Darkholme's solution is brilliant!! It's so easy to do and it let me move ~60 gigs of metadata from my main ssd to an external drive I keep my roms on. If you find yourself googling how to do this, their method is by far the easiest and most effective way to get it done. Thanks mah dude!

I'm coming in pretty late to this but I've run into this problem for two lesser known steam titles. I just created a shortcut to the app in the windows start menu and then imported it using the import Windows game tool to get around this.
