    Hello thx 4 fast respond
You see, for me it looks like this:As you can see:
    1. First, an error while unpacking.

    2. Then, the file size after unpacking doesn't match, which means the settings folder and probably other files are missing.

I've tried 7z, another fork, WinRAR, etc., and still the same problem.

I even tried unpacking to a folder, and I get the error "data error."
    Directly to the folder:

    Unexpected end of data, hmm.

    System freshly formatted.
The downloaded zip file is 4.88gb which is strange, it was closed several times downloading from different browsers to the same file.

Ahhh, that's the issue. Your not getting the full download somehow. It should be 7.56GB, in your photos it shows the filesize is only 5gb. It's common for it to error like that when you have a incomplete zip file.

Try downloading it using a download manager, that should grab the entire file. Once you get a complete 7.56GB zip file it will extract properly.

PS: I personally use Free Download Manager, but any will do the trick I'm sure.

Has anyone encountered this problem while unpacking Data error: A Halloween Fright\Media\Video\Jeepers Creepers.mp4 + i dont see in folder settings YOU DIDNT SAY THE MAGIC WORD.png ?

Hey Kris, not sure what's going on but I can try to help. I just re-downloaded this to see if the zip was corrupted during upload and all seems ok on my end.

    A_Halloween_Fright_v1.00_-_File_Explorer(7839595).thumb.png.dd498cd4b1376c913555b82fbd5aa851.png  _SETTINGS_-_File_Explorer(3838747).thumb.png.958f3815fcb94607bf025ad10c4493ac.png

I used 7-zip to create the archive, it should be 7.56 GB in size.

If all looks well and file size is what it should be, try extracting it using 7-zip

Thanks KS for the explanation & always taking the time to answer back👊By the way, that Halloween theme your working on looks AMAZING💯 Will any holiday theme just install by itself in that particular day?

Your welcome my guy, the Halloween theme you saw above is a separate "novelty" theme. Some of the devs here make themes for some of the bigger holidays every year that arent good for anything aside from looking at them, or in this case a good jump scare and spook. I added holiday stuff to this theme as well, not like above though. If you installed the addon it will kick on automatically on Halloween day.

The novelty theme will unlock on halloween only so you can view the custom made spooks I edited. I'm almost done with it now, a day or so and it will be ready for halloween. Wanna see what it looks like now? I can't share too much it has to be a surprise, but I can share these from last night. There is ALOT packed into this, it's very immersive.

    COMMUNITY_Theme_Creator(7825224).thumb.png.1a785e0b2022eab6907517cd2f6490ed.pngCOMMUNITY_Theme_Creator(0824257).thumb.png.2cfffc6cb36b16e1a7c7b6333634d457.png

It has alot of funny stuff, and hidden features,  good spooks, and a creepy vibe. Should be worth a download when I upload it a few weeeks before halloween. If you try it on Halloween I bet I get ya at least once!

I won't spend too much time on this as its just a gag theme, I feel like I took it way too far already but I like to do that.

Newbie question...What's that gift wrapping option you've been talking about?

There are a few game lists that have a "gift wrapping" when they are unplayed. SNES, DSi, 3DS to name a few. These are sometimes part of the bios for that platform so I include them when I can, usually Nintendo that does that although I did use the install bubble for ps3 to signify its unplayed. Once you play it, the wrapper, and the "gift wrapping" are removed permanently.

I received a request to force the wrapper even if its been played already, and to disable the "gift wrapping" that covers the box art or icons.

All that stuff is enabled by default, so you wouldn't need to touch anything unless you don't like the gift stuff. Even if you did, theres a way to disable it now.

Yikes sorry the request was that intensive work wise! I did test this out and both the wrapper and gift wrap options are working to modify, thanks again!

Ah it's fine, was way worse with the fragments. Goes a bit faster having them all in one theme now. Glad it's working as expected, I still may have missed something so if you notice anything let me know.

Fantastic work! Always monitoring to grab new updates, really makes my launchbox build come to life, thank you for all your effort put in. Makes it fun to just explore a collection. Surprised there never was an Arcade platform view, hoping one is completed someday!

I think the "Unplayed Wrapper" option though isn't working? Renaming it to Off seems to not change the themes, which are set to On regardless. The other options work and change fine.

Edit: Or I see now, its the shrinkwrap effect that turns off and on, oops! That works, but the gift wrapping icon is still displayed regardless of off or on.

Basically looking to see if there is a way to permanently leave the shrinkwrap effect on regardless of played (its a cool effect!) but also leave the gift wrap icon overlay permanently off.

