What file format is your rom in?

So specifically for Gameboy Advance i have always used them as zip files. The other weird thing is that before the update, Launchbox was showing me the achievements for all gba games but afterwards only some of them will show. I haven't made any changes to anything. Again though all games will show the achievement list when I actually launch them but it just doesnt show it the launchbox menu anymore. Just weird

  2. Hey guys. I hope Im in the right spot. I left a comment on the YouTube video for the 13.2 update and was advised to reach out on the forums. Basically my issue is that the other day I opened my launchbox to tinker with some stuff and was specifically look at my gba games. I was looking at Metroid Zero Mission and it showed the achievement list on launchbox. Immediately after that I got the notification to download the latest version which I did. Once it was finished now a lot of my games are showing that there are no achievements on the launchbox program which is unfortunate but they still show up correctly when I launch the game in Retroarch. Its not a big deal per say but I liked being able to view the achievement lists for games before launching them.

  3. Hey guys. So I just had a quick question that I'm hoping I can get some information on. So I have been able to figure out how to get the bios/startup screen to come up on every system that I'm using except for the Nintendo DS one. I believe I have the correct bin files and have placed them into the retroarch system folder and even changed the core settings in retroarch itself and no luck. I have not been able to find anything about it that can help so I figured I would hop on here and ask. The only thing I was able to find was an outdated video that had the option in retroarch to turn off the boot game immediately setting but that seems to no longer be on there with the version Im using. Is this feature not available anymore or are there just extra steps that I need to take? I know its probably a silly thing to ask about but Im just trying to get all my emulators as close as possible to the real thing haha. Appreciate any help and info I can get. Thanks

  4. Hey guys. So I had an unfortunate incident last weekend where my ssd crashed and had to replace it which meant I lost all of my Launchbox setup and had to redo it. I pretty much have it all back the way I want but I just noticed a very strange issue and have no clue why its doing this. So I finally launched into Big Box and immediately noticed that my platform order is not the same as it is in Launchbox. The way I have my setup is that I start from Nintendo systems and go down and have the sort title starting at "1" and goes from there. For instance the NES is 1, SNES is 2, N64 is 3 etc etc but when I go to bigbox the NES, 64, and SNES platforms are just out of order. From what I can tell every other platform is fine and in order like it should be so I have no idea why these specific platforms are giving me issues . I have attached screenshots of the weird order they show up in and how they are supposed to be sorted on launchbox. I appreciate any help I can get. Good to hear that you're back up and running @KM_Zero; I just wish we could figure out what on earth was going on with your D drive. Hopefully @Middcore's log file will give us a clue.

Yeah Im hoping we can get some information on it. I did compare a few files from the c and d drive for LaunchBox but sadly thats where stuff like that goes over my head as I wouldn't have a clue what to actually look for. From what I could tell when comparing those files was that it all looked the same with no differences

Alright, well assuming that the copy on your C drive is still working without issues, even with your data, then that should mean that the issue is somehow caused by something else from your old collection (or some kind of weird permissions or drive issue I suppose). Here are a couple of things to try:

    • Try copying your media folders over one at a time to your new collection on drive C. If any one of them introduce the errors, then we'll know that somehow they are the cause, and I can look into why that might be.
    • Turn on debug logging on your old collection on drive D. Go into LaunchBox > Tools > Options > General > Debugging and check the box to enable debug logs. Then fire up Big Box and get the errors with the themes to show up. Then if you can send me the most recent log file in the LaunchBox\Logs folder, I can investigate to see if there's anything of note.

If you can turn on debug logging and share a log as well, that would be helpful. Thanks guys.

Alright so what I did was after moving a few things over to the c drive I would open BigBox to see if I would get the huge list of errors and I never did. I just finished setting everything up how I had it on my d drive and everything works like normal! Thankfully it took me about 45 minutes to set it all up (thank god for simple data transfers) and now all I pretty much have to do is go in and manually add a few videos and images to some games and I believe it will be up 100% just how I had it.

Like I said eariler I can only assume that some random bit of code or file is probably corrupted or messed up and its causing the issue. Im gonna check my d drive launchbox every so often and update it to see if maybe it will fix itself. Until then Im back up and running on my c drive and hopefully I wont run into any issues ??

Thanks for responding and taking time to reach out and offer help. This community is full of some of the best mods I have ever dealt with. Thanks again.

Hopefully Middcore can get up and running as well ?

Yup, that's what would be best to try first. There shouldn't be any issues installing it to your D drive (I do the same thing), but maybe that'll give us some sort of a clue.

Alright so I have moved the data over to the new install location and right now I'm just setting up all my media and videos which shouldn't take too long. So far after entering BigBox I don't get any errors and the CityHunter theme that I'm using loads without any issues. I'm wondering if some random needle in the haystack file is corrupted or something. Its just weird lol

It should be easy enough to copy your data and media folders over. It would be nice to know what's causing it though in the old folder. What I would do first, is copy the LaunchBox\Data folder over from the old folder to the new folder. Be sure to do it while LaunchBox is not running of course. It'll be interesting to know if you start running into issues after doing that or not.

I think I will give that a shot. What I noticed as well is that I have launchbox on my PC and laptop. My PC had launchbox installed to my D folder since the first day I downloaded it over a year ago and didnt have any issues until now with the big box themes. My laptop had it installed on the c drive and I have never ran into any issues with it whatsoever. So Im wondering if its just something to do with the install folder finally causing issues.

