  1. I left the computer alone for 15 mins or so, and it actually got into options by the time I came back. Any idea what could slow it down this much?

And no option to mark as favourite with a keybind yet that I can find.

  2. Hey and thanks for a fantastic product. I've not used Launchbox for some time, but I just added a new set of games and I wanted to go through them and add favourites. I therefore started up Big Box and my plan was to go to Options to check if there is a key binding for favourites there so I didn't have to enter the sub meny to do it for every game.

However, when I enter Optins, Big Box just hangs and nothing happens. I've tried a few times now, waited for a about 5 mins or so before I quit the program.

I'm not really sure where to start troubleshooting. Have anyone got a hot tip for me? :)

  3. I just wanna say that I'm also making an official request for import functions for all the mentioned platforms. I basicly only have a handful og games installed on my SSD and my 500/500 connection takes care of the rest. Some way to link up other Launchers like Origin, Uplay, Microsoft Store etc. for easy install. That would be quite lovely! :)

Hey man i am following your instructions, could you tell me how to mass edit the xml files in notepad++ im seeing the lines for each game <applicationpath> etc but i don't know how to mass edit them all at once thanks, also my exodos folder is on my D drive and launchbox on E so could you possibly show me how you have done yours thanks

image.thumb.png.b925df04a9dce13d28846cfb3afc921b.pngOpen MS-DOS.xml in Notepad++ and use this function. Use the path where your games are stored (You mentioned D drive, so I just used that in my example) in the "Replace with :" and select Replace All. It will take care of both <ApplicationPath> and <RootFolder>.

  5. Just wanted to share how I easily imported this collection into my current LB setup:

    1. Run setup.bat

    2. Unpack AdvMetadata.zip in current LB folder. Do not overwrite any files, leave the original ones be.

    3. Used Notepad++ to mass edit all the folder paths in Data\Platforms\ms-dos.xml

    4. Followed nikeymikeys way of importing gameplay vidoes without screwing up metadata.

    Voila

I did this before thinking about mklink, so that might be even easier. This also works if you, for some reason, don't want to mess with mklink. I know I might have problems whenever the next 4 parts comes out, but it's not really much work to redo it. :)

I don't never I've never done so the CHD's are just disc files that work with the rom so if a needs both you need to have both or it won't work CHD files shouldn't be in zipped format they should be in folders with chd files inside of those so now you are confusing me

Sorry, my bad! No zips. Just folders with CHD files in them. My understanding have been that the CHD files were games in themselves, but you're saying that it's actually an extension that some games need to run. I don't quite get why they aren't in the MAME 0.184 ROMs (non-merged) to begin with then. Anyway, thanks for clearing that up. I'm just gonna make the directory with all the CHDs available in MAME then. As you understand this is my first time meddling with Arcade games so I'm very much a n00b.

Yeah I'm not saying don't bother with obtaining the CHD's just wouldn't bother adding them to LB although you could just get them individually as you run into errors telling you you need them and then you will save a ton of space by having only the ones you know you need to play specific games that you want to play

Not 100% sure if we're on the same page here. My English is probably not good enough as I feel I always end up like this when I'm using forums! :D I'll try again.

I have imported the regular 0.184 non-merged set into Launchbox. It resulted in about 2800 games from the the around 38 000 zip files in the directory. I excluded all things that could be excluded of mohjang games and so on. I then went through this collection and tried to scrape and rename the duplicates which wasn't really the same game. I also tested a few of my favorites.

After I had done this, I imported the chd set with zip files in them. As this set is very large, my understanding is that the chd games are disk based and hence I expect it to be newer games or if they are duplicates of the "normal" set, enhanced versions of them. I haven't really tried to start them with MAME before I imported. Even if the import list showed quite a lot of games, only a very few games actually got imported into Launchbox (I think it was 5 games). I reckon the reason for this is that the rest are duplicates since they all are marked with Arcade games.

So I guess my question really is, what do you guys get from importing the chd set? :)

There are only a few CHD games that don't have corresponding .zip files that go with them so most games if in a working state and use CHD will already be added you will find that a large majority of the games that use CHD files don't even work in MAME yet. I have all the CHD files but I've never tried to import them in to LB myself as there is very little reason to you would probably be better off finding out the few CHD games that don't have ROMs to match them and only importing those if you even want to bother doing so.

I see. I wount bother with it then. They just take up space anyways. Thanks!

THE CHD files are the hard-drive files themselves (so game data, not the game itself). Typically when importing a mame set, there are many versions of many of the games so the actual amount of individual games typically seems a lot lower than the number of files in a mame set. A lot of the mame games are unplayable without the corresponding CHD files. Hope this helps.

