Emu does exit on escape key but not on controller automation

I recently installed Launchbox but I am not able to make exit function works, everything on the controller works fine but when I am hit the button combination to exit emulator I see a bit of flash on the game (like brightness increase for like 1 sec) and nothing happens. I tried on mame and Deplhin emu but no luck plus have same issue on both launchbox and Big Box. I am using Xbox360 controller. thanks, Sami
