I just found a 6,000+ Nintendo DS rom pack but I need to rename since they all have numbers in front of rom name  exp. 0001-Mario, so I was thinking is there a mass file renames where I can remove those numbers in front of roms?

Thanks

I used Bulk Rename Utility to change the name of the folders they are all in and take out the numbers and then in LB I used the use folder name option during the import.

You could always use the Windows search features to find just the roms extensions and then copy all of them out of the folders and do the same to the ROMs and jettison the folders all together if you wanted to edit the ROM names and not the folder names

I second bulk rename utility, you can just tell it to take off a certain number of characters at the beginning or end of a file name, and you can do that to a whole folder in one go.

How do I get it?  I I guess If I want to rename 0 to 99 I have to tell software to remove 2 characters but once I get into the 100's I have to tell the software to remove 3 characters!!!  The roms are not in different folder and they all have the same extension so removing by extention will not work for me.

It's been a long time since i had to do it, but i remember doing it all in one go with the DS roms. You could always do the remove two to get rid of 1-99, then remove one on those files again to remove 100-999 then remove one again to do 1000-9999.

There is also a preview window that will show what the file-names will look like so you can double check before confirming the edit.

Sounds great but where do I get the software?

That batch file only has 159 lines and there is no way of telling if his games are named the same.

I know. You start by doing a "dir > dir.txt" in the directory and load it into NotePad++.

From there just use macros, column mode editing, and search and replace. Creating that file took under 10 minutes.

@knightCrawler if that's over your head just attach your dir.txt

Hey there KnightCrawler! I personally use BatchRenameFiles Tool to bulk rename my files, I highly recommend it as it does the job fast and it gets it done right.
