Start button exits emulation

When i press the "start" button on my Xbox one or PS4 controllers it exits emulation.  Previously I had automation set to press start and select together to exit emulation.  Any ideas of what I may have changed that caused this?

OK, So i figured out what I changed.  I enabled XBox controller support in Steam.  This makes the controller act like a keyboard/mouse input device.  Disabled it and everything is back to expected behavior.