OK...that took way longer than a hour, more like 4 hours lol. It's uploaded and ready to go. I added in a new global setting to force the unplayed wrapper even if you have played the game already. Rename the UNPLAYED WRAPPER setting file from:

    UNPLAYED WRAPPER - ON.png

                        to

    UNPLAYED WRAPPER - ALWAYS.png

That should force the wrapper, for ALL 25 platforms. Was a bit of work

For the gift wrapping thats used in a handful of the game list views, I added a custom option to disable those. I modified all the themes that use it, those platforms being: Nintendo DSi, 3DS, All the snes lists pretty much. I assume if you didnt like it on one you don't on the others as well. It's more flexible this way, can't really add it as a global setting since it's only used on a few themes. Also if you like it on one but not the other, a global setting would destroy that option. Hopefully this is what you wanted. I will follow through with this with any future gift stuff. I will admit i did not heavily test the new features. I tested them with one game each platform that was edited, I tested both global and custom options. I may have missed something tho. If something doesnt work,or I forgot something just let me know I'll take care of it.

All you need is the updated Custom Options.txt for v2.23.1, it has the info you need to disable the gift wrapping.

Evening KS...So I got the lifetime sub for Emumovies & with your theme set up ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! And since switching over to my GPU Nvidia processor, EVERYTHING is flowing smooooothly. Haven't even played a game, cause I've been enjoying seeing all the video snaps & all the extra info Emumovies installed...lol Of course I know you plan on doing a theme for the missing consoles & I can imagine all the hard work & dedication it takes, especially knowing you have a family, but with that being said, I can't wait for the finished project :) Take care bud & be safe...

Will take me a long while to fully finish this theme, I have alot of platforms still left to do after early access is finished. I'll keep at it though, every update adds more platforms so even if I take a break at some point its all here waiting for me to return. I can start right where I left off instead of rebuilding all the themes again. I can tell your super hyped about the new setup! I remember the excitement when I first got mine. Im glad you got everything up and running real smooth. Happy for ya brother, game on! The family is all good, sometimes I spend too much time in here playing games, or making themes or what have you. They will drag me outta here if they need me.

You want the wrapper to stay on huh? I can do that. I will have to go over all the game list views and add some logic, and a new setting. I can make it so you name the setting STAY or something instead of off/on.Take a hour or so, as for the gift wrapping I prolly forgot to add some logic to it. Almost all my games are unplayed so I miss that one occasionally. I'll add the reports, and your request to todays todo list. I got a small list of some small bugs as well I need to do. Thank you wildaces, for the reports, compliments, and suggestions. I'll get that stuff taken care of sometime today hopefully. I have some really cool ideas for Arcade, it won't be forgotten. Have some cool ideas for Windows platforms as well. I'm gonna break them all up, arcade and windows. Arcade will have a cabinet with cropped slots so I can change how it looks based on what arcade platform your browsing. Windows will get their own for each release 3.11, 95, 98, etc. Also making individual steam/gog/epic themes. At some point anyway.

I took the day off yesterday and spent the entire day making a novelty Halloween theme for the end of next month. Added some scares and stuff, I started it just to see what I could do and took it way too far like I always do haha. By 9pm I had a full blown spooky thing going on. I had alot of fun working on it, hopefully somebody enjoys it. Might try to finish that up today as well so it's ready for Halloween.

*wasn't gonna post any screenshots of this til a week before halloween. Nobody reads the comments but you and a handful of other people so no harm no foul. It locks itself until halloween day. This is a peek at whats underneath. It might change before then I might use a different movie instead of IT.

Morning KS...Registered over at EmuMovies & been looking around, yes you can download the individual files for each console, but it seems like a pain in the ass to install them all. Would you recommend the yearly subscription? If I'm using BigBox, might as well have all the bells & whistles to make the setup look amazing, especially with your theme :)

Yeah for sure, it's worth it for sure when your setting up your build initially. It makes it ALOT easier. I only cancelled mine because at the time I had all i needed already and rarely used it to get more. Circo is a good dude, I feel he charges too much but I know it prolly took him ages to do all that work he deserves some sort of compensation. I can confidently say you will find it worth every penny. I get mine yearly, plenty of time to get it all downloaded.

Just wanted to drop in and say that performance issues are, of course, inevitable with how robust this theme is. Optimizing is always ideal, but I really appreciate the effort you’re putting in to work with the community and make sure everyone has a good time! Personally, I run a pretty strong rig, so I’m not experiencing any issues myself—though my setup is pretty unorthodox to say the least, haha.

At some point I’ll upload a video of my BigBox collection using this theme, partly to show how well a large collection can run with all the bells and whistles, and partly just to share the hobby with the community.

