Mame v261 / MameUI64 v248 not detecting mouse for LightGun

Hello to all, how are you all today?

I would like to request help on a matter which is puzzling me a lot, I have no idea what is going on.

Recently I decided it was time to check a more modern version of Mame as I was using 152 as portable pen to take around to play with friends :)

So I took a few things, including launchbox, but i was doing a version which was Mame v261 / MameUI64 v248 being run from a 2T EHD.

Everything ran smoothly, both directly from Mame and from MameUI, and tests with artwork also were successful, which made me pleased.

Then something really weird happened.

Immediately testing LightGun games, in this case Operation Wolf, I saw that none was detecting the mouse, although the default settings had lightgun slaved to mouse, including on controller mapping in MAMEUI, and on MAME the input device options also had the lightgun slaved to mouse, however, in the imput devices only keyboard is found. Hilariously, when I check the default key mappings both lightgun and mouse Y and X incs decs have the cursor keys by default.

Have you seen this? I tried a lot of things, including trying to find MOUSECODEs for direct cfg edits, but to no avail...

Thanks for all the help you can provide.

,After several tests and discussing with people, it was discovered that MAME has per default on mame.ini the values MOUSE : 0 and MULTIMOUSE : 0. these need to be changed to 1 and mame.ini must be copied inside INI folder and subfolders. This will mostly allow mame to pick up at least one of them and run properly. Once detected, you can shift input on lightgun to mouse inside the menu. Note MAMEUI64 still doesnt pick up. Work in progress, but possible abandonment of this frontend is a very strong possibility.
