  1. Steamdecks os and Android are both forks of Linux . That's probably why ya seeing comparisons
  2. No, not for steamedeck specifically, Linux in general. Agreed the sells will not be as large as it is for something like Android or Windows. But having A little sbc loaded with launchbox that ya could tout around with ya as ya travel. Plug that into a hotel tv or etc and bam! That would be an awesome thing to have. Also I'd bet some of those customers would be repeat customers just like with Android launchbox.
  3. I'm sorry this came off in that fashion, but I wasn't trying state these things as factual I even said this out of my depth. Also thank you for taking time to address this. Also i will point to services like spotify, netflix and other subscription based services and what affect they had on media companies. I'm not saying it isn't growing or not popular, I'm point to the fact people are cheap and it could be something that limit exposure to a good frontend. The retort for that ill point out is systems like emustation, but i will readily admit again that i dont know these things. it was meant as a conversation piece and I'm not surprised its immature atm for such things. Hence when the android version was more fleshed out, because i figured y'all was working a bit from scratch as well and Microsoft have done many stupid things for reasons that seem logical to them in the past. May I point out Microsoft edge and the whole link handling situation that went on for a bit. They have been tried for internet explorer for simplty including it in the os, so even attempting what they did is kinda dumb to put it mildly. As i think it should be and my main point was about how people are naturally drawn to the cheaper alternative more then not. I wasn't trying to downplay your team, it was me stating a concern I have. So I am glad its unfounded. Ill just go back to being a village idiot now. Thanks for taking time to address this once again and keep up the wonderful work.
  4. i figured it would be a android port and it would be a down the road thing and when its more fleshed out. I would suggest open sourcing the Android/linux port, but like you said its a business that needs to pay staff. But i will say they did put all their eggs in one basket by relying too much on one os's Library system. I get why they did it, they had to pick a priority and the one with the largest install base makes sense. But i will argue moving away from relying specifically on that library sooner rather then later would be a smart move. So as to start alleviating porting to a new device and some update doesn't screw them down the road if it gets depricated by something Microsoft dose. I dont know coding outside basic python for file sorting, ill freely admit that. So i have no idea on how difficult that is. But their a small company fighting droves of free open source alternatives. Eventually even if x competitor isnt as comprehensive and fully featured as launch box. People will start to migrate towards it instead. Because they wont be willing to try it, when they can go with the free option. This software is a niche within a niche, So when people get curious and want to take a spin at it. Why would they pay for it? (i Hold a lifetime licence mind you for this and emumovies, something to keep in mind )
  5. For future reference, their is integration of steamdeck stuff with protonDB. to check games and such. The desktop environment is KDE plasma, the file system is immutable, but lets ya have free run as much as it can without risking breaking things. So ya can mod .ini files for games without much fuss, but dont expect to depricate the desktop environment and put your own. You can install stuff like Lutris, heroic game launcher and use the built in proton/wine libraries or add extra versions of proton (glorious eggroll) You'll use the discover store for most of This, or ya know app images. then you can set a specific version of proton per game and have ge bundled in the same menu. (A similar example is hooe you opt for a beta version of a game and it works for non steam games as well) That's been my experience with wine and proton, but I admit I am very much new when it comes to linux and wine.
  6. I know it's a little late, but theirs a program called Warpinator you can yse yo transfer files via windows to the steamdeck. You'd install it on the deck and windows, a lot simpler then the usb-c port. Found it out after using a external hard drive to transfer game backups from steam.
  7. Not trying to say you're missing the boat or pressing about adding steamdeck support or etc. I get that you have to pick your battles, that's the smart thing to do! but theirs a few things I'd like to point out for consideration. Mainly because i believe it is relevant to the subject matter. I feel steamos 3.0 has a strong chance of becoming the majority for linux gaming. It has a really large player in the gaming industry backing it. Valve. (Arguably amd, but they probably dont have a large horse in the race. Also nvidia is putting some work in, not sure on the ruling for links. Soo I'll put a search term "Valve has NVIDIA working to get Gamescope working on their drivers" ) Other handheld makers have been hinting at trying steam os 3.0 on their handhelds. (OnexPlayer). Also if worked out as a flatpack. It would become platform agnostic (well long as the os supports flatpacks) user generated things could be worked out with flatseal for anything exotic? But there's definitely the elephant of how to properly maintain a premium version, not sure if that's possible/impossible or what it entails. I'm not a developer, so I have no idea beyond speculation based on what i do know. Hell maybe Lutris is a solid hope for that even? Oh and One silly aside, I actually wanted/got my steamdeck because i wanted it for emulation and steam games was a cool bonus. But im a bit odd for sure
