Thank you good sir, that fixed it. Why on Earth launchbox would not set that path from the original mass import wizard is beyond me. "Hi, I'm the launchbox wizard, let's import the ROMS! Oh, and I'm also going to set some other directory as your ROM directory that you're about to choose." That might be the most un-intuitive thing I've ever seen. Regardless, that fixed it. Thanks again.
-
So, I did a massive import - and then I added a couple more files to the directory. I then do "tools => scan for added roms" and launchbox is always like "nothing found!" What is going on???
-
lol, ok
-
Oh wow, really? Mine is like 30 megs and has a ton of information in it. Just want to confirm once more before I delete it since it's so large and has a ton of information in it.
-
Ah thank you, I believe that fixed it. God forbid there's just one settings file. If anyone in the future ever has this issue, the two files I had to edit were: .\launchbox\launchbox.xml .\launchbox\data\platforms.xml Launchbox version 7.7
-
Never mind - figured it out. It's under manage => platforms => folders. Holy crap, is there an easy way to mass edit this to change it to the correct directory?
-
So launchbox is described as portable... I used to run it over a network drive, but decided to increase performance to move it locally. So, I installed it on my C: drive and then copied over the configs etc. from my R: drive. Everything works fine, however, whenever I open launchbox now it just starts creating folders back on the old R: drive like: R:\launchbox\images R:\launchbox\music etc. but I cannot figure out what in launchbox is referencing this for me to fix the problem. All of the folders it's creating are empty. Why is it doing this? I've looked in options everywhere and cannot find anything pointing to that. I looked in the .xml file, but it's so large it even lags notepad++ Help!

SentaiBrad said I understand, but Front and Back should be split folders. They shouldn't be in the same location. Here is one of my image folders: Yea, never mind, I'm an idiot for two reasons... 1) I can just make a new folder and assign the front art to that, and copy the images I want in there after they are named properly. 2) What I thought was happening was that it was the front and back art, but really what it was is one of them was the 2d front image and the second one was the 3d front image.
-
SentaiBrad said Nope, LaunchBox deals with jpeg and png files just fine. Shouldn't matter. I guess what I'm saying though, is if I copy those over without renaming them, then it's going to override the images that are the "back box art" as those are mainly the .png files. Since in the \front folder it contains both the front box and back box art, how do I make sure that launchbox is going to use which image to show as the cart image? (I hope you understand what I'm asking :)
-
SentaiBrad - wait, now I'm confused again... So the images in the screenshot folder (the ones that are the actual cart images - the ones I want to be the main image) are almost all PNG files. However, in the front folder that I need to copy those images to, there is a front box and rear box art. One is JPG and the other is PNG... so... do I also just rename the PNG to JPG before copying them over to the \front folder?
-
SentaiBrad said No worries, I just wanted to make sure you saw what I was saying. You are also more understanding than most users too, so don't worry about it. The easiest way I would solve this is to yea, search for the images you want. If in this case they are the images with 1 attached to them, then search them up in the folder and move them. I would personally also use a program called Métamorphose 1 v 1.1.2 (version 2 has a slightly more complicated UI), and use it to take out the "-1" portion's of the file name. You can them move them to the games box art folder or where ever you want. Since they should have the same name as the front box art images now, you can either replace the existing ones so that it is mostly cart images or don't have the cart images overwrite the box art and then you will have it be mostly box art. Either way, the result should be less holes. It's not a nice solution granted, but it is a solution before features like Tiered Images can be implemented. http://file-folder-ren.sourceforge.net/index.php?page=Download Any other file renamer will work, this is just the one I use. ok, awesome, will do. I have BRU as my mass renamer, but I've always thought it was way over complicated for an interface so I'll check out metamorphose :) *edit* I should also add, I'm currently re-scraping all the art - I told it to replace all metadata and I told it to only scrape the cart art... going to see how that goes too

SentaiBrad said fdsj82juifaa said weltall said No. The names of these images are right, because they are not meant to be front covers. Front cover images do not have numebrs in the end, but Screenshots and others do, because there might be more than just 1 of them, which is why you see 02 and 03. But front cover images have have only one, which is why they do not have a number. This is meant to be normal. OK, gotcha... then I guess I should put in a feature request to be able to change the default image to a different image. Because having to mass rename images isn't exactly user friendly to change the cart image. Re-read my post. I just posted the ticket that will solve this issue with images. The images need to be named based on the game so that LaunchBox can recognize them. The numbers are only there for other media types. If the image you want are all the number 1's, filter the number 1's out with the Windows Search function and put them in the folder. If there is only 1 image to pull from it will only use the 1 image. Also we are user friendly, because this one feature isn't in doesn't make it not user friendly. We are also totally open to changing things as we need to. There is 1 developer who develops LaunchBox and has a family, so these things take time but we still progress at a fast speed compared to the rest of the competition. @SentaiBrad - oh, please don't take my post the wrong way! Sometimes tone is hard to understand over the internet when just reading text. I can 100% appreciate having a family and having almost zero free time (as I myself have 3 kids) and PLEASE understand that this program is by far my favorite of the bunch. I stopped half way into setting up hyperspin to change to this application! So, I do love it a lot! Some things could just be more user friendly, but, I totally get that this application is still being developed and more stuff will happen further down the line. I wouldn't have given him $50 if I didn't appreciate his work :) And thanks for the clarification, - so, if I understand you correctly do the following: 1) search for all -01 images in the atari2600\screenshot\cart folder 2) copy all images found to the atari2600\front folder

weltall said The reason must be the -01 in the end. I use Screenshots for missing covers and I used a batch renamer, namely "File Renamer Basic" to remove from the image names the -01, so the screenshots can work as boxart images. Oh wow, wth... these images were downloaded with launchbox... should we put in a bug ticket???
-
DOS76 said Under tools you will see an option for manage platforms when you choose a platform and hit edit you will see options to change folder locations just point the boxart section to where your cart images are. I changed it to that directory you suggested, but it's showing the wrong image... Instead of the cart image, the banners are showing up for some reason? (see attached image)