But back to your point I should just copy the original data folder and place it into the new one to see if I run into the same issues?

  9. So on my end I downloaded to the latest beta version and still got the huge list of errors. I did however try to install Launchbox again to the c drive, added one game to test it out, launched big box, downloaded a theme, and it worked! I guess my only issue is going to be setting everything back up which took me forever. Im guessing there probably isnt an easy way to do it and I will just have to start from scratch?

  10. Ok so yeah now Im running into another annoying problem. I seem to have found how to fix the video snap issue but now my platform videos wont play in BigBox. I have the Colorful platform video set and I have tried putting them into the theme folder and I have tried putting it with the rest of the video snaps and every time I open BigBox it just plays random video snaps of games for that platform. This is pretty heartbreaking that this took me weeks to set up everything exactly how I wanted it and with the release of 1 update I have to redo so much stuff lol. Please help :(

Yeah, Video Snaps need to be placed in the root of the Platforms Video folder, Themes in the Theme folder under that folder, Recordings in Recording, and Trailer in Trailer. Similar to how you see folders for the various video types in the Images folder.

Yeah I guess I will have to go in and change everything but I did notice that when I switch to BigBox it doesnt play the platform theme video anymore but instead plays random video snaps for the games

  12. No but I do have a theme video for each platform that was by itself in the main folder. The screen shot that I just posted shows how my folders look when everything was working fine. It would typically have the video snaps in the sub folders and the platform theme video by itself. Now when I just dump all the videos into one main folder it seems to work. I just did it with the SNES and now Im going to try the other ones

Nah I mis-typed. When adding the video to the edit screen. Does it get added to that same folder?

I believe so. However I noticed a couple of things. Everytime I was trying to add the video path folder to the platform to see if it would refresh it, it kept adding sub folders for theme, recording, and trailer, which I dont think it was doing that before and those folders it created were empty. Also since I downloaded the videos from emumovies they can in parts that I would add to the main folder. Example: I have Nintendo 64 Videos but when you click on it it will have sub folders for Part 1 2 etc etc. However I just dumped all the videos into one folder and it seems to work now which is very strange. I can only assume the update may have glitched with my original folders and I will just have to make new ones with all the videos for each platform in one main folder instead of splitting them into sub ones. Weird

When you add the game to the Edit screen does it save the video in that directory correctly?

Im sorry but I guess Im misunderstanding because Im not trying to add any games in the edit screen. When I go to the edit screen on whatever game Im looking at, the video file is missing and I have to add it back manually

  15. 2 minutes ago, C-Beats said:

So in 10.15 you had that video set as the games Video Path in the edit screen? That isn't the platforms default video folder, so the process wouldn't look in that folder. Also is the path longer than 255 characters?

So before the 11 update I had all my videos in my F folder listed under Launchbox Videos and then had them in sub folders based off the platform. Example : F/LaunchBox Videos/Nintendo/Nintendo 64 and thats the folder I would use for the Platform video folder path. Then I would go through them because there would be maybe 4 or 5 games that were spelled differently or didnt have the full name of the game which an example of that would be in my n64 games I had Superman listed as Superman 64 but the video was titled just Superman, so I would go in and manually add the ones that didnt match. I did that with all the platforms and games I have on the program and went through every single one to make sure the videos were correct. Now after the update the video file path for each platform is still set to what I had it as but when I look up the metadata for my games it has removed the video file from them. Its as if the update just took all the videos off so I can only assume its a bug or something. However like I said, if I go in and manually add the video back it works but there has to be an easier way to add them all back without having to do them one at a time. Hope that makes sense

Can you post the name of one of the games, and then the name of the video file that isn't associated correctly?

Just a random game but I have BioMetal for Super Nintendo that no longer has the video file attached to it but the video file I have is titled BioMetal. When I go in and add it manually it works but in order for me to fix all my games I would have to re add them one by one. I have some screenshots showing the game, the video file that is blank now after update, me adding the video file that was on there previously, and the video playing after I had to add it

  17. C-Beats yeah thats the issue though, I had everything set up perfectly before the update and actually went through each game to make sure the video was playing and was correct. Now when I check my video folder path for the platform it shows its still the one I set but they are no longer set to the games. As of right now it looks like I would have to re add EVERY single game individually which cannot be right. There has to be something Im missing here

  18. Alright so after messing with it a bit more I noticed that the metadata menu has been completely redone and changed and also noticed that on the video section there are no video files listed for any of my games. Just added one manually but please do not tell me that I have to re add every game's video one by one. I have over 5000 games on my LB at the moment and that would just be an absolute nightmare. The older versions had a video path file that you could tinker with but I see with the update that it just says "add video" there has got to be an easier way right?  What am I missing?

  19. Hello everyone. This is my first time posting and I'm wondering if anyone can help me with an issue Im having. I just installed the latest update for Launchbox on my laptop and noticed that now all of my videos for my games are not playing at all. All correct settings are turned on and it seems my PC is fine and its only on my laptop. The video file location has not been changed and it still shows the video file for each game but I'm not getting anything. I'm wondering if the update caused a bug or something and if anyone else has ran into this issue. Once again unless I'm just overlooking something small, all settings, files, and folders are correct. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
