Leaderboard problems with mame

Trying to get the leaderboards working with Mame using Launchbox (not BigBox). I have logged into the LaunchBox database... even did a sync. I hit the tick box that allows for uploading my high scores (Options-->Integrations-->Mame). I am playing games that have an active leader board.

The only theory I have is that I am using the 2003 version of mame. Is there a specific version that I need to be using?

Also on the howto video, it mentions that I can't have cheats on. How do I check that?

I Doubt if leaderboards works with Mame 2003. I am currently using MAME 0.244 (which is about a year old now). In the mame.ini file you need to have the following lines somewhere:

autosave    0

cheat         0

nvram_save     1

plugins       1

plugin        hiscore

make sure mame is saving local highscores for your games. The hiscore.dat file needs to be the correct one for the version of mame you are using, and in the folder of where the *.hi files are saved.

Also all of the dipswitch settings must be set to default or stock, otherwise the high score for that particular game will not be uploaded.

Some games have particular nuances in order to have upload score. Some require starting a new game before exiting, others require the local high score table to appear in attract mode before playing, among others.

It is also possible for the .hi game file and/or nvram game folder to get corrupted. deleting either of these only removes your local high scores.

That is all I can think off ATM.
