Using a 9 pin serial port

Hi all

I use portable appliance test software called Safety First.

This tester outputs via a DB9 to a corresponding socket on the back of my desktop.

Yes, it's an old desktop, with the original 9 pin serial port on the back.

Were they originally known as Com1 or Com2 ?

The download to file used to work, but that was a few years ago.

The machine's output can either go to Serial Port 1 or Serial Port 2.  Great!..  Is that the same as Com 1 or 2 ?

The setup page is below.

The info is entered as above and the next page says "Waiting for data"

I then press the  "Send Data" button on the tester, and the info is read by the application, to update the records.

But it doesn't do anything.  Nothing comes through.  Eventually the app aborts saying "No Records"

I was hoping I just needed to tell Dosbox to activate the ports. so I tried:

dosbox sf.exe serial1=directserial realport:com1 serial2=directserial realport:com2

Same result:  Nothing.

I can enter:

cat /dev/ttyS0 > ~/Desktop/pat.csv

and I get all results onto a file, so there's nothing wrong with the serial port.

I'm guessing I haven't put the right parameters in.

Can anyone help?
