Default cycles is now way slower

I started playing a game that I last played over a year ago. Both times cycles was set to default, but now it's WAY slower, with much more lag with animation and sprites. I even compared video of it to confirm. I checked the task manager and it seems there's plenty of bandwidth. What could be going on?