All in all, this is a solid update as usual. There may be issues I haven’t noticed, but everything looks great on my end. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for this vahn, I was feeling a bit discouraged yesterday about it not working as I wanted for everybody. I will do my best to get everything fixed up at some point. Feels more and more like this is "again" a theme that some users won't be able to enjoy fully due to not having a fast enough rig. I tried my best to counter that this time and still it remains a issue. It is nice to hear it's working as expected for you, and decent enough for others.

I can share any videos you make in the thread if you want extra yt views. That goes for anybody that wants to make one btw, Donnell usually does those but I think he's been busy at work lately. I made a short one last night but had to stop it when my wife finished up dinner.

I'm sure I missed a few things, I will do a better check today like I usually do and fix any reported bugs. I spent extra time in those so they may not have as many bugs. Also gonna start some new views later, Patrick wants to see some Atari on the list so I might start researching those. I've never owned or played any of those so I gotta do some research. I assume they have no bios menu so I'll have to get creative again.

Thanks for all the positive vibes, always helping out, and motivating me to keep going. I'm glad your happy with it so far

Ok bros might be a misunderstanding on my part. I thought your theme included video snaps, but I take it you have to subscribe to EmuMovies to get the video snaps of games included in your theme am I correct?

Yeah, unfortunately Circo charges a monthly fee to access his video snap collection over at emumovies. I have gotten it a few times, its wasteful to just pay for it when I'm not using it so I canceled it last year. I still need to get it at some point I hate the blurry 30fps free videos. Don't feel embarrassed, we all did that lol. I thought you could just grab them here when I first started. Emumovies does have some free snaps you can use, they are a hassle to download and they arent very clear but they work in the meantime.

ALMOST THERE...lol

    20250926_194234.jpg

Glad you got that working! Your gonna need that enabled for more than just BigBox haha. You should notice a huge difference now with emus and other gpu related tasks. It looks like you may not have a video snap for that game 😁 You can always tell because (for some odd reason) it shows a gameplay snap if (if you have one) instead of the video snap. I never added that in, must be a bigbox setting or something. It always cuts off the bottom and top, if you browse to another game (that you now 100% has a video snap) does it still not play?

I've never actually owned one of those fancy gaming laptops, although I've repaired quite a few. Usually it's a bios thing, sometimes it's something else. I'll list some threads below to read and hopefully help ya out a bit. If not I can help ya if you provide me some more info about your laptops make and model, etc.

    SOME (MAYBE) HELPFUL THREADS:

    Laptop not using GPU reddit

Laptop not using GPU windows 11

Laptop not letting me use the dedicated GPU

How to make laptop use dedictaed GPU

If none of those help, send me more info and i'll look up the manual for your laptop and give it a read, see if I can help. Does it never go above 0%? like ever?

Some laptops only let you use the dedicated GPU IF you use hdmi or display port. Others let you reguardless, really depends alot on what laptop you have.

Hey thanks for all that. I checked ryzen master. The 5800x3d doesnt let you manually adjust clock speeds but you can see activity on all the cores. I will try to stress it later and see what happens.

I went nuclear and installed windows 10 on an ssd. On a fresh win10 install with updated drivers and one rom imported in to LB the lag is still present. I was on 13.23 ver of LB I didnt check any other settings but at this point Im running out of things I can think of as the problem besides hardware maybe but why is it just launcbox or even just this theme. Im about to call it quits honestly.

If the other cores have activity then its running on all cores more than likely. I know how that feels man, I feel bad. I wish I could be of more assistance. Without your PC right in front of me I will have a difficult time diagnosing any issues. On the positive side at least she works eh? Theres alot of other really nice themes here that can fill that same gap. I'm here if you need any help in the future. Keep in mind it very well could be this theme, its early access and I plan to clean it up quite a bit once I finish most of the game list views.

I did try to use both the wmp and ffmpeg video playback I also tried a fresh launchbox install and still same issue. Whatever it is it's on my end for sure. No idea though

I did a bit of reading this morning. I didn't find an exact solution, but instead just some things to try. I will list some threads below and you can see if any have any info that sounds helpful.

    Reddit Post #1

    Reddit Post #2

    Reddit Post #3

    Nvidia Forums Post

    Windows 11 Forum

I also read alot of threads that I didnt post because of redundancy.  Most of the threads complained about a faulty gpu driver causing this stutter. I've only seen that in a few instances and yours doesnt compare well to my experiences. I've had several PC's (i used to repair them) do that stutter when the CPU fan was caked with dust and fans clogged. Basically they were overheating, causing the pc to slow to a crawl as the cpu gets dangerously hot. Your problem seems like it is something else. I've seen bad cpu/ram make a pc act real crazy a few times, this one is new.