How do I set what I want to use as the default image for the rom? I'd like to have all of them as the cart art instead of box, etc. I see that those images have downloaded when I cycle through all the images, however, I cannot figure out how to set that as the default for what I see in bigbox mode.
-
weltall said -Edit- Ah yes I forgot to say, that to choose the non cover ones I have, I arrange them Launchbox Games Database ID. On the top of the results are the games not yet included in the Database, so the rest that are included should have boxart. Amongst these that are not included in the database, some might have boxart from Emumovies, so I mark the rest and put them in the 0No Cover category. This makes finding the non cover files easy. Ahhh, brilliant! This is a good workaround for now. I hope that in the future launchbox incorporates some sort of "seek out and fix art" sort of wizard...

I'm going through all my roms and I want to clean up a bunch of stuff and make it look nice. I don't like not having box art for games. So, what I'd like to do is have launchbox show me all the games that are missing boxart for the rom. That way, I can see the games, decide if I care about them, and if not, delete them. I was thinking maybe I could show it in a list view, and then add a column that showed the path to the box art. That way I could see all the fields that are empty and know they didn't have box art. However, I don't see an option to add that as a column. Is there a way to do this?

Amazing... I exited and relaunched the app and now it's there. Weird.

AutumnSounds said Is this for one particular ROM or your entire NES collection? If it's just one ROM it's worth noting that EmuMovies isn't "Complete" and still growing. If it's ALL roms and you've checked your EmuMovies credentials in Tools > Options and successfully tested with the 'Test' button I guess there's another issue, but will be good to rule the above out first. It doesn't give me that option for any/all ROMs, no matter the system... I have checked my emu settings and it logs in just fine.
-
There is no video option... :( that's why I was doing it the other way, I didn't think launchbox supported it...

So I got super excited to see this. I even purchased the lifetime subscription on emumovies so I could get everything I wanted. But.... now I'm a bit concerned. What I thought was an application to make things easy might not be the case. Maybe I'm missing something? So, I started today on working at importing movies for my NES games. I downloaded the emu media downloader. I pointed it to my rom folder (specifically NES) and said "download away..." However, I've noticed that it downloads box art like: 8 Eyes (U) [!].png And videos like: 8 Eyes (U) [!].mp4 While Launchbox's format is: 8 Eyes.jpg So, my first thought was "I'm going to replace all the art with the 3d art, etc. from emu movies." However, unless I want to rename thousands of files, I don't see an easy option to do this? Secondly, now that I have thousands of videos for the games, I just realized I cannot see an easy way to add them now either? Do I have to edit every single game and then select the video file and then hit save? Please say it ain't so!!!! I must be missing something?

DOS76 said I have that issue always with games that have a part 1 and part 2 both being named part 2 happens all the time you just have to check out your boxes and look for dupes and then if you have the games details pane open you can see which file you have and can change the right one. ok, right on, I'll probably just donate to them so I can grab all the art, vids, etc. - then I'll buy this app so I can have big picture mode. Once I get it all setup I'll work on adding it to Kodi. I've been enjoying this so far. A lot easier than hyperspin. I was getting frustrated with EmulationStation due to the fact it's no longer developed and because the application doesn't ever end. I would have like 20 instances of that process running on my media center. It was really annoying. Glad to finally find LaunchBox last night. And thanks for the link, I will check out the videos. I'm excited to see where this application goes. Hopefully more themes, etc. are on the horizon!

SentaiBrad said If you add new games to the folder just re-run the import process or just add the game manually if it's a single game. Drag and Drop or the Add button in the bottom right. The import process won't add duplicates unless you force it to. There is a music folder in your LaunchBox folder, along with an Images, Manual and Video folder. Go in to the music folder, then the system, and find the song. Should be named after the game. If there is 1 song, then it's associated to both. Delete it and re-download the song for the right game. If there is two, delete one and test the games, you may need to restart LB though. If the new game has a song you could also try downloading it's song, it should replace the old one. If you wanna remove the metadata from the game just delete it from the edit box then run the scan. Also no problem, I like helping. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. Does the music come from emu? If so, that might be why it's not grabbing it since I've clearly hit my quota for today...

SentaiBrad said Just right click and Edit the wrong game, press the X for the images (to delete them from being associated with the entry) and then click the X in the top right edit box to disassociate it with that game in the Database. Not the X for the Edit box, when a game has been found on Wikipedia or the LBGDB there will be a blue link in the top right and an X next to it. You may also want to delete the Metadata for the game as well, the new entry may not replace every piece of metadata already downloaded. A new button pops up asking to scan for that game, then choose the right game from the drop down menu. If you want to re-scan an entire system (that wont fix this problem though), Click a system on the left then Ctrl + A to highlight everything. Then use the Tools -> Download Metadata and Images option. You were also right, those 404's are from EmuMovies and it's because you have a free account. OK, I was able to delete the images, and I removed the ID association, however, I cannot figure out how to remove the rest of the data. For example, it's still playing music from the wrong game. Not sure how to fix that? Also, say I add a game to that directory later, what's the process to have it scan that directory for new roms added? I'm not seeing a refresh, or scan again option anywhere... Thank you for your help by the way.
