Hotkeys not working when launchbox opens with retroarch

Im getting pretty frustrated. Ive always been able to open launchbox, launch a rom that uses retroarch as the emu, and either hit spacebar for fast forward or double tap esc to exit. The other night, it functioned as i described, and the next day, it wont. Ive checked out all of the hotkey settings and everything looks correct. ive only been using launchbox for about 4 or 5 months so im not a pro. I would love any help i can get!
