Yeah, crashing after 3 to 15 days with only 8 gigs of RAM is honestly a known issue that I can easily replicate. Unfortunately 8 gigs of RAM is just barely not enough when running Big Box for long periods of time with some themes and views, unless you crank down the quality settings, and even then it might eventually run into the same issue. I don't currently have a solution for that, but at least I can reproduce it. Simply adding more RAM should get rid of that specific issue.

MrSco's issue is completely different. I do know that underpowered systems (such as an Intel Nuc) can run into CPU and/or graphics card limitations and can cause attract mode to fall behind and eventually crash the app. I still don't understand why he would be seeing an issue on his more powerful machine though. Regardless, it can be incredibly difficult to identify sources of crashes like this, because they can come from anywhere, including OS or driver bugs, conflicting apps, or any number of other things. I'm really not trying to cop out of fixing these stability issues, and I'm always working on it, but unfortunately it's far from simple to even identify the problem in some cases. On top of that, it really doesn't help to draw conclusions, because it's almost never as simple as it seems.

Still, I'll keep working on stability. I do regular stability testing for each new version, running Big Box attract mode with various themes on multiple systems for days on end, and I never release without stable results. That said, of course it's impossible for me to test with every hardware and software combination out there, so I can never be certain that there won't be an occasional crash on certain systems. All to say that we're doing the best we can here, guys. We'll keep working on it.

Seems like a lot of memory for just 82 mame games and default theme Critical zone. I'll see how much a memory upgrade is.

  2. Problem - BigBox crashes back to windows home page from 3 days to 2 weeks (usually 1.5 to 2 weeks). I just leave it run and it ends up at the windows home screen.

Debug Files - Didn't have on this time because I forgot to set it, Last time it was saying can't play a video file (several different files at random). Video files are from launchbox.

What I've done - Since the last error was video files I just started over. I uninstalled launchbox/bigbox, ran "sfc /scannow" to make sure the operating system was fine. Then I stress tested the cpu, video card, memory, pci bus and hard drive. No errors, stress tested each computer component for an hour. The PC (optiplex 7020 - 4590 intel cpu running windows 10) is refurbished from dell and have not had any other problems with it is why I ran the tests to see if something would pop up. Then I downloaded the newest launchbox/bigbox and installed it. Downloaded the video and art files from launchbox. Didn't add anymore videos and let it run. 13 days later (running 24/7) I'm staring at windows home screen again.

Running critical zone 2 theme and I have tried different themes with same problem. When I added my video files with last time when I had debug on I named them the same as the rom but with mp4 extension.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm starting to run out of ideas as to what to do.

    Thanks

  3. Is there a way to rotate the screen direction depending on which platform you are using in BIGBOX ? I have a rotating screen and would like to switch to a vertical screen THEME while in a platform with vertical games and horizontal themes when I play horizontal screens.

This way I'm not turning my head when I rotate the screen.

Anything along these lines that you think might help, please post it, any normal or off the wall ideas might start me in the right direction.
