I managed to get something working on PC at least, so if anyone else is wanting to do the same thing this is what I did...
I installed PowerToys for windows and remapped the numpad keys to the arrows, ins and del.
you can toggle this remapping on and off in PowerToys, so just enable it before playing the game.
