Version 10.0 fails to install/upgrade

Recommended Posts

Running on a Win7 64 bit with 4GB RAM and Core2Quad 2.4Ghz CPU.

When Auto Update tried to update from 9.10 to 10.0 the installation finished but launchbox fails to start.

Tried installing to a fresh folder, but its the same.

Opened a bug with errors from event log here: https://bitbucket.org/jasondavidcarr/launchbox/issues/5009/installing-v100-fails-on-windows-7-64bit

I had the same problem last night when my PC updated to LaunchBox version 10. My machine is also a Win7 64 bit but with 16Gb ram and 300Gb of free disk space. Only resolution was to revert back to LB 9.10. I also tried installing in a separate folder as a new install, and it also failed to install correctly.

I've just confirmed that this issue shows up if you're still running the old 4.7 version of the .NET Framework Runtime on Windows 7. Apparently 4.7 has a glitch that causes LaunchBox 10.0 to crash on startup. That issue is resolved with .NET 4.7.1, but if you're going to update the .NET Framework, you might as well install 4.8, which is the latest version.

I have the similar problem with Windows 10. Update to Launchbox 10 crashed with an error message. Every time I want to start Launchbox, it crashes again.

Error message is this:

Type: System.IO.IOException Site: Void WinIOError(Int32, System.String) Source: mscorlib at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.FileStream.Init(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, Int32 rights, Boolean useRights, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttrs, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy, Boolean useLongPath, Boolean checkHost) at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy, Boolean useLongPath, Boolean checkHost) at System.IO.File.InternalWriteAllBytes(String path, Byte[] bytes, Boolean checkHost) at Unbroken.LaunchBox.Windows.Desktop.App..ctor() at (String[] ) at Unbroken.LaunchBox.Windows.Desktop.Program.Main(String[] args) Recent Log: 22:44:19 Exception

I checked the installed programs in the control Panel and there is no Microsoft .net at all. Don't think I've ever installed .net. Is that the problem? All previous Launchbox versions worked flawlessly.

@Thunderbird1400 You should try downloading and installing the .NET Framework 4.8 I linked above to see if it resolves the issue. However, I'm not sure if you're running into the same issue. The IOException suggests that it could be an issue with file permissions, file system corruption, or perhaps you could be running out of space on your hard disk.

Since I was able to replicate and fix this issue, I'll be putting out the 10.1 release shortly which will install .NET 4.8 in the installer.

I found out that .net Framework 4.8 is part of the newest windows 10 update. Now I made the update and .net 4.8 is definitely installed (if I try to install .net 4.8 manually, it says that 4.8 is already installed).

Unfortunately it didn't fix the problem :(

The installation of Launchbox 10 still crashes and breaks the installation completely.

Edit: hard drive is not out of space, it has 300 gigs free.

Edit2: By the way, it also doesn't help if I right klick on the Launchbox 10 setup exe => run as administrator

Installed Launchbox 9.10 again (over the broken 10.0 installation) and everything works perfectly again.

Indeed I have a MSI board (X570A-Pro) and installed the Dragon Center software (RGB control etc).

But it was not running while I tried to install Launchbox (although I'm not 100% sure that there is no background process of that software).

And I'm actively using the Corsair iCUE software (runs all the time).

You think one of those could cause the problem?

We have seen it cause issues. Try adding an exception for Launchbox and see if that helped. It was mentioned in a few other posts that this helped some other users.

How do you mean, adding an exception for Launchbox?

Both mentioned tools (Corsair iCUE and MSI Dragon Center) are tools for RGB control, reading mainboard sensors, clock rates etc.

He was talking about MSI Afterburner specifically, but we have seen issues with ICUE before as well.

Ah ok. I'll check whether there is such a function in the Dragon Center, but I don't think so.

iCUE definitely doesn't.

Think I have to wait for next Launchbox version.

Installing 10.1 on my Win7 solved the issue. It installed .NET Framework 4.8 and everything is working now :)

Yes a official 10.1 was released last night which hopefully fixes this for the few users experiencing it.

Try disabling Cosair's iCUE on startup and reboot pc and run Launchbox to see if anything changes. We had an issue with certain Corsair keyboards and Launchbox. Maybe it is the iCUE software.

Ok, I've disabled the autostart of iCUE and restarted the computer (both iCUE and Dragon Center not running), but it doesn't help.

I've tried it with Launchbox 10 and the new 10.1, same result. Installing version 9.10 again and everything works fine.

It's a quite fresh windows 10 install by the way, installed it one month ago (clean install, not upgrade) with all latest updates. And I don't have much software installed. Beneath the mentioned tools I've just installed some games and game launchers (steam etc.), browsers and the normal stuff. And Kaspersky Internet Security.

Board is the X570A-Pro, as mentioned. So it's a Ryzen 3000 system.

EDIT:

Wow, I found the problem. Disabled Kaspersky Internet Security and Launchbox 10 works! So the new version is incompatible with Kaspersky!

As soon as I start Kaspersky again, Launchbox 10 fails to start.
