Coleco number Key mapping

hello, just started trying launch box. I went with retroarch bluemsx for emulating coleco. I was pleased that the sgm games loaded no prob, however, i was unable to use the keyboard for entering numbers associated with the game. 

First i used a ps1 classic usb controller, i was able to use numbers 1-4 with buttons and '*#' with 'start' and 'select'

second i used a ps4 controller, i was able to use numbers 0-9 (trial and error) but i was unable to use '*#"

opinons? thoughts? suggestions are welcomed
