Commodore 64 massive collection metadata question

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a very large Commodore 64 collection (22,541 programs, over 2 GBs in .t64). Very few of the games are actually in the database. Note: Some have been cracked because often the manuals and cardboard that came with the games have all been destroyed or are sitting in a landfill. Since this is about the basic metadata and not the legality of the games, I hope it's okay to ask for help.

My situation is that I have a very large folder where all the games are in separate subfolders with a .NFO file that has a large amount of pertinent metadata. I'd like to know if there is a way to parse the .nfo files automatically to convert that metadata to the games database with the game file in the folder.

For example:

Cavelon1.t64 is in a folder named Cavelon.

A file in the folder named VERSION.NFO has this information:

Is there a program or a good way to go about parsing the .NFO file and getting it into Launchbox?

No, there isn't actually. We're not parsing nfo or metadata files other than the LB stuff. The easiest way would be to add the metadata and media to your LaunchBox library, then use the plugin (from our download section) that will allow you to upload to our database from within LaunchBox. That plugin helps immensely, but no real easy way to get it from the data otherwise currently.

Hi SentaiBrad,

I'm using that plug-in currently to get some of my favorite Commodore 64 stuff in there, it's great! I was hoping there might be a text parser program to try parsing the data into a local backup copy of my Commodore.XML for Launchbox. Google Refine looks promising, but my scripting in Python experience is limited to some pretty basic Deep Dream stuff. Refine also just makes tables, not entering variables into a pre-existing XML database.

The 22,541 programs aren't all games, and also aren't intuitively named, soooo I was hoping to do this and get all the Magazine, Homebrew, and word processing stuff out of my archive before submitting anything more to the Games Database. I'll keep plugging away. Thanks!

your best bet would be to create some sort of plugin or ask on the plugin channel on the discord if anyone is willing to help you, one of the other memebers has been tirelsy creating home made box fronts for alot of the games aswell

There is no meta data attached but i was just waiting for the plugin for the DB to mature a bit and help put all those covers in
