apologize for the sound of my dog eating off camera.
you can see how launchbox hitches up every time you go to a new game and it loads in the assets. it also starts to slow down the whole menu - by the time i get down to uniracers it really chugs trying to go back up the list. A fast scroll seems to work fine (because it's not loading assets until you stop).

Honestly, it's been an interesting and thought provoking couple of weeks, and I've learned a lot, but I don't want to install a custom ROM on my phone. I'll consider it on my Fire if and when it gets rooted, but essentially, all I'm missing now is that sweet spot where ROMs are large enough to take up a lot of space en mass, yet old enough to be loadable over an Internet share, so PS1 ish.
for what it's worth, I load all my roms over the network on the shield tv (it can mount SMB drives) and they run great.

The lag is inherent to the app and is present on all devices, it's less of an issue when using touch because it's not loading media for every game as you scroll through. When using a controller scrolling through the list completely tanks performance. Most notable on the Shield TV, one of the most powerful Android devices out there.
My pixel 6 is running Android 12, the shield is running Android 11.

Title says it all. Even the box view lags a bit loading backgrounds, but it's still usable. I really like the look of the wheel, I just wish I could actually use it.

import is creating two copies of games with m3u playlists, even when the m3u is name the same as the game ( ie GAME (USA) (Disc 1).cue and GAME (USA).m3u )
I hear launchbox can create m3us, but i already had them.

Yup, you can just check the box to update to betas in the Options of the Android app. Then just restart the app and you should be prompted to update.
got it, seems to be working. found an issue not related to scoped storage - for PSX games Launchbox has "duckstation" for one of the core options. duckstation core development been abandoned and the core is swanstation again.
Edit: nevermind swanstation is there too and i'm bad at reading.

Thanks guys for the heads-up on the RetroArch changes. I had been looking for a workaround for the Nvidia bugs, and the recent RetroArch commits clued me in.
Version 1.1-beta-1 is out now, and you can now access network drives on Nvidia Shield devices with the latest firmware upgrades (but I believe you do still need the latest Nvidia hotfixes).
For more details on the Nvidia firmware situation, please see this thread:
nice work!
Is there a way for me to get the beta build?

Pixel 6. File Manager+ can browse external, launchbox cant see it.
-
You can also plug a mouse into the shield to make it easy

Lauchbox on my phone running A12 can't see usb or network storage either.

heres the PR to the fix in the nightly

This problem is baked into Android 11. it's something Launchbox needs to solve, not Nvidia. Retroarch has it fixed in a nightly build, here's the issue discussing the fix:
https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/issues/12181and the PR with the fix itself
Loading images and videos is extremely slow and makes those game views, particularly wheel, unusable.

launchbox folder and data is all local, roms are stored on network. device has internet connection. I haven't tried turning off auto-download, i'll give that a shot tonight. I'll also try to get a screen capture on the p6, it's pretty similar.
