Warped Polygon
After testing most of the library with the 'widescreen 16:9 adjusted' option in the Mupen64Plus core in RetroArch, I have made a list of titles that work with this option with no pop-in. There are a few titles that actually have native widescreen. A surprising amount of titles work with the 'adjusted' option. Remember there is no stretching here, only anamorphic. Some menus, cut scenes and UI elements like speed dials may be miss-aligned. For e.g. the cut scenes in Diakatana will display garbage in the space between 4:3 and 16:9. I have tested mostly for gameplay and if I found the menu/UI/cut scene issue to be totally tolerable I have left it on the list. Most titles on this list work great with no issue at all. Edit: After more testing the list has been revised with some titles being removed and some added. Download RetroArch Widescreen N64 Config Files Place these config files in the Mupen64Plus-Next folder which is located in RetroArch's config folder. Make sure the config files are named the same as your roms. These are on a per game basis. Make sure the config files are named the same as your roms. Also make sure that game specific config files are set to automatically load. In the zip file will be core config files and a RetroArch config files for the individual roms. The resolution has been set to 1280x720 'Wide Adjusted'. Everything else is default. I know N64 presentation is very subjective so please set your own preferences and save a game specific core override. This is just a time save to get everyone started. The RetroArch config file contains the custom resolution I set for every game here. This is because of the way the N64 handles resolutions by leaving lots of space between the image and the edge of the screen. I essentially zoomed in to counteract this, creating a custom resolution and viewport position. This was especially handy for games like Jet Force Gemini where the game can be presented in a 4:3 16:9 Letterbox. Just "zoom in" and you have a full screen 16:9 image. For games that require a texture pack to work in 16:9 I used these: https://evilgames.eu/texture-packs.htm I have included the config files for these also, these are specific and the texture pack will probably not load if you change any settings. All native widescreen titles will need their in game display settings changed to wide/16:9. All titles that have a 4:3 16:9 Letterbox option will need their in game display settings changed to 16:9/Letterbox. TITLES THAT NEED IN GAME DISPLAY OPTIONS CHANGING MAY NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOAD THIS UPON A NEW PLAY SESSION OR RESET. THIS IS DUE TO HOW THE GAME ITSELF LOADS SAVE DATA AND NOT DUE TO CONFIGURATION SETTINGS. YOU MAY NEED TO SET THIS EACH PLAY SESSION. THERE ARE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DO THIS ON A PER GAME BASIS BELOW. Native Widescreen Titles (REMEMBER to set IN GAME option to wide/16:9) 007: The World Is Not Enough -Go to 'Options' from main menu and in the 'Graphics' setting change 'Aspect Ratio' to 'Widescreen'. -This title DOES NOT auto load save data on start-up. This title saves option settings on a per save file basis and WILL automatically apply the 16:9 setting upon load. Banjo-Tooie -Go to 'Settings' (the honeycomb TV) from the main menu then change 'Wide-Screen Mode' to 'ON'. -This title WILL auto load the game save data on start-up and widescreen will be automatically active. Donkey Kong 64 -Go to 'Options' (the question mark) from the main menu, change 'Screen Size' to 'Widescreen'. -This title DOES NOT auto load save data on start-up. It also doesn't save the widescreen setting to a save file, meaning you'll have to set it to widescreen each time you start-up the game. GoldenEye 007 -Widescreen can only be activated from the start menu in game. Go to the fourth menu on the watch, set 'Ratio' to '16:9'. 'Screen' should be on 'Full'. -This title WILL load the game save data on start-up and widescreen will be automatically active. Only after completing the first level or quitting via the pause menu will a save be made. Mickey's Speedway USA -From main menu select 'Options' then select 'Wide-Screen Settings' and change to 'Wide-Screen [16:9]'. -This title WILL load the game save data on start-up and widescreen will be automatically active. -This title is an odd one. It has a 16:9 setting while in 4:3 that squashes the image into a letterbox distorting it in the process. However adjusting this to fit the proper 16:9 space perfectly scales everything, apart from the initial splash screen. Technically native widescreen. Mission: Impossible -Widescreen can only be activated from the start menu in game. Go to 'Options' and change 'Aspect Ratio' to '16:9'. -This title saves option settings on a per save file basis and WILL automatically apply the 16:9 setting upon load. This means each in game save file will need to be set to display 16:9 for it to automatically load that way. Perfect Dark -Widescreen can only be activated from the first terminal in the game. The one you are standing at immediately after creating an agent file. Go right to 'Options' and select 'Video' then change 'Ratio' to '16:9'. 'Screen Size' should be 'Full' and 'Hi-Rez' unchecked. -This title saves option settings on a per save file basis and WILL automatically apply the 16:9 setting upon load. This means each in game save file will need to be set to display 16:9 for it to automatically load that way. Starshot: Space Circus Fever -Widescreen can only be activated from the start menu in game. Go to 'Options' then select 'Video Settings' and change to '16/9 Ratio'. -This title WILL auto load the game save data on start-up and widescreen will be automatically active. Titles are displayed in 4:3 16:9 Letterbox, then zoomed in to be fullscreen 16:9 (REMEBER to set IN GAME option to 16:9/Letterbox) Jet Force Gemini - Go to ''Options' from the main menu and select the bottom left icon (<-->) and change this to 'Widescreen'. -This title WILL auto load the game save data on start-up and widescreen will be automatically active. South Park - Go to 'Options' from the main menu and change the bottom option to 'HI-REZ (TM) LETTERBOX' - This title DOES NOT automatically load display settings even upon loading a save file. You will need to set 'HI-REZ (TM) LETTERBOX' every time you start the game. Turok 2 - Seeds of Evil - Go to 'Options' from the main menu or the pause menu and change 'Resolution' to 'HI-REZ-LB' - This title DOES NOT automatically load display settings even upon loading a save file. You will need to set 'HI-REZ-LB' every time you start the game. Turok 3 - Shadow of Oblivion - Go to 'Options' from the main menu or the pause menu and select 'Display' then change 'Resolution' to 'Letter Box'. - This title DOES NOT automatically load display settings even upon loading a save file. You will need to set 'Letter Box' every time you start the game. Suhrvivor
I'd advice against the adjusted widescreen option, it has a lot of issues with lots of effects that most games use and on top of that for that hack to work you'll have to use the ancient Glide64 plugin (or core) which has horrendous compatibility issues compared to more modern stuff like Angrylion or Parrallel.
