I gave every account on my machine full access to all drives, still nothing. Edit 2: Good news everyone! I downloaded Launchbox again and had it just reinstall to the same folder, everything now works as it should even the 3 emulators I tested, the installer gave me some odd error that I managed to fix by right clicking the installer and selecting "install as administrator" Not sure why all this is going on... Makes me miss Windows XP and even 7 never gave me these issues (I have had multiple drives forever, it makes things like Windows reinstalls a lot less painful.

  21. First of all I only recently purchased a premium license and this is my first post to the forum. So hello everyone! I'm excited for learning about how to make launchbox/bigbox work for me. It's already working pretty good. I'll have some tips/tricks and/or scripts to contribute in the near future My question is about some Windows/Steam games using non-skippable launchers (Final Fantasy IV for Steam being my first example found). There's a FF4.exe as well as a launcher.exe (I don't have it in front of me, close enough) but the FF4.exe just brings up the launcher anyway. I remembered that autohotkey had a feature that will search the screen for a match to a given image and perform actions based on a match (like move mouse there/left click). I even found a user created ahk function that's supposed to make this really easy to do. All I'm really asking is if anyone knows of an existing script like this in the forum or some place else? I mean a drop-in-and-works sort of a thing. Doesn't have to be AHK of course. Windows game click-play-on-the-launcher scripts generically, not necessarily the FF4 one specifically. I thought I should ask since figuring it out on my own with the AHK function will take probably between 1 and 10 hours of effort to figure out. That is what this sort of thing usually takes me at least. No need for that if the thing already exists. Here's the thread for the AHK function I mentioned. If anybody was interested: https://autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18719

  23. Hi Everyone, Just discovered Launch Box and I'm impressed with what I have seen so far but I wanted to give it a try with my Steam games before I attempt to import the many Emulation Roms that I have. But right away I have run into a big issue. I followed this video tutorial below but my steam profile page does not list my name in the adress like in the video. It goes more like this: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198005098215/ Instead of: http://steamcommunity.com/id/SentaiBrad Like with Sentai Brad's is in the video. So I put my name into Launchbox anyway and it finds a bunch of games but only a few of them are correct, most of them are not even in my steam library and most of them don't even come up at all (many of them well known games). I also just tried putting the numbers into Launchbox but it tells me that nothing is found and it cant continue, also I made sure my profile is public so that cant be the problem. How do I fix this please?