    Thanks you for your reply.

The numbers are one thing, but should I delete everything and import the CHD files first in order to get the best experience from a game with many versions? Are the CHD versions generally better than the other ones?

  10. Ok so I got the 0.184 sets. I grabbed them all, but been using the non-merged set to keep it as fuzz free as possible. As stated earlier in this thread it resulted in almost 2800 games imported with all the filters on. Since the folder with all the zip files contains over 34 000 I thought this number seemed a bit low, but ok. I can't say I miss anything so I'll leave it there.

I then went to import the CHD set too. I was expecting those to further expand the library a bit, but it only imported 5 games (I think it was 5, been a few weeks since I did this already). Is this all correct? Whats the point with the CHD based set if doesnt have anything new? I was thinking of doing it the other way around, since my limited understanding of this says that CHD-based games should be "better" since it uses a "harddrive".

Could someone a little more experienced comment on this? Have I missed something? It's not that I don't there is enough games, I just wanna do it as right as possible.

  11. I ended up reading through all of this once more realized that DOS76 was actually speaking bout video files on all games in a platform that can be changed at once. I wasn't to happy with the performance from my NAS so I'll probably end up with buying more space. Thank you very much for answers both of you.

i didn't read through all of this, but you might find mklink a good solution to changing default LB paths to actually look somewhere else if you need or want to do that, using symbolic links.

Thanks for that. I haven't really considered that as I'm not familiar with the use of mklink. I do, however understand it's use after reading up a bit. I am not quite sure I understand what you get after a making a symbolic link? What will be the output of say:
    MKLlink /D Col C:\GOG Games\Colonization\ ?

I'm getting syntax errors however I write it...

I have some experience with running LB using network locations for various ROM files and such but not really what you are talking about If you use Steam you can use in home streaming to play BigBox on all you computers from the host as long as your controls support xinput so that may be an issue with the arcade setup. You could also direct LB to a video folder on a network location but I don't know if there would be any performance issues as I've never tested that to change where a platform looks for its videos go into Tools>Manage Platforms double click the platform you want to edit and when the new form opens up go to the folders tab and there you can change the paths unfortunately you will have to change all the paths individually per platform as there is no way to change where LB looks for the root video folder

    Thank you for your answer.

Well the way you mentioned with the vidoes is a good start. I've been looking for a way like that without any success. It's a good start. And I'm almost relived that there are not any real easy way of doing this that I haven't been able to figure out. It works great this way for the roms themselves, so it'll be fun to try. Just gotta make sure that paths are the same on all 3 computers, which should not really be a problem. Would be great if they would let us change the default path for videos at least. Incredible amount of work if I have to through all the games and change them one by one.

I don't see any easy solution to the whole program but if I can sort the videoes and then find an elegant way to sync the libraries I would be satisfied.

I was thinking of trying to set up folder sync with Resilio Sync and then sort out Library sharing this way. I think that might work so I don't have to take copy each folder every time.

Happy for more tips if anyone have any! :)

  14. Hey, I bought Launchbox a while back after a pretty thorough research on what frontend to use on my arcade. BigBox was just released and when I saw how far Unbroken had come with it after such a short time, I just couldn't help being mighty impressed. I do not regret this at all. I only wish I had more time to fiddle with it.

However after seeing all this software can do, my thoughts on using it have expanded a bit and I haven't really had the time to customize things as I had hoped. Therefore I am seeking your council before I start all-over.

I currently have a pretty weak Arcade cabinet which will not be able to run the newest platforms and never really was intended too.
I also have a pretty decent media PC which primary use is Kodi, but it also got a 780GTX installed and were intended for games. I therefore wish to expand the library with newer stuff on this machine.
I also have an office/gamer PC which I use for "everything else". Although I probably wount use Launchbox/BigBox much on this computer, I would very much like to use this for configuration and adding stuff to the library.

Up until now I have used Teamviewer and configured the Arcade and the MediaPC as two different installations, but I'm getting sick of setting up everything twice. I could of course just copy the Launchbox around as it is designed to be able to run from everywhere with all files in the original folder, but I wanted to know if there were a smoother way to do it. Another problem with my old approach, is that the Arcade have limited space (128 SSD), and the video folder is growing very big (got a subscription from Emumovies as well). As I have some experience with Kodi in more than one room, I've made a pretty smooth setup here with MySQL for a shared database across all clients. I was wondering if there is something similar I can do with Launchbox? I tried running it directly from my NAS, but it was so slow I couldn't take it, and besides I don't wish for everything to be available from everywhere.

I have a few thoughts on how to manages this, but it all feels a bit old fashioned. Do you have any advice for a n00b?