Since we have 2 sides able to test, one that works ok and one that doesnt, we can compare our setups to see what differs?

    • I have all my frontend stuff on its own nvme
    • I have Windows 10 installed on its own 2nd nvme
    • All my emu's/apps (used for gaming) are on ssd
    • all my roms are on a huge mechanical hdd (8TB)
    • all my pc games are on a VERY large mechanical hdd. (16TB)
    • I use windows 10 (for now)
    • Launchbox settings are out of box default
    • WMP video playback
    • BigBox setting on my end are all default. (do this when making themes so i can see what a new user would see on a default install with no extras)
    • I have 3 monitor setup, 2 run at 70mhz the main one in center runs at 144Mhz.
    • I don't have emumovies sub right now, all my videos are of low quality.
    • I use Nvidia App to update my gpu drivers maybe once a month or so.
    • My windows power plan setting is set to "High Performance".
    • I disabled my CPU overclock and only enabled the boost. (B550+)
    • No GPU overclock, just basic settings that Nvidia App optimizes automatically. (msi 3060 12gb)

I know all this is just info, but we actually have similar setup and similar parts, you might just have some windows setting wrong. So I'll leave these here so you can look over it. I will say again so you don't get too discouraged, i don't see any red flags. The things that draw my attention to hardware are bsod, freezes, and other bad things. You reported none of those. Your gaming rig is faster than mine and should be able to run this theme, as I do if not faster.

UPDATE: Ya know....it sounds more and more like you might not be using all your CPU cores somehow. The pc would indeed react that way if it was only using a single core. Check to make sure with Ryzen Master that your using all cores.

I did think it may have something to do with the qty of roms. I have the full nointro imported. However I moved them all and left just one and I am still experiencing the same behavior. I will attach that screen shot below. The screen shot is when bigbox is focused and the video is playing. When I focus on the task manager the video pauses and all of the menu ui elements run at a proper fps. The only difference there is the i/o rate goes up during video playback but it's on the nvme. I really dont know whats going on but its clearly on my end.

    Screenshot 2025-09-24 201729.png

Task manager looks fine, you never know what people have installed so it's always best to check that first and make sure. If it's running decent when video stops it sounds like that might be some sort of video issue. Might be a dumb question but, you tried setting your video playback to different things in LB settings? I use Windows Media Player.

The i/o is just your power draw, when using the GPU it will draw more power that's normal. Your task manager all looks fine from the screenshot. It's gotta be something else, since it works fine with other themes. Bothers me that it only does that with this theme tbh, I'd like to get to the bottom of it.

I'm not at my pc right now, but tomorrow when I wake up I'll do some research on why something like that might happen, see if I can find anything useful to try.

OK, I'm back. I will be transparent and tell you that I did not let lb finish downloading all that media. My adhd got the better of me and I canceled it maybe 20 mins in (it downloaded maybe 4k assets). It was gonna go on for hours. I can let it download but I dont see how it would effect anything too much, i have all elements set to update "on selection" not during. That means it loads those assets and metadata soon as you stop on a game, thats what causes that bit of lag when stopping on a game, I'm loading alot of info in soon as you select it. I made a video of the test, it seems the same to me but i'll post it below. This test has 4k games added.

Wanna try something for me? open your task manager (ctrl-alt-delete) then open bigbox, then load my theme. I wanna see if your bottlenecking. If you dont mind posting a screen (with NO private info) of the results? Make sure to sort task manager so it pulls the troublemaker (app using the most resources) to the top so I can make sure everything looks ok.

total, maybe 500. I play alot of games over at RA and dont download whole sets just what I plan on playing. I separated those as well when I was making the other region list views, so many 100-200 in nes and 150 in famicom. You think that might be what the issue is? the game count.

I could download the whole set and add them real fast, my bigbox is a dummy right now I can add whatever it doesnt matter really. Its basically barebones.

UPDATE: currently adding 5k to what i have, lb is downloading 27k assets, might take a min. I'll be back with results at some point

Sorry it took me a few days to get back to you on this. I recorded a video that shows my experience. Basically night and day from yours. I used a couple of other themes as reference including the original coverbox. The other themes runner very smooth but when I use coverbox remaster the framerate drops very low. You can see the animation, videos, and scrolling are all very sluggish. I do see that when I focus out of bigbox the video stops and the rest of the animations run at the correct fps. I would say that this is all on my end but then Im not sure why other themes would work ok and this one will not.

