  1. Bumping this because I agree. I'd also love to see this. If not as an official included feature in LaunchBox, at least as a plugin. SteamGridDB's got a fantastic selection of artwork for just Windows and MS-DOS games alone, let alone emulated console games. So it'd be a good option in the (sadly frequent) event that imported Steam games end up having missing media. Or, say, you have multiple Windows games from multiple sources (Steam itself, GoG, Game Pass, etc.) and you want them all to have a consistent box art aspect ratio.

Edit Game > Startup/Pause > Override Default Startup Screen Settings

Then click click Customize to adjust to your liking

Startup themes are totally optional. No need for scripting because there is already a feature that lets you customize these settings down to as fined tuned as the per game level. In your case you could try turning up the delay time on the slider so the startup screen displays longer for the games that take more time to startup, or turn them off completely if that is all you're after.

I've tried messing with that and it only seems to work when it feels like it... Even so, that still doesn't solve the problem of certain steam games (Spyro Reignited is the one I keep benchmarking for this) taking nearly 20 seconds to load when launched from Big Box even when I have both LaunchBox and the game installed on a NVME SSD... If it can't be AHK scripted, then maybe a future version of LaunchBox should just straight-up add a minimize on launch option in the override settings as a "when all else fails" sort of solution.

  3. Out of curiosity, I'm wondering if it's possible to create a script that just simply minimizes Big Box when launching a Steam game instead of showing the "Loading Game" message or showing a startup screen. There are a few games in my library (Spyro Reignited being a notorious offender) that take noticeably longer to launch from Big Box than from LaunchBox desktop mode or other full-screen frontends like Playnite. I think it might have something to do with how Big Box in its current form handles Window focusing.

Thanks all for the testing and feedback. Beta 2 is out now with the following:

    • Fixed all known cases where folders weren't opening and/or games weren't launching
    • Fixed column visibility not sticking with the LaunchBox list view
    • Hopeful fix for LaunchBox plugin issues (tested with Steam Scraper and YouTube Scraper plugins)
    • Fixed EmuMovies credentials being forgotten
    • Fixed Epic Games importer not showing any games
    • Made the Region and Image Priorities check box lists less confusing to use (selection vs. checking)
    • The setup now prompts you to download and install .NET Core 3.1.6 if needed

Hopefully this will address most of the issues. Apparently with .NET Core, you can distribute it so that it does not require the framework to be installed, but it requires separate versions for x64 and x86, and would require an extra 100 megabytes on top for the download, so we've decided to not do that and just prompt users to download and install .NET Core if needed during the setup.

I can confirm that Steam shortcuts are working again. Thank you for addressing that.

  5. All of my Steam shortcuts are broken on this build. Every time I try to launch one of them, I get an error saying that "The system cannot find the file specified".

  6. reference1.thumb.jpg.2c2c62d711018fbd7d53e59622311922.jpgOn 7.8 beta 7, I seem to be having issues with adding two auto populate fields in one playlist.

You see, I'm trying to create an auto populating playlist called "90's Games" that contains games released between 1/1/1990 and 12/31/1999. I've been trying to do this by having one field that lists games with the release date being "on or after" 1/1/1990 and another field that lists games released "on or before" 12/31/1999. Whenever I save the playlist with both of these two fields entered, It lists almost every single game in my LaunchBox library that has a release date in it's metadata at once instead of limiting itself to between the two release dates I set in the fields. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?
