Weird issue with directions inside of Mame games

Hello,

I'm using Big Box with an IPAC2 setup to use Xinput using only Mame.  When I'm in the big box menu all directions work when wanting to scroll through games.  Buttons work as well.  When I select a game to play in the game buttons work and up and down work but left and right don't work.  I'm assuming it's a configuration issue but I don't know where to look.  Any help you could give this noob is much appreciated.

I figured it out.  Looks like it was a mame configuration issue.
