  1. Do you have any tutorial / instructions you use to compile this version.   I have no issue using this one - but was looking to just learn how to do it myself.

After a couple hurdles - I get to the point trying to apply the patch (suppression_0237u3.txt) - and get the following error from the patch command : Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?

I am not right at my system right now but yes you can set a different theme for each platform as well as the main menu. You can set a button in the settings to change theme and change view and these changes are made independently instead of changing the entire theme. Just go inside the platform you would like and hit one of the buttons you set to either change view or change the theme for that platform entirely. My current setup by memory is

    main menu > BannerBox

    Platforms except arcade > Coverbox

    Arcade > Unified Redux

Thanks - that worked.  I knew I was missing something simple - had to set a key to change the theme.

  3. I am going through with trying to learn how to create a platform video, and have a few conceptual questions.   I don't have the exact toolset you do - and don't expect you to know the details of these tools, but I want to get an idea of the process for making the video.

For the image editing I am using GIMP

For the video editing I am trying out Filmora9

For the video editing piece - what I have found I can do is use the green screen effect to insert a video into the "picture" area on any of the TVs / Displays.   I think this will work - but wanted to check if this is the proper way to insert a video.

I also wanted to understand how the process to create the playlist videos.  I imagine this process is more complex with all the TVs at different angles, some of which are "3-D" rotations.   Is it safe to say changing these videos would be more complex for a beginner and probably not the place to start?

Any guidance on this part of the process would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  4. Quick question on the MAME bezels from the bezel project.  I am using RL for my bezel system - but wanted to see how others were handing clones/versions of the Roms that don’t match the bezel project.

Some of the versions of Roms LB imports don’t match the folder in the bezel project (I.e rom in LB will have ‘u’ at the end).  I have played around prioritizing different regions but it happens for different rims no matter what.

I am working on a rename utility - but didn’t know if anyone else tackled this before.

  5. I think this is a classic “to each his own” topic.

I use RL for the fade screens, bezels, and pause.  I haven’t used any of that in LB  because I had it setup already in RL.

Personally I like the flexibility and customization RL gives me.  Most times I never need to use it- but it is handy when I do. Recently I used the UserFunction capability to create core specific devreorder.inis for Retroarch, since I used different controllers for different cores.

So I like the abstraction it provides and plan to continue to use it.

  6. I have read through a couple posts to try to find the best approach for updating romsets in launchbox, but it is not clear to me how to do it.

For MAME - I use the "All Killer No Filler" playlists as well as a few other custom ones and don't want to mess any of that up.

For Console / Handhelds - I use the No - Intro set, not much custom playlists for any of them.

What is the best approach to update the MAME set (to latest .220) and update my No-Intro Set?

For the No-Intro - I was just going to copy the last ROMs and then do the Tools --> Scan for Added / Scan For Removed.   I wasn't sure if that is the best approach.

For Mame - would the same approach work?

  7. Anyone have any tips for how to rebuild this romset?  I have an older version of the EMU (2a and 3a WIP) that can load up the games.

When I download a newer version from emuCR that comes with a Games.xml - the games never load up at all.  I am thinking it has to do with the roms.

  8. Thanks.  I mostly want to sync the LB directory, and I have the drive paths identical, so that should work.

I have my emulators in a separate directory and mostly use retro arch so I think after the initial setup I should be good there as well based on what you stated.

    Thanks for the help.

  9. I currently have Launchbox on my primary desktop,  as well as my Arcade Cabinet.   I have been living with configuring the Arcade PC with TeamViewer, but ideally I would like to be able to do the following:

    1) Add / Edit Systems to LB on my desktop PC

    2) "Sync" this configuration / setup to my Arcade PC without having to reconfigure this on that PC

I am thinking about using a tool (I have GoodSync) to sync the LB directories, but I wanted to see if that will cause known problems, or if it should just "work"

Ok, so now I have used clrmamepro to ensure that I have the full sets of my console games.  I basically go in create a profile, add rom path, then hit scan.  GOT that.  Now what else can I do.

    1.  Can I sepperate the roms into north america and delete the rest, or create different subdirectories for each of the other regions?

For the console games (assuming No-Intro) download the P/Clone XML version for dat-o-matic. Then you can select the 1G1R option in clrmamapro (1 game 1 region) option and separate those Roma by region.  I had a tutorial but don’t have the link now  I’ll post it later if I can find it.  But if you google “clrmamepro 1G1R” you should find what u need.

    2. When i go to update the set to the newest version, what do I do, and does it help me join in at lets say 50%?

Yes - when a new set comes out. Download the new dat- run it through the scanner with the fix options. It will rename anything u have that got renamed. Then u should join at a good percentage.

    etc.

    what is rebuilder, merger etc?

Rebuilder comes into play for updating the MAME sets. Looks like you found a tutorial on that.

Welcome to the community and feel free to join in on any discussion you like but if you want to really handle some busy work you can help out with the database which you will need to make separate login for.

    https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/account/signin?returnurl=%2fgames%2fadd

Don't want to hijack this - I am new to this forum as well.  How does one hop in and help with the database?  Is there any forum topic that lists out systems that need some help filling in?

  12. I don't think putting images on your NAS drive is going to get you the performance you are looking for, and symbolic links won't help.

Are the images taking up the large amount of space, or is it the roms?  I think roms on your NAS is fine - but I would keep the images locally.

  13. Rocket Launcher is pretty easy to setup, and if you are only configuring MAME initially it shouldn't be too time consuming.  That would be the easiest way to get Bezels for most MAME games.  There are many Bezel Packs available in their forums and other places if you google "MAME Bezel Packs".

    That's just my opinion.

    1.  What is the best program to use for dats?

I personally use CLRMamepro.  I fell like all ROM Managers take some getting used to, but this has the most "material" out there if you need help.  Once you get this one down - it is pretty simple to understand.  I spent the holiday's updating my sets, and a good amount of that time was just refreshing my understanding of DATs / Sets etc.  If you re-familiarize yourself with the concepts, using the tool becomes easier.

    2.  what are dats used for?

The DATs are used to validate your ROMs against a "Set".  When I say "Set" I mean one of the published set of ROMs (No-Intro, MAME, ReDump, etc.).

    Quote

    3.  Are there dats for images also?

There are DATs for the main sets that include "Images" (assuming you mean disk based games) - ReDump, Trurip, TOSEC

    4.  How reliable are dats?

Not sure what you mean by "reliable" but they will reliably match your set of roms to the current known versions for a given Set/Version.

    5.  Do you have to certain sets to use certain dats?  for example if I download a NES set that is  TOSEC and want to convert it to no-intro, is that possible?

I have been put of emulation for about 10 years and now looking at updating everything.  I used dats and i think romcenter before.  I remember images were always a problem and the different naming conventions were an issue.

I don't believe you can use a Rom Mgmt. tool to rebuild different sets of ROMs, because the different "sets" have different ways they dump roms.  Perhaps this is possible in some instances, more for arcade / cart based systems but I am not sure.  I have used the tools to "rebuild" sets, but that is more for updated say an old No-Into set to a new No-Intro set.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For what it is worth - I am switching over from HyperSpin to use Launchbox, and love it so far.  Part of that migration was to "simplify" my rom collection, and I settled on just using No-Into sets for cart based games, and ReDump for disk based games.  Therefore all my rom collections now are verified against the specific DAT files provided for those sets.  It has worked out well for me, and allowed me to clean up a lot of duplicate things I had.
