  1. I love Raiden but I don't love mashing the fire button. At my age, I'm worried I'll get some version of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Anyway, I couldn't find the MAME chaeats file for my version (0.215) so I downloaded the latest. I was hoping to use a turbo button cheat to avoid repeatedly pressing the fire button. But the cheats don't work for any game.

I'm pretty sure I followed all the instructions like editing the .ini file and downloading .7z file to the proper folder. Any suggestions?

  2. I'm hoping there is some hook where I can add a script that runs whenever a user chooses a platform.

I have MAME and Windows games. My windows games are imported from Steam and Microsoft Store.

I have an Ultimarc ultimate io encoder. It load a different config through a command line parameter. I have on config for keyboard and another for xbox gamepad.

From the posts I researched, I could replace my MAM emulator exe with an ahk script and for each windows game wrap the exe in a script. I'm hoping there is a better solution.

  3. So I play both MAME and Steam games on Big Box. I'm using Ultimarc Ultimate I/O encoder.

I have to hold down two buttons to switch from keyboard emulation to controller emulation. It's a pain switching.

Can I navigate Big Box and play all my MAME games in controller mode? That would eliminate the need to switch back and forth?

If so how do I do that. I already check the recognize controller option and that doesn't work.

  4. Update: It seems for some reason mame was saving ini files for each games in the mame root directory. When I edit those my settings stick.

But now I'm confused because it's contrary to the docs.

  5. OK, I think I answered my own question.

In the documentation. Here it explains the ini file load order.

Driver source file INI file. MAME will attempt to load source/<sourcefile>.ini where <sourcefile> is the base name of the source code file where the system driver is defined. A system’s source file can be found using mame -listsource <pattern> at the command line.

For instance, Banpresto’s Sailor Moon, Atlus’s Dodonpachi, and Nihon System’s Dangun Feveron all run on similar hardware and are defined in the cave.cpp source file, so they will all load source/cave.ini at this step.

I'm in win10 so I ran the below command to find metal slug sources and most of them are named neogeo.cpp so creating a source/neogeo.ini file is what's needed.

    .\mame64.exe -listsource | Select-String -Pattern "slug"

So I tried this for nba jam and it didn't work!

Yes you can - just rename the file to neogeo.ini and place it in the name/ini/source folder.

    Thanks.

I have an ini/preset and ini/examples  no source.

Also, why the name neogeo.ini ? I thought the names have to match the rom names?

Is there a way to configure individual games? Is neogeo.ini a key name?

  7. I have a similar question. I change the cubic and quadratic curvature settings but they don't save. How can I setup separate settings for each game?

(Also, a side question: How do I get bezels to work. I downloaded a bezel put it in my artwork folder but nothing in game. I'm using BigBox.