Wow, that's some brutal lag you weren't lying.  I def don't experience that with my snaps at all. Which is weird because we have similar specs. Not sure exactly what's going on with that man, I do know this theme runs slower than all the others because almost all the other themes here are designed to run fast an smooth, for cabinets and such. I don't own a cabinet and will never build one, so I dont need it to run super fast, I'd rather have all the details. So I built a theme just for that. I only use BigBox to browse through and look at my games, it's the best fullscreen frontend and it has its own theme creator (CTC). I use Playnite for my main frontend, when I actually want to "play" a game I use that. The OG coverbox works so fast because there aren't as many elements and fine details as this one. Each element I add creates some overhead. I can't do both. It's either fast and responsive, or packed with details. In my opinion I think my "packed with details" theme is making some issue you have worse and more noticeable. Do you update your GPU drivers frequently? Updating the drivers has solved my issues a few times with weird quirky things like this. Wish I had better information to give you....on the bright side I know a bit about troubleshooting pc issues and I will say that laggy videos isn't something that sounds severe. Sounds like a driver issue maybe, or some conflicting app or something. No nahamic right?

As you mentioned bud, I also want it to he as fast as possible, but really don't wanna remove all the cool features within it. Totally agree on each file having its place inside your theme. I'll try messing around with global settings & go down the list you recommended in turning them off, but if anything, I'll just leave it as is & wait for you to work your magic :) Will I just have to download & overwrite existing files with those updates?

Yep, you just overwrite the old version with the new ones. Addons are updated the same way. Just drag and drop and overwrite the old version. Likely wont have to do a clean install until its out of early access. There is a ton of stuff you can add to the theme in the bonus media section, that would be the only stuff you would want to backup if you do a clean install in the future. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and let me know what you think of the theme.

Just installed & WOW it certainly makes BigBox look AMAZING!!! Animation slows down a bit once I enter into a specific system, might have to make some adjustments to speed it up a bit, got any suggestions? REALLY wouldn't wanna take nothing out, as it all looks just right. Also made the recommended suggestions on BigBox as you described. BEST theme on BigBox by far, GREAT job bud :)

I'm glad you like it so far, some of the views need a bit more polish with the animations thats what causes most of those 1 sec lags. I'll go through them all once I get most of the views finished, it takes a while to get it right. When you first enter a game list it loads all the assets in, some have more elements than others so they will lag a bit more when entering the list. The fade into gameplay snaps isnt as smooth as I'd like either, I plan to work on that sometime in the future and get all that ironed out.

As far as speeding it up a bit you can try turning things on and off with the global settings. Removing or disabling things is the only real way to speed it up aside from waiting for me to polish those animations. Even then, it will only help so much. I have that same problem when making the views, I want it to be as fast as possible but I also want all the cool stuff with it. I hate to remove things, since it all has its place in theme. I have had to remove things a few times now and might again in the future to speed up a few of those game lists....it's painful to delete something i spent half a day on, but it's for the greater good sometimes.

So after installing the main unzipped file into Launchbox Themes, I just cut & paste the BGM & BG files into the same Launchbox Themes & it'll play them as well when I install your main theme to play on BigBox? BigBox will read all 3 as 1 big file?

Yes sir, it sure will. I even added logic for you to check the install status on the settings view. Install the theme, enter bigbox settings, it will display what all you have installed, and the version and such.

Thanks for the explanation bud & for your quick response back. Most of the time you leave a comment & either never get a response back or it takes forever, but it shows that you care & wanna help out :) After installing the main file into themes, how do I go about also plugging in the BGM & BG files so they play as well? Wanna get the FULL expierience of your AMAZING theme with BigBox on my new LenovoLOQ screened to my 85" tv ;)

Ah it's no problem, I like to help. Those are easy to install, I have the zips setup so you just drag and drop them just like the theme. It looks like your installing the theme again but its just the missing files for those addons.

Also it goes both ways haha, most people just download it and never leave a comment or review. Just the way she goes i guess.

AMAZING theme KingSlayer, can't wait to try it with my BigBox setup, but really quick, in your download files you have 6 different files, will downloading just the newest remastered v2.18.3 zip be good enough or should I download all? What are the differences in each?

Thank you sir. Sorry about that confusion, I should add some info to the description about the files. To answer your question, you only need "Coverbox Remastered v2.XX.zip". There are addons for v2.XX, that you can download as well (BGM, BG Videos, Holiday Events). You should be good to go after installing v2.18 though, addons are optional.

The other version is the old fragments (V1.XX), those are installed a little differently. That was my first attempt at this a year or so ago.

Since it's still early access I have all the files uploaded to this main thread. I will separate them and add them to their correct locations in the download section once I get this all polished up. For now it's easier for people to have them all here so they can test it out real fast. I'll write a small section explaining what the files are in the description.
